Would you suggest being an LPN or an RN if home health is the route you want to take?
@HospiceNurseAllie Жыл бұрын
You could do both! The main differences are that LPNs don’t do admissions, but everything else is based on what state you work in and company. I would say RN gives you more opportunities to grow, but it depends on what your goals are. ❤️

Do you just automatically know what to do for wounds? Or do you get an order from the doctor and he tells you exactly what dressings to use?
@HospiceNurseAllie2 ай бұрын
We always get an order from the provider, give them a description of what’s going on, etc. we may give suggestions because we are the ones actually seeing the wound first hand.

Great work. I'd only add: pink tape. If you need to use a coccyx dressing, and incontinence is an issue... It can save you from having to change it more than it needs. And the nursing supervisor (yo!) will appreciate it, cuz those suckers are like $13 each, and your patient (more importantly) will appreciate not having their skin ripped by too frequent changes. But.. obviously... This is only true for wounds with low drainage
@HospiceNurseAllie Жыл бұрын
I honestly have never heard of pink tape. I am definitely going to see if it is on our formulary. Usually we use a white dressing retention tape, which does okay depending on a patient's drainage and incontinence management of course.

Thanks so much for this informative video!! I'm a new grad who went straight into hospice nursing and I get some pts with very bad wounds I always have to ask for help with what to put on the wound how to dress it or even how to profile it. Also, are you hospice certified? I been looking into wanting to start studying for it.
@HospiceNurseAllie Жыл бұрын
I was the same way when I started! For some wounds the solutions aren’t that obvious. I am not certified. I have been studying for it but I’m not sure when I’ll take the exam yet.
