Hi Nick, great little engine. I own about six lionchief engines including a general and tender. They are great engines for the money. They are also the reason I’ve ordered the new cab3 system from Lionel. Wanting very much to use one remote for all of my locos. In my opinion, Individual remotes are nice but a pain when you want to run multiple engines at the same time.
@PghTrainFanatic2 жыл бұрын
I have several Lionel chief engine but this is the first general. And like you said worth the money, for under $250 bucks it’s a fun little engine you can just run the crap out of lol. The new system should be neat especially for LionChief engines. Have a nice week!

@@mistermadmachine6311 proto cast is available on MTH ps2 & ps3 engines when using the handheld DCS remote. Works similarly where you press a button and you can speak into the remote and it “broad-casts” your voice through the locomotive speaker. It’s terrible, crackling loud and horrible sound quality. What a fantastic purchase!!! I love the style of this General Locomotive and tender. Also superb whistle!! Only thing I'm a little dissapointed is the 1 chug per revolution and the little distant separation between the engine and tender. Other then that, I love it. Very nice paint as well. Looks great pulling those coaches.
@PereMarquette12232 жыл бұрын
It’s not meant to be a scale or accurate model, it’s basically a toy with a little extra. Gotta put your mind in that particular mindset.
@CornerFieldHobbyRailfan2 жыл бұрын
@@PereMarquette1223 Yes I know that. This is basically like the engines in the starter sets. They are very nice. I'm not complaining about the engine or tender, just mentioning about the 2 things I mentioned. This one is a lot better then the same style engine & tender Lionel did in the late 70's & 80's. The engine was red & black. That was an electric toy train defintely. Lionel has come a long with their trains now. Each one has realistic sounds.
@PereMarquette12232 жыл бұрын
@@CornerFieldHobbyRailfan Lionel has also rereleased those paint schemes too. My local shop has a W&A painted one that’s reminiscent of the 1950’s variant and the ones that came out in the 80’s. Flashy paint schemes were part of the game back in 1800’s railroading.
@PghTrainFanatic2 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! I agree 1 chuff per rev is the major flaw with this engine. I said it to a few other people that It’s not like it would cost Lionel more money to throw even 2 chuff per rev on this thing lol

@@PghTrainFanatic It's no big, just something I noticed when I heard the chugging. Now if this was a Legacy or Vision Line engine, yeah then that would be very upsetting.

@PghTrainFanatic2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! That’s probably my only complaint that there could have been more chuffs per rev. Heck even 2 would’ve been better than one. lol. Otherwise yeah it’s a great little steamer for the price point.

My only complaint is the one chuff per revolution. With drive wheels that big it becomes annoying. The real thing has four chuffs. Other then that it’s nice.
@rayhankazianga68172 жыл бұрын
The engine is basically a somewhat souped-up version of the starter set locomotives. Slightly better detailing + slightly better sounds but that's it. Affordability is the main attraction, not attention to detail. I would appreciate like 2 chuffs though.

Lionel needs to make more scale 4-4-0s like the brass hybrids a few years ago.
@PghTrainFanatic2 жыл бұрын
Those are nice however they’re in a completely different price bracket then this engine. The other thing I didn’t care for was the sounds come from the passenger car that’s not included so then you are forced to buy the matching passenger cars. You’re in for well over 1300 bucks at that point
@CreeperBroCMJ2 жыл бұрын
@@PghTrainFanatic I totally agree with you on the price and the sounds coming from the passenger car. I just think these O scale companies should produce older engines like the 4-4-0s. I mean N scale engines have sound in them, so I don’t really understand why an O scale can’t. I don’t need it to be a brass hybrid, I just want more representation from around the 1870s to the early 1900s.
