They are multi million album selling artists, how in the blue blazes can you even say that with a straight face. We were surrounded by hundreds, if not thousands, of gorgeous/beautiful/thought provoking songs by hundreds of equally or more talented musicans. Their songs were a staple on any station that played this genre of music. I am not saying they are anything short of amazing and to anyone who has nit pigeon holed themselves into a certain genre or artist agree with us...

Took me years to realize how much they deeply loved each other, and after my dad passed if this song came on my mom would cry buckets. So I would dance with her, and I could feel my father as she danced with me. Then after I was married my wife and I did the same to this song.

For me, this is simply one of the most beautiful and haunting songs ever recorded. The obvious meaning is that this is a song about that moment in the exhausted afterglow "Making love with you has left me peaceful, warm and tired..." However the song takes on a whole new meaning, forever, if you ever hear it played in connection with a funeral. "Sleep, silent angel..."

The Hollies really were 2 different groups in sounds from 60's and then the 70's.. I love them both.. Allan Clarke's lead vocals very recognizable. You've done the 70's so far, why not go for the 60's next? , some more pop & upbeat tunes as others have mentioned.. Look Through Any Window, Bus Stop, Stop Stop Stop, On A Carousel, Carrie Anne, even some psychedelic, Dear Eloise.. nice reaction ..

@@alamc200 You are right it was recorded in 1969 and released here in America in December of that year. However, it is considered a 70s song because it made the Top 100 best song chart list end of year in 1970. it barely touched 1969 here. But the real point was it was a different sound , The Hollies without Graham Nash.. Splitting hairs...lol

Yes, you have to do "Bus Stop", at least. Represent those Graham Nash days! (This is from 1974. It's so long after Nash left the group that Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young had broken up, already. [Although they would periodically reunite, in various combinations.])

The unusual chord progression in this song was later used by Radiohead in their song Creep (1992). Eventually that lead, after a legal battle, to Hammond and Hazlewood being recognized as co-writers of the Radiohead song.

@tvgator1
@tvgator1 2 жыл бұрын
@@BillGraper Graham Nash was a dominant singer during those 60s pop hits. Clarke was a founder with him and definitely sang some good leads but Graham was the engine during those mid 60s songs. Clarke's pop prominence (in the US at least) didn't really occur until after Nash left in '68 (and join David Crosby, and Stephen Stills). That's when HE ANIT HEAVY and LONG COOL WOMAN, etc etc followed. By then he was their main voice and only lead singer. Funny, that Nash left because he felt the group was far too pop sounding, but some those Clarke songs that followed his departure were pretty deep.

I really like what you guys do. So many times we are soaked in today's culture that we miss all the root influences that make the foundation of today's music. There were such huge changes in music in the fifties and sixties that nothing we hear today would exist without them. It's been decades since I heard "The Air That I Breath" and suddenly I"m reminded how much I loved that band and that song. Keep sifting through the soil that was laid down by the Hollies, The Birds, The Doors......all those forgotten bands that deserve remembrance. This reminds me of my discovery of the Boogie Woogie days of my parents in the thirties and the war years. Yes, the roots of Rock and Roll were back there.

This is the most beautiful song by The Hollies, so thank you for this reaction! Since I am one of "The People" I would like to suggest you one day react to "Hi De Ho" by Blood Sweat and Tears, '"Guitar Man" by Bread and a cover of Adele's "Hello" by Walk Off The Earth featuring Myles and Isaak! I enjoy everything you two do on your channels and wish you both much success with both!!

"Bus Stop" and "Look Through Any Window" are two great Hollies songs that were written by Graham Gouldman who went on to form 10cc. You really must do some 10cc songs - not just "I'm Not in Love" but perhaps "Art for Art's Sake" or Wall Street Shuffle". Graham Gouldman is such a prolific song writer who has a huge catalogue of hits.

The horns are very reminiscent of a George Martin Beatles arrangement. The beginning verse also has a very Beatles sound.

The entire Distant Light album (which includes "Long Cool Woman ...") is fantastic, beginning to end. There aren't a lot of hits that people would recognize so probably not great for a reaction video, but I strongly recommend that y'all give it a listen. Also, the Hollies covered several years and styles. If you do some of their early stuff like "Bus Stop" you might be surprised.

The Hollies and the Beatles recorded much of their music in adjacent studios at the same time. EMI-I and EMI-II(later called Abbey Road). They shared quite a bit of musical experience and often listened in to each other’s sessions.
