As someone who knows Mandarin, you are killing me with how you say Wouxun. X has an English "SH" sound. Therefor xun is English is SHUN as in reject or avoid. Just say "O" for the first 3 letters. The "desense" thing.....if its the same as my uv8d, theres a vast selection of mute options. I have mine set up to duel receive but mute the "other" band when I key up on one band, and then the receive is just which ever band receives first mutes the other. I had to set it up that way because the radio is capable of full receive on both bands AT ONCE and even while keyed up on one side. That part just seems stupid on a HT where the mic is a millimeter from the speaker.

I have one of these KG-UV8H radio. The radio works pretty good regarding the tx and rx power output and the SWR is 1:1.2. The tx power is about 8 watts on VHF and about the same on UHF. The only thing I do not like about this HT, is the programming software. The software doesn't allow for any screen contrast adjustments, or at least to the level that you can see the screen outdoors. Indoors the screen is bright and easy to see. Outdoors is a totally different situation. The radio menu (manual settings) or even using the RTS programming, there is no way to adjust the contrast levels to be able to see the screen outdoors in outdoor lighting, even on cloudy days. This is the one HT that I own, where the screen can not seen outdoors, which pretty must make the use an HT somewhat useless.

Great review! I'm very new to this, so is the buzzing while you talked on the first repeater normal, or was it just because of the current circumstances? One more thing. I'm currently looking for a new handheld and yesterday I saw your review on the Wouxun KG-UV9D. Which one would you recommend, or if you have a different model in mind. I'm more interested in the prepping side of it, so good battery life and durability is very important. Also being able to tune in to the regular fm stations are a must have. That's the main problem I've had while looking for a radio, hence why I settled with a baofeng the first time. I don't really feel like I can rely on it though, hence why I'm searching for a new one.
@HamRadio23 жыл бұрын
The buzzing is just interference from the radio into the recording mic on the computer. This happens often when recording a video and keying up a radio right next to the mic. This radio or the UV9D would both be a great choice

I like Wouxun it is that there a little on the pricey side . I know most of you guys are against Baofeng but the Baofeng radios seem to be a lot more versatile. I’m not a Ham yet but the Wouxun don’t do as many frequencies. As the Baofeng do as a prepper type I try to have my gear as modular as possible. The Baofeng radios cover everything frequencies from marine,MURS, FRS , and GMRS. I know that your not supposed to use a Ham radio for those frequencies. Again as a prepper the versatility is important. Although I have my Baofeng Ham radios put away for emergency. I use my GMRS radios for GMRS. Matter of fact my favorite radio is the Wouxun KG805G. Once im get my tech . license I will have a good Wouxun for daily use

I'd be very interested to hear if you (or someone else here) tested the cross band repeater function of the Wouxun KG-UV8H! In my experience here, it works kind of, but the audio (or connection?) quality makes it worthless: The QSO partner just hears choppy sentences, staccato audio which is not fun to listen to. I tested it many times, but either this function's implementation is broken or I got a broken item. - By contrast, another HT, the CRT 4CF V2, works flawlessly. Its cross band repeater function is less comfortable to use, but at least, it does work. So I am really interested to hear from you or others if they checked the cross band repeater function and how well (badly) it worked. Please, leave a comment. It is hard to find anything about the 8H on the internet and even more so about its cross repeater function. - Many thanks.
