At 14, she slays this song comprised of old Russian folk tales about an orphan who is being given away in marriage to the unloved. She comes to the river, border between the living and the dead, to seek blessings from her deceased mother. More poignant due to Diana's backstory. Of course she seeks distance from her birth mother, which was accomplished when her adoptive (real) mother moves the family far away, before Igor buys an apartment in Moscow for her forever family. He secured a spot at university to continue her musical studies and vocal training

100% agree with everything you said and I can't understand how anyone could attack her, she is a true phenom and should be celebrated everywhere. Besides that full rich and dark timbre she is just so damn good at everything it's unbelievable and when she decorates a song with vocalizations it sends you soaring! I pity those that can't or refuse to appreciate her.

One of my favorites by her is from the "Show Mask Go On" entitled "Oh, It's Not Yet Evening" kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZe3moShf9d_n5I. It's an over 300 year old folk song about a Cossack warrior who dreams of his death in an imminent battle. On Diana's face you see sadness, anxiety and pain of the soul of the Cossack warrior. One would swear she borrowed that soul to perform the song. I'm not sure how many people appreciate the emotional gasps she produces here that absolutely melt me.

No. The performances you have listened to are not representative of the whole. She does not have just one voice. She has many. Some of them are as far from "haunting" as can be. If you had listened to other performances instead of these, you would have been saying that her voice is _radiantly_ beautiful! Hopefully you will keep reacting to her.
