You said, Alice, that EtH wanted to keep McT but that McT had to be sold to obtain Ugarte. That is not quite right: EtH did want to keep McT but he also wanted to bring back Amrabat, who had played well for Utd in their last few games and had played well at the Cup Final,, when you will recall Amrabat was selected over Casemeiro. Amrabat was not a left back, but then neither is Martinez nor indeed Ugarte. In reality, if EtH had been allowed to keep McT and bring back a cheap Amrabat - 15m - the club would have saved in the order of 35M and would have been able to start the season with Amrabat as a functioning no 6. Casemeiro could have been saved as bench cover for 6,8, and 10, or he could have agreed to move on - it is worth remembering that Casemeiro did play at 10 and 8 for RM before he was pushed to 6 and then sold. None of this resolves the discussion over EtH's tactics.,
