With the build finally finished I couldn't wait to take an afternoon test drive through the great untamed wilderness that is my front yard.
This was a great 3D printing project and after months of work and several kilograms of PLA+ filament my model is pretty much complete. I still plan on adding some weathering details if I can find the courage.
The model is a tribute to the Australian Camel Trophy team car driven by Glenn Jones and Ron Begg in 1986.
Some details:
Landy model 4 from www.3DSets.com (great models, weeks of printing fun)
Printed on a modified Creality Ender 3
Filaments mostly PLA+ from 3DFillies.com and eSUN
Accessories from Thingiverse.com and some home made.
Dimensions: L: 505mm W: 230mm H: 290mm
Weight (without battery): 4kg
Video shot on Nikon D5600 and 200mm lens, compiled on Filmora.

When I got to the "4kg", it was suddenly clear that this was quite a project. 4kg AUW is a lot of Land Rover. Enjoyed the show. A good looking model.

Hi Dan, great video ... I was in doubt if I would go for the buggy or the landy.. but when I see yours .. I made a mistake 😞.. did you paint or what filement makes this fantastic colour..
@Dan.Davies
@Dan.Davies 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Leon, I used paint to get the Camel Trophy colour (Vallejo yellow ochre). It took a lot of sanding to remove the 3D printing layer lines but I was pretty happy with the end result. I mostly print with black or white filament and then just use paint to get the colour I want. I think the buggy is cool also and would love to make one too.

@@Dan.Davies you did an amazing job, it's fantastic.. And yes the buggy is a beautifull design, I was I doubt.. landy or buggy.. but worried a little bit about the gearbox, and if it would be strong enough to be a good crawler. What led's are mounted ? Br Leon
@Dan.Davies
@Dan.Davies 3 жыл бұрын
@@leonvanzelst5075 Hi Leon, I think the gearbox is a weak spot, it is strong enough for my use but others have reported failures, probably depends on how strong your printing is and how hard you drive it. The buggy should be tougher in this regard. I made up my own light system from leds and resistors I had in my parts box. I used "led lens" parts I bought from ebay for the headlights. If you aren't experienced with electronics then you can buy a lighting controller for rc cars which would make it easier.

hello dan , what is the exact color you used for your landy, I find it really great and adapted to this landy, thanking you
@Dan.Davies
@Dan.Davies Жыл бұрын
Hi Pascal, it was printed in a light grey filament then sanded and spray painted with Vallejo Yellow Ochre (Premium Airbrush Color Acrylic Polyurethane 62.015). This is a fair bit of extra work compared to just printing it in a similar filament colour but, in my opinion, sanding and painting will always give a better, smother finish. For this model I wanted more detail and realism than just printing would provide. Good luck with your project.

@@Dan.Davies thank you dan for your answer, I suspected that you had painted but I was not sure, I found the esun pla+ gold which looks a lot like your color. anyway nice work

This is great! I am also working on a 3D sets Landy in Arles Blue with sanded and painted body. Did you put a clear coat on this?
@Dan.Davies
@Dan.Davies 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chancey, a clear coat is a good idea, I didn't use one. My plan was (still is) to apply some weathering like mud, dust and a bit of wear to make it look like it has been through the outback. It was a great project, good luck with yours and I hope to see your video one day.

That's a mighty nice Land Rover. Did you print it at 0.12mm?
@Dan.Davies
@Dan.Davies 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments, There were heaps of parts and I printed them in different ways. For the under structure parts I used a 0.6mm nozzle with 0.2mm layers (quicker and stronger). For the exterior visible parts I used a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.16mm layer heights. Even so I needed to sand and fill those panels quite a bit to get rid of the layer lines. Lots of work but good fun.

Hello. What is the yellow filament used here? All the yellows I get are pretty ugly -either too bright or too orange-, I couldn't find what this specific yellow is called in any of the brands.

I couldn't find the right colour either so I painted it. This also had the benefit of smoothing out the surface and making it not look plastic. A bit more effort but I think well worth it if you are trying to make it look realistic. Good luck with your project.

Awesome! What motor did you use as in T and kv?
@Dan.Davies
@Dan.Davies 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked my video, the motor was a standard Mabuchi 540 type DC motor. I think it was 27 turns not sure of the kv. It is all 3D printed gears in PLA+ so a bigger motor than this would probably be too much for it. The motor works fine for slower, crawling style driving.

Btw would it be possible to leave a link to the camel trophy 'badge' on the roof rack?
@Dan.Davies
@Dan.Davies 3 жыл бұрын
@@anhex.5747 Hi Anhe, a OneDrive link to the file is below. This is the stl file I made and printed for the roof. The door sign is 150% bigger in x and y. I used a 0.2mm layer height and paused the print on I think the second layer and changed to a black filament for the text. The link will stay active until the end of the year, good luck. 1drv.ms/u/s!AhdlbpP141NaiJpFYt_OQQSWtrvNqw?e=UKI2pf
