I’ve seen this video before without Jane’s commentary. I think of epigenetics: loosely defined as the experiences of our ancestors imprinted in our own DNA. Wounda playfully thanked Rebecca, who was involved in her care. Jumping up on the crate to look around her new surroundings. It’s as if by instinct, she turned around and gave Jane such a loving embrace, as a thank you from all of the chimpanzees, her ancestors. Later in the video, we see Jane and Rebecca observing Wounda in her new environment, an island obtained by the Dr. Jane Goodall Institute. We see Jane and Rebecca sitting observing. What a life defining moment for Jane, who’s childhood dream became a reality and now she can sit beside Rebecca and know that the woman beside her was not only inspired by her, but has the opportunity as a woman, to study and care for chimps. What a life defining moment for Jane. Wounda’s embrace whispered a gratitude of many generations. 🙏

He is not a monkey, she is a chimpanzee. In fact they’re arguably both chimpanzees - one called Jane, the other Wounda. The odd thing is they barely knew each other and the hug was a spontaneous act, as if Wounda could intuit Jane’s character and all she stands for. Or she’s seen her on the TV.
