Had a blast watching your + chats reaction to my death. 100% correct about the potion - my brain went into full caveman mode and I've never played a mage before. Sheep and hearth would definitely have saved me, and my brain was on “reset spot” instead since the ledge is a reset. I also could have re-poly’d and fought. My mana was going up dramatically. Definitely a preventable death from many angles. I can only claim being a dumbo but I had a blast. My wife was whispering in my ear that I was going to die the entire time. Oh well. Hindsight is 20/20. I’m doing an arcane only mage now who is already higher level.

Not popping potion wasn't why you failed though.. You shouldn't fireblast a nova without casting on it, even though you dont have shatter at low lvls you dont want to break nova on a fireblast and then have the mob hitting you in melee while you try and cast... Fireblast also costs a lot of mana so when your low on mana but high on hp you dont really want to use it. Same with Cone of cold. Use rank 1 nova too since max rank damage is barely any higher. Even at level 60 most of the good players only going to use rank 1 nova aside from aoe farming where the damage helps

That ZG wipe was 100% the owl pet that killed everyone. The reason the tank puts the boss in a corner is because the lightning won't jump if there isn't anymore in range of the tank (who it targets)

It almost makes me cry with joy seeing random people help one another. I would NEVER see this happen on softcore. But throw the one-life rule into the mix and it's so much more common. I got caught in a cave respawn the other day and would have certainly died, but this random nearby mage: novas all my mobs, slows others as we run out, and tries to trade me a pot on the fly. I LOVE HARDCORE 😭

11:25 AYO HOL UP.... WHAT?! i've NEVER seen this boss do this before and i've done RFK hundreds of times throughout the past 20 years!! What the actual... **(checks wowpedia)** So apparently this boss has an ability called "Left For Dead" which "inflicts 200 damage to an enemy and forces it to feign death for up to 5 min" (or when you right click the buff/debuff to cancel it).. ayo ayo ayo so hol up.... either the ability was reflected (somehow) or the tooltip of the ability is explained poorly (or downright wrongly). so, in case this ability was NOT somehow reflected back onto the boss, what actually happened (and thus how the ability ACTUALLY works) is that the boss inflicts 200 damage to an enemy and then _he himself_ feigns death for up to 5 minutes. bruh 20 years and this hidden boss mechanic has eluded me all those years... i need to go lye down.

Immediate added note to my hardcore note sheet: don't stand next to a hole in the ground or cliff, wtf didn't I write that down the last 3 times i saw it. And the other reason that I won't play healer: you have to predict where tf people are going to scoot off to. I'm feeling chatty today: warrior at 5:40, once you deliberately take aggro, dealing with aggro is your problem, you could always just help out another person without taking aggro (if you know how to do that).

I've been playing hardcore and I'm surprised how little I see swiftness potions in hotbars/guides. They are on the same cooldown as health pots but they are far more effective for getting away. Obviously we also have target dummies at 17 but you use a swiftness potion at level 1. I can only speak for a warrior perspective but the health pots recover like a third of your health, at best.

well you can still be dazed through swiftness pot, so healthpot is safer depending on the situation. the only scenario where swiftness is better is when you got too many mobs to handle and HAVE to make a run for it. those situations are obviously rarer than situations where you've just bitten off a bit more than you can chew (like 2-3 mobs at a time) and need a heal.

2:30 The reason is that if your feign death succeeds, you will immediately lose aggro. And if it fails, you have to keep moving to survive. The only case where moving interferes with feign death is a) if you continue moving while casting feign death (it sort of cancels out), b) if you are located close to the mob's reset spot, and reaggro him immediately. But feigning death, stopping for half a second and then moving again maximizes your chance of survival in a lot of situations, as far as I can tell.

Haven't played wow since classic vanilla, and I know it's a terrible idea, but there is a not so small part of me that wants to play classic hardcore.

in my experience playing hardcore so far, the situations you see in these clips are not the norm. these are the big oof moments, worst mistakes and avoidable blunders. my shaman is lvl 52 now, and i've had a total of 3 close calls, which i escaped from due to playing with smart people who know how to play the game. twice my life has been saved by rogues who CC'd (blind/gouge) a mob that was about to get a killing blow on me and once i escaped death thanks to my own wits. these close calls are very rare, and usually only happen because i deliberately do something risky. curiously, both the times i was saved by a rogue's CC was in the ogre cave in STV. that place just hates my guts for some reason. the one time i saved myself was when i was killing Steelsnap (hyena in thousand needles). friend warned me that steelsnap is tougher than he looks, and i figured i could take him anyway (in other words i got cocky but i was prepared and had a plan of escape). it took an earthbind totem (aoe slow), a healing potion and a slumber sand (20 second sleep item from low level quest) to escape with my life intact... granted the game's RNG fucked me a bit as well, since Steelsnap conveniently parried, dodged and missed 3 of my killing blows before going down, causing my planned escape to be delayed just long enough for my health to go critical and for a straggling 'bonus' mob to aggro on me as i was running away. after killing steelsnap i looted the q item, cast a stoneclaw totem to get rid of the aggro from the 2 "guard" hyenas that follow him, followed by an earthbind totem and ran off - this is where i should have been home free, but the "bonus mob" - a mountain lion - spotted me and gave chase, which forced me to slumber sand it as it resisted the slow-tick from the aforementioned earthbind totem. the potion was used to prolong my survival as i was missing the killing blow on the q mob 3 times in a row.
