My grandpa was the son of a world war 2 veteran and his older brother serviced in Vietnam. My grand father loved sgt rock because of his tag line at the end of each comic “War no more.” Sgt rock is such a good character and would love to see him adapted to the big screen.

Plus Sgt Rock will probably have a cheap budget like Clayface, so it doesn’t even need to make much to be successful. It’s pretty much a guaranteed success, and if the reviews are good, then you got yourself a small BO success with good reviews that builds your reputation, which is great.

I've wanted him on the big screen since hearing speculation about a movie staring either Bruce Willis(would have been perfect) or Arnold(not so much) back in the 80's. At the start of the video, I thought it was odd that there would be a movie released between Superman and Supergirl. I expected the slate to go: Superman, Supergirl, Lanterns, Peacemaker S2, and so on. But now I think it makes sense with the Big Character/Small Character method. It seems like projects such as Sgt. Rock, Clayface, and Teen Titans, are all going into production a lot sooner than we thought. I'm not upset by it, but I don't really like how much the DCU slate has changed since James Gunn announced it. I understand that it's been two years since the announcement, but I didn't expect this much to change.

I get that it's going to be a smaller budget film and probably most of the CGI is going to be explosions and GI robot. However the only thing that doesn't seem realistic to me is it coming out in May. Unless it's filming by this May. I know They can turn a movie around in a year as we essentially plan to see with both Thunderbolts and fantastic four and Superman. I just don't see them doing it all in less than 11 months. Now if you were to tell me that they were going to do Clayface which they seem closer on. Sure. But they seem pretty adamant on bringing that around Halloween time and rightfully so for marketing purposes.

Lower budget War films tend to be easier and quicker to film. Heck even big budget ones these days are quick and easy especially if you have script locked in place. It took less than six months to film Superman what takes longer is post production especially if it's FX heavy

Not the director, but the question is still going to be what sort of a draw Daniel Craig has. As you said on Twitter, he doesn't have much of a box office draw outside of the Bond films. And are people watching the Knives Out films solely for Craig, or for the story itself? I don't know since I haven't seen those films yet, but no matter how he's introduced, the film would need a hook. People like Craig, but I don't see his name putting people in seats the way that, say, Tom Cruise would.

Only if the writing is great. They didn't seem to care that Robert Pattinson was Batman in The Batman. All they cared about was that they got a Batman movie. So if you're insisting they care about Henry Cavill as Superman, I honestly feel their feelings on his take are mixed. The same goes for Ben Affleck as Batman. Those were great casting choices, but the problem was the writing and the general audience didn't like that. Casting can be a key, yes. But so is the writing. Great casting with great writing is what helps a movie sell.

I don't mind it being the second film after 'Superman' and I like you're proposed strategy. There have been attempts to try and get a Sgt. Rock movie off the ground since Arnold Schwartzeneggar was in his prime. And using Sgt. Rock would help flush out the history of the DCU's world in one of it's most pivotal points, World War II. The time when superhero comics were likely at their biggest because they helped unite us against a terrifying real world evil. And it can still even feature fantastical elements like G.I. Robot but even more. Bruce Campbell of 'Evil Dead' fame recently even wrote a comic featuring Sgt. Rock fighting Nazi zombies. It's also an opportunity to help reference other things for world building. Other war heroes like the Blackhawks and the Losers. Or even mentions of the Justice Society defending the home front while so many of America's fighting men are overseas.

If reports are correct, Sgt Rock will start filming this fall and a May 2026 release date does not give it much time for post-production. Gunn is all about giving films plenty of time for post-production. Also the May release date is too close to the release of Supergirl. I see Sgt Rock releasing in 2027 and another WBD project jumps in for May 2026.

I’m really not a fan of the “no one asked for this” line of reasoning. The Guardians trilogy and a smallish board of other beloved films would never have been made if this was the prevailing attitude. I like the Sergeant direction because it will display to the general audience that DC will have genuine diversity in terms of story and tone. Having it to be straight after a Superman will sell that contrast extremely well. (assuming that they’re good/successful) Edit: my opinion did not change from the beginning to the end of the video.

When I think of Sgt. Rock, I think of Arnold Schwarzenegger and his team in Predator. A bad A team. Why? Because that's the comic book that Hawkins was reading in the chopper in the movie. Hawkins is played by Shane Black. He is a well-known director as well. I know Predator isn't a World War II piece, but it's just the high testosterone in Predator that I envision Sgt. Rock would be like. I like Daniel Craig. I have high expectations for a Sgt. Rock film. Meaning high testosterone action. Thanks to Predator. I never grew up reading reading Sgt. Rock, so it is strange for a DC reboot to be pushing 🫸 a lot of the obscure characters of DC. Suicide Squad, Creature Commandos, and now Sgt. Rock. It's like Gunn wants to avoid the big, heavy popular hitters of DC that fans want. If a character is obscure enough, there's little criticism on it. Even Gunn's Superman is an egg salad of lesser known justice leaguers. This appears to be Gunn's M.O. Guardians of the Galaxy wasn't a mainstream comic book in Marvel either. Still, what translates into success in one arena doesn't mean it will in another. As similar as DC and Marvel are, they are also very different. Can we get a big 3 movie? Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. It was so epic to watch them together for the first time fighting Doomsday in BvS. I'm afraid that day will never come again. -OG

The idea of this type of movie as #2 doesn’t disturb me whatsoever I just wish it weren’t so long after Superman. I’m figuring that by December we’re going to be seriously itching for a second movie. Peacemaker is only going to get us so far. I do like the idea of a WW2 film to help develop this universe although watching a few videos on how it possibly will is next on my list. I just don’t know much about Sargent Rock as it pertains to this type of universe. Anyway, as I type this I don’t know when SuperGirl is scheduled but if it’s soon(like September 2026) I’m cool. They can’t bombard us I know that that would ruin everything but don’t drag this out to the point where we’re squeezing DC projects into the MCU as the MCU is loaded(not so sure that’s a good thing either but it is loaded which is weird as I thought the new MCU initiative was to do much less and focus on quality), lol sorry for the rant.

How about we #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. Finish the JUSTICE LEAGUE trilogy and wait 15-20 years (like STAR WARS) and do a sequel 10 year story with TEEN TITANS trilogy. And then do the in another 15-20 years, do a 10 year story with LEGION OF SUPERHEROES in the 22nd century.
