7:30 I'm sure you figured it out by now, but they aren't really "battlegrounds" exactly. They are something WoW just doesn't have, a constant ever-shifting three-sided war where each individual camp and keep on the map is something you can potentially fight over. World vs World is a concept coming from Dark Age of Camelot, it was carried into Warhammer Online which was made by the same company as DAoC and eventually the concept came to Guild Wars 2 and Elder Scrolls Online. There is however PvP that is more like battlegrounds. Small, instanced objective based maps that you can get through quickly.

To the point at the end. The big reason for this is because "endgame" hasn't really changed too much in GW2. In WoW every patch, let alone every expansion means all the old content becomes useless for progressing your character. But in GW2 it's all the same level, and for the most part gear remains the same no matter what content you're doing. I know for some WoW players they'll hate that, and might wonder what the point is. To this I would say... what's the point of grinding out your gear in WoW, only for it to be obsolete in 3 months? Also, I hope you'll consider playing into Janthir Wilds itself a bit deeper to unlock the housing and make a video on that! Truly you've barely scratched the surface of the game. Elite Specializations, the mounts (oh boy the mounts!) and all the various Mastery tracks to unlock and invest into (which is an account wide thing!).

@@MrVorech See, yeah. For someone very competitive minded who only cares about raids and hard dungeons. Your options are a bit more limited. Fractals definitely require some effort, raids can indeed be challenging. But at the end of the day GW2 is a game that fits what the majority of the WoW player base is and/or wants. More casual content that can be done without a strict structure. On the flip side, GW2 PvP blows WoWs out of the water.

The hardest thing for WoW players to learn in GW2 is " Don't level up" If you focus on leveling, you'll regret it. And EVERYthing gives XP. pick flowers? XP. revive an NPC? XP. Crafting? XP. Walking around the world doing random stuff? XP. Another piece of advice. Every zone has a vendor with weapons and armor at the zone's level. If you have out leveled the zone, buy the white armor. You will still be slightly OP, but the content will be fun. Even downscaled, your high end armor will completely OP the zone.

a short version Personally I think GW2's biggest flaw is its lack of guidance and tutorial. How to fix would require an overhaul of core content. rant: When you start the game the core gameplay is so easy you don't have to learn the mechanics around the game. This leads in to problems when you enter Expansions, PvP, WvW and half of end game content at max level. Also at any point at the game there is no other guidance than "Do the Story" and that is all which is problem. Here are the ways I would fix the problem: 1. Add a new button on tope left corner called "Help&Guidance" when clicked opens up ingame Wiki which is shorted by content you can do. WvW / PvP / PvE /Open World 2. Add a new tutorial after the starting Story which explains the mechanics. 3. Add a new Guidance pop up when you reach max level explaining what you can do. 4. Add "Quick Build" option for content you choose to take part in. To explain: 1. The button Help&Guide basically explains new players what you can do. If you click PvE you are shown Raids/Strikes/Fractals/Dungeons and if you click Open World you are shown Jumping Puzzles/Achievements/Story/Masteries/Crafting/Trading Post/Atls/Gold/Gems&Cosmetics/Racing/Timetrials/Diving ... Under each section you find relative information about the subject. Jumping Puzzles would explain that each zone has a hidden Jumping Puzzle if not more. Some of them have restrictions like no gliding or mounts. Finishing them gives rewards chest, can be daily objective and completes an achievement. Some jumping puzzles even have Vendors after the puzzle. (Lion's Arch) 2. As level 2 you enter a new Azura labroratorio experience of "multiverse theory" where they have managed to make simulation of alternative realities which allows them to alter the reality itself in a way you can take control of your alternative versions for short moments. This can be used as the story how you can be max level with end game gear while actually being level 2! Then you are boosted to max level and given one simple but tough enemy. Of course you will do almost no damage so you get pop up explaining the importance of build with detale while the NPC is explainig it verbally. When you click "OK" the NPC will continue explaining but states here "Ok, I'm now gonna give you POWER build which should allow you to handle that enemy" and so on. Then they say "Oh... something seems wrong" and you get tougher enemy which is directly linked to explaining boons. You take damage and just as you go downstate they fix it! Now they explain that if you had boons protection and regeneration you would have been just fine and with 25might, fury, alacrity and quickness you could have even killed the enemy .... Then they decided to give those boons to you from Bot that looks like a totem and shares these six boons with 30s duration. Now you finish the target. We explained importance of builds and boons. Now let's explain Conditions. An enemy appears that is immune to power damage! Which means they give you Condi Builds and ask you to fill it with Conditions. Then oh nooo a Condi immune enemy joins the fight so they swap your build to Celestial which does both power and condi damge. You notice it is bit slower to kill 😁 and then comes enemy that must be CCed until it take damage. Requiring the players to use CC. After all this they are asked to choose between three builds "Power/Condi/Celestial" and they get items that scale from level 1 to level 79 and can be equiped to any chracter. Account bound....... 3. When you finish Tutorial you get Popup tutorial that you can at any time go "builds" section and choose "open world condi/power/celestial build" which are meant to bee noob friendly builds. When you reach max level you get Popup tutorial explaining all things you can do in the game where at the top is most popular activities and lower you go less popular they become. First is PvP then WvW followed by PvE and last Open World 😁 You can "Track" one of these like Dungeons and it will give you "story like quest marker" to complete all dungeon stories. You get two locations to enter the dungeon. Open World Location and the new Lion's Arch location 😁 4. Each Profession should have one quick build for all game modes which are Leveling / PvP / WvW/ Raids&Strikes / Fractals&Dungeons / Open World & Story. For examples giving players Full Vipers Condi Mechanist using Flamethrower Turret with Spear instead of Grenade Kit requires the players to press 325 +90 to do amazing damage in Raids&Strikes while Fractals/Dungeons could have Full Berserker Power Mechanist using Rocket Turret with Hammer instead of Grenade Kit requires the player to press 52 +0 to do great damage.

I wish they ban that level boost for new players already. This isn't a game where "the fun starts when you reach max lvl". @kaelinvictus6039Ай бұрын
ANet cannot remove the level boost because the pre-conceived notions of players coming from other games strongly advises them to rush to endgame. Unless that mentality changes, removing the option to boost will most likely turn people off even before they learn that early game exploration is fun in GW2.

But the other day, I got tired of my human necro, deleted it and just used the instant to change race. Anyway, the leveling is very fast and for a new player I recommend it, but in this and all mmos, the leveling makes you learn how your character works. which leads to the GW2's flaw... they don't explain anything. There is no tutorial. There is no guidance. You are required to "figure it out" and it is common knowledge that is the worst thing you can do to retain players in your game 😆 There should be two tutorials. Level 2 and level 80 both for different reasons. There also should be "Help&Guidance" like well shorted ingame wiki. Level 2 tutorial should teach players about Power, Conditions, CC, Boons and Conditions. -Have them fight against three elite enemeis. One is immunte to Condi damage, second is immunte to Power damage and third must be CCed before it takes damage. -Also introduce new totem like bot that gives you six boons for 30seconds. Regeneration, Protection, 25Might, Fury, Alacrity and Quickness. -Now spread all three types of these elite enemeis and these totems across all content in the game both Core and Expansions. Make the core gameplay bit more challenging. Level 80 tutorial should teach you about Builds and What you can do. -Builds. Gear, Weapons, Traits and Elite Specs. -What to do? PvE (Raids/Strikes/Fractals/Dungeons/DragonResponseMissions) / PvP / WvW/ Open World (Jumping Puzzles/Gold Farming/Story/Achievements/Masteries/Cosmetics/Gems/Racing/Time trials/World Bosses/Events/Crafting) But naah, instead if you want to get in to GW2 you must leave GW2 to google what you can do in GW2 and how to do it better.

@@xezzee Honestly, I think this is more of a personal preference thing. I think it's fun to learn at your own pace everything that is in the game. I rather enjoy figuring it out on my own than having the game go out of it's way to tell me what I need to do next. FFXIV is another game that gives you a lot of space to figure things out as well. In a way it will make me nostalgic for the time that I learned it for the first time. I always find myself annoyed by tutorials, even the UI ones as I would personally like to just explore it myself.

@melinnambaАй бұрын
In case you haven't noticed it yet: your weapon skills are also kinda class skills. Each class uses the same weapon in very different ways. A warrior picks up a great sword and sees, well, a great sword. A necromancer sees a meele range magical conduit. And a Mesmer sees a long range staff type weapon. And on the flip side if you hand a staff to a thief, they will inflict blunt force trauma, no magic needed. The actual profession skills however, are the skills on the left above your weapon skills. They add a class specific mechanic, that really makes each classes playstyle feel unique and elite specializations offer even more variety.

I think many have the wrong idea when thinking about GW2, thinking this is the same game from 12 years ago but as someone that played it back then, took a 5 year break then came back I can comfortably say it's night and day. Is the earlier content perfect? God no, theyve not touched dungeons in a decade and the core story is a bit pants but they've built upon a solid foundation and the content they're currently putting out is, minus a few blips here and there, brilliant and worthy of a 2024 MMO. Another is the misconception that because there's no treadmill that there's nothing to do. Sure you need to set your own personal goals but there's a ton of things to go after and if nothing is feeling right one month just go away for a bit. No sub, cheap expacs, just log in and do what you want whenever you want. Play alongside WoW if you wish, it's a game that respects your time but also rewards you for it. Just one thing to note- We had a decade long 'Dragon Saga' storyline that ended with the End of Dragons expac. Secrets of the Obscure was the start of promised yearly smaller expacs with self-contained stories but ANET seem to have changed their mind and Janthir Wilds loosely follows on from the start of the SotO story. Just bare that in mind, a few streamers jumping straight into JW had no clue who the characters were during the Alliance meeting scenes :) Glad you're enjoying GW2, it's a game I've adored for a long time.

Dude I don't understand the hype people have for GW2 pvp, it's terrible. Abilities are not responsive, there's delay in damage calculations, CC has no diminishing returns, there's no damage recap and allowing all classes to heal in some way often completely breaks builds. Also there's way too many similar condition icons to even be able to pay attention to what is on you. For me the lack of abilities and CD time left far too much downtime and lack of ability to respond to most situations, especially with knockdowns/stuns interrupting things and getting them stuck on CD. The game completely lacks the ability to effectively kite anything as a ranged class, so you just have to boon tank a lot of fights.

In the end one player that carried has carpal tunnel and for his efforts the leech got the same reward ingame. I think that is such a toxic thing that should not exists in the game, because it actually punishes you for getting really good in the game. Why bother when tapping 1 in fights and dying every 5 secs is sometimes more than enough and actually get you the same reward. It's messed up.

For fun? I enjoy being useful in the fight. Do you enjoy being a leech...? Good for you, I don't mind. Most players are active in that aspect. There is no toxicity here.

@@zorbius6397 ??? You agree with me that leeches are terrible lol. Which is exactly what I despise that being a leech is rewarded as much as being useful ingame. I am talking about the players that barely hit 5k dps while on a dps spec.

You are walking on a knifes edge with this one IMO. If you are in a formed group than your group as a whole should not allow CLEAR leeching. I emphasize clear because some people may very well be trying hard and just aren't terribly good at their class. If you go too far in this direction you end in a spot where you start being very strict on damage output and not inviting or kicking people that don't meet a likely growing damage threshold.

Its pretty funny when you complain about "long" cut scenes but it ain't really cut scenes and you get called out and humiliated so you refer to it as an "audio book" instead. 😂

No lvl 1 endgame content is bad, lvl scaling is worst thing in video games, chalenge and reward is what get people going back. Scaling is only mark of quick fix instead of time that it takes to balance stuff. Thats why i play diablo 2 not diablo 4
@The-0niАй бұрын
Gw2 actually has end game world bosses that spawn in or next to each of the starter zones. End game players will go back and fight these bosses for end game loot. If you want more endgame content for lvl1 then you gotta ask yourself, how long are you suppose to be lvl1? The scaling in GW2 is reversed so end game players still have a challenge going back to old zones and they still get end game loot for their current level.
@OscarizxcАй бұрын
Scaling in GW2 gives life to low-level maps. It incentivizes higher level players to come back and play in lower level maps, to populate and eventually to help lower level players. Yea, this system is not perfect per se but it tackles the issue of abandoned and dead zones/maps most MMOs have. Why should a high level player go back to starter maps if there is no reason to? GW2 addresses this by putting end-game objectives, collections, world boss rare drops, loot, XP, currencies, materials. Very well made but certainly far from perfect - and that's fine. Diablo 2 has a specific game loop. Diablo 4 tries to inject more social interactions but failed miserably because most encounters, when played in a party of 2 of more, punishes you. No incentive at all. Likewise, if you are speedfarming in Diablo 2, you'd probably will not bring 3 other people with you. No incentive. That's ARPG to you. GW2 is an MMO. Social interaction is key. And to prevent immense power imbalance across high and low level players in starter zones, level scaling is much needed.

@@Oscarizxc plus you missed out on that important factor of a low level character, who so happens to wander in and suddenly see 40 people all fighting a giant worm right in the middle of their low level area and they too can join in and get rewards i remember this happening to me when i first started and it was such a buzz
@cobra7282Ай бұрын
@@darkzim3872 Have a level 80 exotic item sitting in my level 20 characters inventory from doing one of these world bosses in a low level zone. It also gave some level appropriate gear as well. The only thing I can think of that they could do instead of level scaling the whole zone is to make it where players have to choose to sync to the proper level to participate in events within the zone (FFXIV does this with fates). However, that serves no other purpose than for the player to be completely OP in the zone against the regular and non event mobs.

I tried GW2, something about it just isn't good enough. The story is not interesting, characters boring and graphics are just bad looking. Maybe it's the color pallet or choices but it looks bad. It was worth trying for free, but 30$ yeah no way, the game is really not worth getting into. I think for an MMO gamer, you're much better off with WoW, ESO, FFXIV or something a bit more detailed.

People can argue about details vs stylized designs but the combat system from your recommendations sucks ass. Global cooldowns, no dodges and accidentaly interrupting your skills with movement? No thanks.

How many hours did you spend in GW2? I'm curious because the combat, the mounts, the end-game loop, is by far one of the better ones when compared to those titles you mentioned. If you only played the free version up till level 80, it's pretty dry, not going to lie. Once you start unlocking Elite Specialisations from the 1st paid expansion, the entire gameplay loop ramps up. The combat, story narrative and the pace of the game changes. This is because base vanilla GW2 has very poor story telling and tech. With the 1st expansion (Heart of Thorns), changes and improvements were made to how dialogues are being delivered. Path of Fire (2nd expansion) introduced game changing mounts that weave you into combat too. But I agree, the only downside I see in this game is the dated graphics. Apart from that, everything else is fluid and awesome. Give the expansions a try one day. 10/10 would recommend.
