as for V wearing pjs or loose clothes in general, it's because he has cholinergic urticaria. The condition causes itchy hives created by a raise in body temperature. So loose fitted clothes are more comfortable and they're preventing hives to appear.

To answer Lucas question, yes, they do this live but OF COURSE with backing vocals because it is almost impossible to sing the entire thing while dancing like that but you definitely can hear them singing over the backing vocals. And if you listen closely in the dance break they mixed this song with the beginning of the song N.O which is amazing

I had to laugh when he mentioned V wearing "pajamas" as I always think of the dance practice where all the boys were wearing casual clothes and V turned up in a suit and dress boots left us all wondering where he was going after (or had been before) that he was dressed up.

In the actual live performance at the MMA, I learned from a fan cam that Jimin's chair was missing while all the members were seated at the back of the table. So while Jimin waited for the crew to slip in his chair, he had to squat and perform the choreo half the time like the rest of them. Such professionalism and he still delivered a flawless performance like nothing to it.

Their lung capacity is amazing, I have seen 2 videos of V going underwater and staying under for 1.27 minutes, they had a stopwatch showing on the screen, and the others didn’t even seem shocked, in the Run episode though they did check every now and then to see if he was still alive 😏 truely amazing artists.

Whenever you mention this performance you are calling it a concert. When you actually watch the total MMA performance, I want you to keep reminding yourself that this is an award show and BTS are not being paid a dime.

This performance of this song is something I will always give the background dancers full credit. They have to be on point, they are not just their to dance behind the group they are moving props and need to be in their spots for everything to come off perfects so full credit to the dancers for sure. This is one of my favorite performances for sure.

This is one of my all time favourites. It has so many special choreographic elements. Yes, those moving boxes with JK and J-Hope dancing on top have me worried each time but it doesn't seem to worry them. Tae's jammies are a bit of a trademark for him but all of them seem to wear the most odd collection of clothes for a dance practice such as Timberlands, several layers of tops including hoodies with the hoods up. Perhaps they're conditioning themselves for when they have to dance on stage and they get so sweaty even though they're wearing light clothing. JK wears really heavy boots sometimes. How he dances in those I'll never know.

they usually have a mix of live vocals and track, with different percentages depending on the choreo difficulty! sometimes they won't sing a word or two and you can hear the backing track. sometimes it's on purpose to show they're live (tae did it during their grammy performance lol), but since some people could still say that's manufactured, i think the most telling is when they goof on stage and one of them start to laugh during their verse and then you clearly hear they're live, and the volume of the backing 😊

Fun fact : Kpop idols also practice a lot of singing while dancing so that they can do both! Most usually do that by going onto a treadmill and singing lol BTS are good at live singing while dancing I gotta say~ Its crazy the amount of work that goes into everything

dont put BTS and kpop together. BTS is a league of their own. And dont lie. a lot kpop groups have been exposed for lipsyncing. watch any award shows and you'll see lipsyncing and with recorded fake breathing. only 5% kpop groups sing live. majority of that fake shallow industry fake their way through performances. BTS will never shortchange their fans

Somewhere on KZbin there’s a clip of them clustered around a monitor talking to (I think) the sound engineer about the correct balance for the vocal mix collectively and for each member in different sections of the backing track. I can’t remember which song but it was one of the heavier choreographies and it was probably for a show rather than a concert. So it varies song to song and person to person. I know JK tries to minimise his own backing support as much as possible, and V was determined to keep fully live for his solo Stigma (that’s hella brave!). People sometimes get a bit defensive when it comes to BTS using back tracks and ‘lipsync’, but I don’t see anything wrong with using a support track when they’re putting on a gigantic, high-energy show. They almost always stop singing if necessary rather than lipsync when they’re live, although often you’ll still catch their mouths moving at times… I think because they really would like to be singing along and can’t help it. What they’re not doing at those times is pretending to sing. Just listening to them breathe at the end of many of the dance practises shows just how difficult it would be to deliver at that level for two and a half hours even without singing a word.

The backing track is sync’d to the lights music and all stage cues. It’s needed for the performances to work. And also the help fill in where needed for singing.

the moving boxes have breaks, you can see the backup dancers engaging the breaks, but they always have 1 or 2 people there to steady them as well because yes, they will still move. but the guys do things safely always and that's why there was a choreo change. early on, they would all drop to the floor in a pushup style, but i think one of them hit their chins on the floor and so the choreo was changed to what is seen in this one so that they wouldn't get hurt.

Tae will often wear large loose clothing as he has a skin condition that is aggravated by body heat.... He has found pyjamas to fit the bill for comfort. They used to train running on treadmills while singing to get voice stability.

Im concerts, u can hear them catch their breath thru their mics, even the sound of their accesories brushing thru the mic. Example in Black Swan/Fake Love when JK/Jimin have to wear body chain and their clothes are open when the chain bounces u can hear the "clang, clink" sound thru their mics. Also, BTS is only one of a few artist who would actually sing live especially in concerts.

And for the award show they added dance break and made it even harder. 😅I know they practice 3 months for a concert. I would think an award show would be same. For me to the nighttime is the worse. Sometimes it gets so bad I itch till I bleed. I use cold packs like the hot packs ppl use in winter under my clothes on really hot days to keep myself cool during the day.

This performance is ICONIC! I can’t wait for the video of the actual show too. I’m really happy you watched the dance practice first because the lighting is soooo intense for the show that I feel like you miss out on some of the intricacies of the dance, but it’s an absolutely mind blowing performance even w that I HOPE I SEE YOU!!! I am enjoying your rock and roll tunes in the background after the video and when discussing. Pdogg producer is his own genius for them. Do you want interviews with him? Nearly all in Korean I recommend Honey TV with Hybe Big Hit talking about Butter, Dynamite. My universe he is producer there with translator for Chris Martin. Part of reason for translator is for the boys. Chris Martin to translator to Pdogg to the Members BTS who are recording. The nuance and pronunciation is critical. Pdogg has a handle on all of it. Good reasons for it. RM is participating in writing of the song. Coldplay has the music tracks done but you see a band member pop out for group recording. Documentary or commentary. Now quietly saying this production award show sponsored by heavy hitters. Unlimited or not budget.? Tourism of South Korea and on.

Agreed. I've seen people say you have to listen to all of the songs before watching MMA 2019, but I think watching it cold is best, personally, and definitely without watching this dance practice. I say that because I watched it cold - it was one of the first 5-10 things I watched from BTS - and when I say that I was 100% blown away, I mean I was probably more like 200% blown away. It didn't hurt even a little bit that I didn't know the songs, and I think knowing anything would have spoiled the impact.

V is an okay dancer when he actually makes some effort. Most of the times during live shows tho, you can see him slagging if he is not at the center. He doesnt bother completing the full choreo steps and just dances lazily.

In one of Stray Kids live the leader mentioned that they lipsync most of the time in their concerts because of the "strain" in their voice especially if they do back to back concerts. Like dude, u shouldnt call urselves singers then, just dancers 🙄 anyway, BTS sings live with a backing vocals, and also u can tell if they are lipsyncing because their lips wont move. These guys are the worst lip syngers ever

The level and volume of the backing vocals will change depending on what the performance is, but their mics are always hot. Sometimes the backing track is literally JUST the adlibs or harmonies and other times the main vocals are there as well at maybe a 15-20% volume level. There are live performances where whomever may not sing a word or phrase (to catch their breath etc...) and you can hear the line in the background, but it is WAY quieter than the live vocals. Or on solo performances, they may select certain lines or words to be done by the backing track due to a specific dance move during that line OR because the original track has an overlap of their vocals and they can obviously only sing one of them at a time.

Exactly, their more dance-heavy and chaotic performances are the ones with most backing vocals, things like FIRE, Dionysius, ON, I'm Fine, etc, are more heavily backed than, say, Dynamite or Boy with Luv. And then again, it's mostly the vocal-line that have backing vocals, since the parts where the rap line takes the mic are more subdued choreo-wise (for the one rapping).

RE: V's dancing - there's are a couple of videos where V talks about his audition experience. In one (at least), he says (paraphrased): "They said can you sing? So I sang. Can you dance? So I danced. Can you rap? So I rapped. Can you play an instrument? So I played my saxophone. Anything else? No....that's it...(with a sad expression)...lol

Glad you found the Enjoy bts more channel! They also have the mma 2019 with english subs if lucas wants to see lyrics during the video. V doesn’t mention this often so many people don’t know, but he actually has a skin condition called cholinergic urticaria which means he gets red, irritated skin when his body temperature rises, so he wears very loose, soft clothing a lot of the time. He’s also incorporated that into his fashion style too though :) I get anxious every time I see them with those rolling things! I think I’d be too scared for this choreo 😅

The choreo was even more dangerous as they had the 'death drop' in it. But it was too dangerous for their arms and hands as they went from a crouch into a stand and then falling forward with only their arms cushioning their fall. I think they only did that dance move two or three times before they changed it because it was too dangerous. They have a backing track but it is a) far quieter and b) it is mostly harmonising and ad libbing. Most of the time you can hear it when they are NOT singing to show they are singing live. They sing and dance, Kpop idols practise singing while running the treadmill, so yeah they are not getting too much out of breath.

Yes, I heard they changed it after Jungkook got hurt doing it. I can't imagine dancing and singing this hard and having to remember everything for a concert. They are Legends! Wish I could have gone to their Vegas concert. It will be awesome!!!

They don't mouth. They completely DON'T SING if the backing track is supposed to take the part because even mouthing takes energy and the reason they are using the backing track is for a part that is impossible to sing well while dancing and for their harmonies and some ad libs. They take those few seconds to get a breath while dancing so they can sing their next part well.

It's also due to technical stuff... For example, if you sing a line while spinning around, even if you can sing it on pitch, the sound would get distorted or get lost due to the air/movement.

@GIDkidDAD There is a good reason why V wears comfy loose clothes cuz he has a skin condition that worsens when he wears tight clothes or when his temperature rises and he sweats. This medical condition which I myself have a mild form of causes one to break out into very itchy rash and becomes inflamed. If u look closely during dance practices or live perforrmances u can sometimes spot him itching himself and this is why he does this.

They sing and dance live - and that is standard in Kpop. I think that BTS outstrips any other KPop band, but I always want to acknowledge the level of sheer skill and talent there are throughout the Kpop industry - for me the area where BTS are so much better is rooted in the artistic freedom they have always had. Other bands in other companies are now getting more freedom, but nothing like as much, and for me their music is a lot less interesting - but they are ALL great performers. And, yes, their ability to sing and dance energetically in live performance is mind-bending. But BTS have been doing this now for 10 years. JK used to sing while he was running during workouts so he could build his lung capacity for just this reason. Recently (In the Soop) V was learning trumpet and had a distance lesson with his teacher who said to him, can you play a note and just hold it ... so he did, and the teacher had to stop him, saying ah, well, for most people this is really hard, but practicing it will help your playing 😄! They are not singer/dancers - I think by almost any definition they must be athletes - they just compete in a different way. FYI Jin recently pointed out that due to social distancing requirements their Korean concerts are unlikely to make money - they are doing it for Korean ARMY and I am so pleased for them - they have waited so long. The US concerts will be much more what we could expect in terms of audience and atmosphere. Don't know if you will be able to go - but if you do, you will love it. There are options to view online I think, and there will be scenes shared on YT and some ARMY have already said they plan to stream ...
