Sally G was written by Paul and Linda, and released on the B-side to " Junior's Farm" on 1974. Inspired by a visit to Nashville, this song was Paul's first and only song on the Country charts. Paul and Wings seamlessly slid into the Country genre, with this catchy McCartney melody. The opening track with the steel guitar and fiddle, set up the Country sound, made addictive with the quintessential McCartney elements. Just a great tune. Great reaction Harri.❤ Great memory Jason. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦

I had this single many years ago. It was on the B-side of Junior's Farm. Paul has a few countey-flavored songs in his catalog. He has written some of the catchiest songs of all time, regardless of genre.

Yeah I had the single too! Great songs on both sides. I was about 13 or 14 at the time. Paul has so many great songs that came after The Beatles - I don’t think people realize it - Here Today, Calico Skies, Warm and Beautiful, Some Days, So Bad, Wanderlust, Little Willow, to name just a fraction of them!

He’s such a genius. Sir Paul can write and perform a masterpiece in any genre and knock it out of the park with melody, lyrics, vocals and just the right blend of instruments. That’s why he’s the best. Great choice and commentary! Thanks Harri and Jason 🌸💐✌️

The Beatles also did country music too, such as their version of Act Naturally. It's not a surprise that Paul McCartney would do something like this. I know this song and it's great. Country music is great, and I like it. I saw Paul McCartney live in 2012. Thanks for sharing this song reaction request. Cheers, Harri! ✌️

Great tune, Paul and Wings spent time in Nashville in 74 and this song is influenced by that extended stay by the band in the country outside of Nashville.

In this era, country was going mainstream. Every artist worth his or her salt was releasing country songs. Cointry dongs dtsrted appearing on billboard's top 100 pop chart, dpanning a major ctosdover trend. I remember this one, Pointer Sisters even releasing a little country song of their own, Fairytale. ONJ did a lot of country, too.

In the U.S., this song was the B-side to the rocker "Junior's Farm," one of my all-time favorite McCartney tunes. Please react to Junior's Farm sometime, I'm sure you'll love it. "Sally G" is a great tune as well, and indeed was recorded in Nashville.

One of the fiddle players on this was Vassar Clements, maybe best known for playing with Flatt and Scruggs on the great The Ballad of Jed Clampett.

@@bobcorbin3294 I'm sure anyone with a little bit more knowledge than me would know Vassar for more than the Beverly Hillbillies' Theme song. But that's a truly great credit, if you ask me. I see on Wiki, he played with Bill Monroe, John Hartford, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the Grateful Dead and Jimmy Buffet, among others. I bet he had some stories!

I had exactly the same feeling as you did upon listening to "Sally G" for the first time, Harri (in your channel): surely this song has been covered multiple times by Country artists! Alas, as far as I could determine by surfing the internet, it hasn't. 🤔

Harri, now that you've discovered one of Wings lost hits, you should listen to the other one called "Juniors Farm". In America, these 2 songs were released together (one on each side of the record). They both got played a lot so it's hard to say which one was really the hit, but the record went all the way to number 3 on the charts (only to 16 in the UK). They were definitely hits, but I call them lost because you never hear them anymore and they usually don't show up on any Wings Greatest Hits collections. They're both great songs though. I think you will really enjoy "Juniors Farm."
@aBeatleFan4everАй бұрын
@jvsmith7888 - "Junior's Farm" peaked at #3 on the U.S. Billboard pop chart... and "Sally G" peaked at #17 on that pop chart. The difference in position for the two sides on a single is primarily based on air play and requests.

Speaking as a Canadian, Junior's Farm was much bigger here. I barely remember this one at all.
