When I hear Linda Perry, I can't help thinking of Toronto's singer/songwriter Amanda Marshall... girls of the 90's... power voices. My favorite 3 from her are "Let It Rain"... nice vocals, "Beautiful Goodbye"... dramatic and powerful crescendo near the end, and "If I Didn't Have You"... I just love the message of her lyrics!

Indoor roller skating was actually at it's peak in the late 70s/early 80s. Certain songs were known as "roller skating songs" because they would always be played, usually disco or even metal songs, but the biggest roller skating song of them all was actually Stairway To Heaven, which was invariably the last song of the night. Then came inline skates which made outdoor skating more practical, not to mention the disco floors being taken over by break dancing which not as many could participate in, and Indoor roller skating went into decline.

That style of dress is "Steampunk". A fusion of Victorian aesthetics and futuristic visions. It's not completely dead. I go to a local Flea Market and there are two young girls who show up often in some of the most interesting looks. Also a man in his 40 or 50"s with a Top Hat with goggles. Steampunk Festivals are still very popular. You find some amazingly creative looks at one.

Linda Perry. Had a lot of pent-up destructive anger. She shut herself off from the world for a while until Pink wanting to start a career was calling her and leaving long messages. Pink stayed with her for a while and that is when ... Get The Party Started ...was written and the beginning of Linda's 2nd life in the industry. She premiered a song Called ...Letter to God ...on "The Talk " with Sara Gilbert... She had them in tears.

I can't believe you started talking about roller blades. The one and only reason that I know and love this song is because I grew up in small town Kansas. We had 2 things to do on the weekend if you were under 18. We had a movie theater and we had a roller skating rink and the roller skating rink was open on Friday nights. I had my birthday party there and got my first pair of roller blades. I Got into and lost my first fight there, That's where I first kissed a girl and a few weeks later where I first made out with a girl. And this song more than any other that I have found Reminds me of that skating rink because they played it every time it was open. They stayed open until 1 AM on New Year's Every year. My brother knew the owner and 1 year after we left on New Year's we were driving home and my brother dropped the bomb that that was the last time the skating rink was going to be open. I had no warning whatsoever. I cried. And I am not ashamed to say it. I loved that place.

hey guys... nice reaction. good catch... this tune definitely has alanis morrisette "jagged little pill" vibes. if you like that alternative 90s sound, i highly recommend you react to mazzy star "fade into you"... has to be one of best representations of that creative time period. take care! 😎

Great Reaction Sam & Phil! I actually like What’s Up and Linda Perry also wrote Ariana Grande’s first song Put Your Hearts Up! Which sounds like What’s Up! I think Ariana doesn’t care for it anymore! I was a fan of Victorious because it was just so darn funny! 🤘🙏🏻

I love that she was kinda a weirdo... and it reflected in her vocal presence. It's a shame she preferred to be behind the scenes instead of in front of the camera, cause I think the pop scene could've used someone like her in the spotlight. But I respect her choosing to stick to writing, because that's what she was passionate about. Still, I wonder if the pop scene would look any different today if she stayed in front of the camera, instead of giving her creations to others who were more acceptably mainstream.
