Wow! What's happening to my backyard?!! ❤️

Hi everybody! We have alot going on in our back yard right now, and we're so happy to show it to you. We've been wanting to re-do our back yard patio for awhile now and that time has finally come. We're getting an outdoor kitchen, it'll be simple, but hopefully it'll have everything we need, I chose to have a pergola kitchen because I have always liked them and because we didn't want it enclosed because it would block to much of our back view. I am so happy to be sharing this with you my friends. ❤️

I have given that idea alot of thought, we have lots of birds in our area and our trees have lots of birds so I'm thinking the fountain would be alot of birds. I love the idea though.❤

Hi~ Why not have both? I recently saw a fountain bowl with fire pit within! It looked gorgeous & so unique. The water trickled from the bowl into gravel below, then recirculated back into water bowl. The flames looked spectacular at night reflecting off the water. The company is Aquascape outside Chicago with dealers all over the USA. 🙋

Do so agree with you. As an older person with mobility issues - the lawn in my new back garden is a constant nightmare. Not large enough for a contractor to mow but too large for me. Saving up to do something like Rachel - minus the outdoor kitchen - this is England so too wet and chilly!

I believe that ivy can also wreak havoc on wooden fences and shorten the life of the fence. You may want to research it. It’s all going to be beautiful! I hope you film videos out there for us!

More Ivy info… We have a block wall on both sides of our house covered in Ivy. It’s beautiful! It has to be trimmed and maintained. You might need to hire someone to trim it periodically. It gets messy when trimmed and the leaves will be all over your crushed rock areas. We use a leaf blower weekly to keep it clean looking. Best of luck to you. Sounds beautiful!

Sounds like an oasis to me! One note on the wall of Ivy. It can get very heavy as it grows and will shorten the life of your fence. Incorporating a vine support structure right in front of the fence and walls will keep it from damaging both the wood and the block. Whatever you decide, I hope that you guys enjoy it for many years to come. 😁

We had Ivy on our back fence as well. It lifted the whole thing up! Once the Ivy destroyed the fence, it was what was holding the fence up. I have seen it lift sidewalks, patios and houses from the foundation. That is why it is banned in some states. It is very invasive. Not to mention all the rodents it attracts and live in the ivy. It looks beautiful, but can be a major headache.

Love the paver pattern on the patio. I wish I could have the exact thing. I look forward to seeing the kitchen. If it were mine I wouldn't use ivy, a lot of work to control it, no to the fire pit, again more work to manage it and little time to enjoy it anyway. The ivy and dense plantings keep your mosquito population high and will be home to snakes. I'm constantly cutting back ivy and low growth, too much work now in my mid 70s. It's a treat to see you excited about your new home. You work hard and deserve the best.

Hi Rachel. You may want to do a deep dive into the pros and cons of planting fig ivy. The tendrils can grab onto any surface and cause the grout between bricks to loosen and it is invasive. It has NO boundaries. 🌿🌱😩. My neighbor cursed the day she planted fig ivy because it does not last long and paid a fortune to have it removed. They had to scrape the walls and it is labor intensive.

Horrible idea about planting the ivy! 😮 Unless you want rats and vermin. They love ivy! And if youre cooking out there... perfect environment for them. Like you said, they don't care!(And then of course they get angry that there's no compensation or legal recourse when they have to remove the structures. Never saw a surveyor's flags or utility markings, either. I wouldn't want to be them when code enforcement shows up!)

@@ashextraordinaire An easement is pretty hard to work around, but if someone wishes to take issue with anything built on it, they are certainly within their rights to do so. I have a neighbor who completely changed the style of roof. In doing so the roof peaks are the same height as the chimney. Never were there utilities marked or a permit pulled for any work.
