wasn't this the absolute tragic tourney from byron, which he explained in detail how devastating it was? giving up r1 to go to this tourney with new mates and how unlucky the situation with cdews team 😢😓 rest in paradise man, nobody deserved the title blizzcon champ more. 😩

Broooo that was heartbreaking. I urge people to watch Reckful's version of it but so many things had to go horribly wrong for him to end up in that situation. He literally cried on stream just recounting it after he was so excited to tell the story to begin with. So basically, he had the highest rated team with Benniez and Chrysalid. Blizz did a rating squish mid season which made it nearly impossible to find anyone to queue into so he couldnt practice. Didnt matter tho, they played the qualifier on the tournament realm and got top 8 which qualified them for NA regionals only losing to EG (cdew, talbadar and azael). Despite qualifying, his teammates were so socially awkward that they did not want to play at a live event, so he left his team and joined the 2nd highest rated team playing the same comp replacing Neilyo, a good friend of his at the time. So he got that team to rank 1 while they were practicing but couldnt get the Ruthless title himself because of that antiquated antiboosting "must play 30% of games" rule they had at the time. So they went to regionals and all they needed to do was get top 2 to qualify for Blizzcon and they'd get so much more time to practice together because we're talking less than 2 weeks of playing together here from qualifiers to lan event. At regionals, they dropped to the lower bracket against Cdew's team, which was the only team that could beat them at the time. Then Cdew's team faced Snutz, Pookz, and Toez' team in the upper bracket AND LOST SOMEHOW, dropping down to the lower bracket and eliminating Reckful's team Complexity. Cdew, Talb, and Azael then went on to beat Snutz' team, the one they lost to earlier, in back to back series going 6-0. If they had won the first time, Reckful would have probably made it out of lower bracket and finished top 2 to make it to Blizzcon. Thats some history for ya.

it could be nostalgia. I think it also has to do with back in the day the scene was just coming up, and the future was bright. Fast forward 15+ years and you know what the reality is. That it was never going to be bright because every org was only out for profit, and when the prospect of money dried up they abandoned it. Now esports are a shell of what they were, except in Korea. Nobody really cares anymore because everyone knows it leads nowhere.

it only is good in korea because there was money to be made there. their culture values games more and thus more money to be made. if the korean esports didnt make money, it wouldnt be so popular there. and vice versa. because its popular it makes money

I have this feeling with Football.. I know we just have had a great era with Messi and C7 when they were on Spain... but I'm talking the era before that... The era with Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Xavi, Iniesta, Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Beckham etc etc. There was something different back then. Maybe it's just nostalgia.

This was a weird era actually for me. For me wrath was the peak. This was an odd expansion with a lot of the big teams separating. Talbadar is definitely a top player but I hated shadowplay even if it was really good. I was a fan of woundman. Seeing Reckful, Snutz, Sodah, and Venruki not on the same team also doesn't feel right.

why it was more fun/exciting is because the game is now so scripted. everything plays around "goes" and shatter/colossal smash windows. the game being entirely about cooldowns and trading them properly has ruined wow by making it less skillful and more more boring. also healers werent as grossly overtuned as they have been the past few expacs.

4:22 losing because you get CS’d once sounds like horrible gameplay. Sorry i don’t have 10 hours a day to play a class perfectly and learn to juke 100 time before i can get a spell off. Also notice how all of these tournaments are almost exclusively double caster or RogueX… because melee were completely out classed in every way until MoP. the nostalgia is nice but it was inarguably a worse game for the majority of people. Theres a reason the WoW twitch section viewership is down a ton since cata classic release, Most people either dont care for that era or think its just a bad game.

I agree, but I should at least put that team on the backfoot. Things should matter. Grinding away at each other until dampening reaches critical levels which makes damage and cc finally matter is not fun either. Imo, classes have waaaay to "complete" toolkits these days. Everyone has a bunch of different cc. Everyone has burst cooldowns. Everyone has big defensives. Healers cant die 1v1 and never ooms. Most classes have seemingly unlimited mobility. Every class has an answer to almost every situation. makes everything kinda bland imo
