But living in Mexico, I understood what is like to have a really unrestricted market, with no government regulations and only driven by profit and competition: You get a cartel. And no matter how renowned, how legal the products and how elaborate the PR, it is still a cartel. A cartel that can ruin the lives of millions of people, damage the environment and purchase a country's government to operate with impunity for as long as they want. Otherwise, companies are free to do what they want, including things like what Shell did in Nigeria and what drug cartels do in my country - Not too different.

He came from a poor family, lost his dad at 9, never went to school due to war, then traded tires as a teen in Cameroon, then motorcycles and marine engines till his 40’s and made millions in West Africa, Western Europe, and east Asia (Japan and China) where he ended up meeting my mom and settling. Eventually, Nigerian government officials looted his showroom, his imported goods, then his warehouses, one by one. They asked for his company certificate to carry out investigations, he gave it, then they used it to take out millions of dollars in loans. At this point my family was ded and buried but my dad was still a pain in the arse for the state trying to sue them, so naturally they tried assasinating him, car "incidents", poison, arson to our home, blah blah blah, point being, y’all don’t realize how much of a joke Nigeria is. They keep power with iron fist, and as you can see - started a war even, to dust everyone's eyes. Sad thing - russian propaganda is the most successful and effective on this planet. They managed to zombiefy people with open access to the information and different media. People honestly believe that the west is on their way to undermine and destroy Russia. The amount of those people is closer to 80%. The others are silent, because if you open your mouth you risk everything. Even the lives of your loved ones. It’s not that simple. The reason why we’re like that today is because that’s how Europeans engineered it. They seen what we could do when we unite together and they’d rather have us in a mental state where we fighting each other like crabs in a barrel than focusing on the overall prosperity of our people. Any African leaders that try to industrialize and develop an African country gets put down. All a country from the EU or US government has to do is come up with a “dictatorship” or “terrorist” story to give them a moral excuse to send their military over to destabilize the political scene and cause chaos. Then “stabilize” it with handpicked leaders that’ll do whatever they tell them.

@@rmoore6471 Pakistan and India began building their power during the time when some African countries were still colonized. You gotta realize some of these countries have barely been free for 30 40 years and now we’re at a time where the gap in firepower is so huge it’s damn near impossible to defend ourselves. “The mental slavery” does play a part in it though it’s just a small obstacle compared to what we have to face. Look at ghadaffi for example remember what they did to him? Or Patrice lambada. So many more examples. I feel if we do decide to unite under on mass organized governed country we’d have to be allied with a superpower country that could give us military technology in exchange for natural resources. At the end of the day that’s the only reason why our people have been ravaged.

I love you and your channel and your team, the fact that you can eloquently put together videos on controversial topics is truly great and is what people need, everyone just goes about there day just accepting things for how they are when in reality nothing is truly how they seem :)

Thanks for sharing this story Jake. As a Nigerian, there are certain blood thirsty companies you should never patronize; Shell being one of them.

if i was to blame someone, I'd blame shell once and blame the corrupted government ten times. it's ridiculous how few selfish can turn life into a horror movie for millions
@laaaliiiluuu2 жыл бұрын
The thing is, if those politicians resist they will be taken care of by the CIA. Happened too many times throughout history. You either comply or die. What choice do they really have? Well, okay, maybe resign. But I guess when someone waves a few millions in front of your face most people would eventually give in.

If the government is honest and refuses, shell would just plot a coup d'etat to put a new government. They, among with other companies, kinda helped to do that to my country, Brazil, im 2016. The current bolsonazi government is in their pockets stealing our oil

you wouldnt blame US govnt?
@iwouldliketoorderanumber1b792 жыл бұрын
You missed the point, they prey on poor countries. When your poor your bound to take any deal out of desperation and that’s what these big bullies prey on to gain access to what they want. Hey think about how you can help your people with this money if you let us get the oil. Wake up and use common sense. Preying on the desperation of individuals is disgusting so I’m going to blame shell more then anything because it was disgusting to even prey on their desperation knowing they will agree.

That would be convenient for the countries and financial organizations like the IMF World Bank, and WTO who ACTUALLY facilitate this all around the world. These rich corporations don't work alone.

Don't forget, this is the same Shell that wouldn't divest from South Africa during apartheid.

I am very grateful for this story. Growing up in southeast Nigeria I first knew about the killings at 18yrs old when I bought Timaya first album " dem mama" it's sad because at that point school taught us about south Africa apartheid, racism in America, Gandi in India but not this very important thing that is still going in our backyard.

And Shell probably has better ESG score than Tesla. Just shows how hypocritical the corporate world is in the west.
