my wife used to work for the family of Mahmoud Diba who was the brother of the king. She first began as a nanny and than was promoted as a cook and close confidant of the wife, Layla Diba. On some occasions the queen would stay with the family and upon doing so she and my wife met through her excellent cooking. Furthermore, the queen offered my wife to come work for her, but my wife declined given her devotion to Mrs Diba. Upon the death of Mr Diba on September 1998, just three months after the purchase of our home, I was invited to attend his wake along with my wife at their home and there I met her majesty the queen. A very gracious lady and I had to bow before her because I wasn’t accustom to being in the presence of royalty like my wife was. A memory I will never forget

I was teaching English in Iran back in 1978 and was there when the revolution broke out. I was working teaching the Iranian Navy in Rasht and in a small seaside town called Bandar-e Pahlavi The Shah was trying to give an education to naval recruits when they entered service. Iran was a country of two parts; in some ways quite modern and in others very backward. Women dressed in a very Western style, mini-skirts and all. I was very struck by what a good looking race the Iranians were, the women in particular. But at the same time there was a large contingent of more conservative Iranians (mostly devout Muslims) who strongly opposed the westernization of their country. And although there was a lot of wealth, there was also a lot of poverty. The brutal secret police SAVAK were used to suppress dissent, often torturing and killing those they saw as a threat. I was once called into my employers' office and a private conversation I had had in a restaurant with some friends was relayed back to me, and I was warned about speaking about certain things openly. When I was there there was a massive earthquake in a town called Tabas, hundreds of kms away from Rasht. But we experienced the terrifying effects of the earthquake even that far away from the epicentre. My girlfriend (who was also teaching) and I could see the discontent in the people and knew that something bad was coming down the road. We gave in our notice and began changing our Iranian money for Dollars and Swiss Francs. We were finally able to end our contract just as the revolution broke out. When we got to Tehran to get a train out of the country, all hell broke loose. Buildings were on fire and people were running around the streets with firearms, the airports had closed down as had the trains, and even the main bus station wasn't operating. My girlfriend and I took cover in the main train station and a local taxi-driver, who had seen my girlfriend crying, came over and told us to follow him to his taxi. He drove us about twenty miles outside the city to a location in the middle of nowhere where a bus was waiting heading for Turkey. I offered to pay him but he refused to take any money. I bless that man to this day.

I was around 11-12 yrs old when my father as diplomat were stationed in Tehran. It was the reign of Shahansah Aryamehr, as I recalled. At young age, me and my family we would tour the city and country and I can visualize that there is NO extreme poverty or sadness or that sort of things. Everybody was happy. I talk to my Iranian friends and they praised highly of the royal family. When we were invited to international football event, where the Shah attended, people all over the stadium cheered him rigorously. That’s when I believed that the people loved the royal family. We went to the holy city of Qom and the Ayatullahs greeted us as royal guests and warm hospitality, even though they knew that we are Sunnis. About the dress code; Iranian women wearing mini skirts walk side by side with one wearing cadar/niqab. I only see harmony. 3 years after we left Iran, revolution erupted. Until today, I don’t understand what is really going on there. I will visit Iran once again, God’s willing, someday to tour this beautiful country.

I’ve been lucky to meet Iranians since 1980 when they fled to America. I guess knowing them for 40 years I may be a rare American. I really don’t think I could say anything negative about any that I have met. It was always so sad to hear them say they could never visit Iran or they would face a quick death. I can’t imagine never seeing my parents or family again. Some parents put their kids on planes after the Shah left.

She had a wonderful reputation around the town. She was always gracious and kind, and her children as well. Unfortunately , she lost 2 children to suicide, a son and a daughter. My heart goes out to her. No greater loss than this. It must haunt their relatives. I wish her well, and her family. PS: There was a bumper sticker on the lid of the commode of the master bedroom, “ Up your assatollah.” garment How fitting. There was one interesting episode. About a month after a cousin of Reza Pahlavi’s was murdered on a street in Paris. A woman with a beautiful flowing garment and very expressive perfume came to my door. One of my beautiful Afghan Hounds was sitting there . ( The name of her breeder’s kennel where she was born was Pahlavi.) I told the woman that the family had moved. I have always worried that she may have been sent to my home to see if the Pahlavi family still lived there. I had been cleaning so my clothing was not fancy, and there was my Afghan Hound in all of her glory.

It may be a story of love, but it's easy to be resilient with lots of money stashed away in the world's banks and she doesn't look as if she is wanting in clothes or jewelry at least. The fact is, this is generally true to any countries, although 90 % of civilians support a 21st century rules or laws and modern society, the other 10 % of dictatorship mindset are capable to ruin the country. It’s ironic how they got rid of people they believed made their life worse but it was when they were gone that everything went to the trash. The basically left an empty seat for the criminals. This lady doesn't need her country to survive (another thing is if with all her loses is she happy or not) but it seems that having such a progressive empress could have been beneficial for Iran. I mean English monarchy is the richest one and yet England’s stability can't even be compared with Iran. I was young when I remember she married the Shah ..about 1959….she was beautiful..(.his first two wives were beauties .but could not give him a son ).....I believe Farah had 4 children ..( two boys)

I just went to the Mosque-Madrassa of Al-Refaei this week in Cairo . The tomb of the Shah surprised me it was there with Iran flag . President Anwar Sadat of Egypt and the Shah were friends. Since his family was exiled he allowed the Shah in this beautiful 🕌 mosque

Had recognized her, the Shahbanou of Iran, window-shopping at a Bloomingdale’s in the early to mid 80’s. She then lived in Greenwich, CT. Apparently, she now resides in Great Falls, VA.

In my opinion it was a western plot to remove the Shah as Iran was getting too powerful for their comfort. They brought the Ayotollah who was being sheltered in Europe to ensure that Iran goes back by a minimum of 50 years. Pity the Iranians. They may not be prosperous but they have lots of religion thanks to the west.

Exactly true; Shah was not a US puppet like they’re trying to image. If he was , he would not have supported Egypt against Israel during 1973 war. He has his own political ambitions to take a position of Middle East superpower. This role was crafted only for Israel, US wouldn’t to allow someone else to be more powerful than Israel.

I've been near to the Shah twice: once when he opened a pipe mill in Ahwaz, and the next time when I stood near his grave in Cairo. His secret police - SAVAK - were feared in all Iran, for their immediate and brutal reaction to anything they thought was against the Shah. We had to have his foto on our wall, with his son, placed lower, to his right, and Farah, lower again, to his left. Any discussion about the Shah could put you in jail. I was a young man and enjoyed my year in Iran, but it was a nation of some people with Mercedes, and many children with no shoes. Special memory: one of our colleagues parked his car off the road, but it was hit (unoccupied) by a drunk Iranian driver. The police charged our colleague for the event, because he was a foreigner, and if he had not been visiting Iran the car would not have been there to be hit ..... Same with taxis. Ride in an overcrowded little taxi with no airco, 40C +, on a fixed route, then the driver was responsible for any accident. Call a taxi for a point-to-point ride, YOU as the passenger, were responsible for any accidents, because, you guessed, - without you the taxi would not have been there. There are many other examples of strange rules at that time - 1977.

I’m 62 and live in Australia. But the love I’ve my life is a real Persian princess. My wife’s grandmother was an illegitimate daughter of the crown Prince of Iran. The Qasars of Isfahan Iran in the late 1800s. Everyone says Australian women are good but nothing matches the beauty, manners, knowledge of her surroundings and universe. They are wonderful people. She is 55 but their soft Ayrian skin makes her look 30. I don’t believe half the stuff Americans say about the Iranian people. They have more grace and etiquette than any type of western woman

1. In 1973 I travelled through Iran and in those days Tehran was a great place, a modern western capital and the people were generally free and happy, some time after that the religious monsters took over the country and gradually destroyed it. 2. In the early eighties I travelled to Los Angeles. I took the basic "Homes of the Hollywood stars" tour. The most impressive home I saw there was the home of the Empress, sadly it had just been looted by a pro Iranian mob. It was a serious palace surrounded by beautiful gardens, so obviously she wasn't too hard up at that stage.

Shah spent all the oil capital on Iran and its people. And Iran made terrible progress from 1970 to 1979, but it was not pleasant for the West, then 15% of the people were deceived by the leftists and Islamists and brought down the Shah. Also, the leftists and Islamists were armed. And the Shah's supporters did not dare to come to the street and defend the Shah. In short, there was no revolution in Iran, Iran is occupied. You forgot to say that the US overthrew Iran’s democratic government and trained the Shah’s brutal secret police. I think the way how Iran ended up has a lot to do with US meddling making Islamic leaders the only viable opposition and helping to create the revolution. Thank you for the eye-opening and interesting history of the former empress of Iran, Farrah Pahlavi. We were living in Paris, France, in the fall of 1979 when the Iranian revolution broke out. We would walk past a very large, high fence mansion as our three children did everyday to the American School of Paris bus pickup. There were always guards with rifles all around the high fence. After we left for the U.S., we found out that is where Koemini lived before the revolution which afterwards returned to Iran.
