Fun fact: the Dilophasaurus ijtentionally was written to have a trait like spitting venom that the real animal didn't have in order to reinforce the idea that humans don't really know what they're playing with with gene splicing. In the lost world book there were two carnotaurs that could camouflage themselves like chameleons for the same reason.

Actually no, the carnos were explained to be an experiment and are literally the reason the Indom can camo. You remember cuddlefish? Ya that's Crchton's work, Universal stole that and repurposed it into "their" super experiment dino. And no, they were actually written based entirely on the info he had at the time as well as his own opinons. Crichton is 100% responsible for helping the entire world see the dino = birds not lizards concept. His books literally gave the entire field the push it needed to start making the breakthroughs that we have made today.

The nice librarian lady tried to warn my gentle elementary school mind but "It's alright, i've seen the movies!" I was very wrong. That book was absolute nightmare fuel. It also spurred me to read Andromeda strain, another amazing book by Mr. Crichton.

The later movies made it fairly obvious that the vision based movement thing for the rex was a bit of confirmation bias specific to the Jurassic Park T. rex. None of the Sorna rexes had that issue. Edit: and, honestly, even the Jurassic Park rex didn't have that issue, as in Camp Cretaceous they managed to distract her with a cardboard cutout and a walkie talkie.

It's a shame that many discount how much of a threat herbivores might have been, as there are several real life examples in today's population that showcase their aggressive territorial behaviors. A few minor examples being bison, cassowaries, rhinos, elephants, and buffalo. Far too many tourists have died or been seriously wounded believing they'd be ignored.

Not to mention that real world herbivores actively hunt as well. Deers, horses, donkeys, and cows have been known to actively hunt and eat baby birds from nests. Herbivores have also scavenged many times. The theory for that is that's how they get vitamins and minerals they can't get from plants. Herbivores aren't peaceful giants, there is no bad guy and good guy in nature, it's just trying to survive. I personally think herbivores are more dangerous then carnivores due to more death counts they have.

I remember reading a novel called Raptor Red as kid around the time of the first three Jurassic Park movies. It was about a newly discovered kind of Raptor called the Utahraptor because of where it was found (real creative, I wonder if scientists have renamed it yet). It had an interesting little side story in the beginning about its discovery with somebody shouting "You found Spielberg's raptor!" because it really was that big. The raptors of Jurassic Park did exist after all, only they were Utahraptors not Velociraptors.

The logistics would be to much of a hassle for what you get out of the dinosaurs usefulness wise. They would also be severally easy to kill for any half decent funded military force, heavy gunfire would shred them, and any high calibre weapon would tear them to piece and this is just hand held weapons never mind those mounted on vehicles. Any advantages you get from the dinosaurs superior senses is already matched or surpassed by modern tech, optics or found in the typical arsenal or equipment of militaries. There also not going to be good for morale either when your troops need to worry about there raptor comrades wanting a taste of them when hungry, or if I-rex decides Marines on the menu today. Never mind the PR disaster if used near civilians, reports of kids being eaten by dinosaurs or stomped flat by triceratops is not going to be good either.

The idea would potentially mean decreased costs, decrease in lost of men and how that affects a military force (mostly losing the war), and I think more effective in releasing them in enemy population with purpose in overwhelming. However, j.w. did address the potential in training dino to kill as directed.

@@randomvim Decreased costs really man, you need to feed, keep healthy, transport and contain the dinosaurs. Men are cheaper than these dinosaurs are, and unlike the dinos they would not just run into gunfire. Men also can be used to use other equipment or roles, while these dinosaurs are only good for hunting the enemy. Using these dinosaurs as terror weapons is not a good thing, if you use these on a civilian population they will retaliate in kind using their own weapons, like a dirty bomb, terror attack, toxic gas etc. The dinosaurs are not useful weapon systems, they are one track minded in their use or ability. They will be utterly shredded against any half decent military force. They can't carry troops, provide fire support, or be heavy armour. They are a white elephant project, waste of taxpayer mony.

1:48 You're right in that, specifically, Velociraptor was the size of a turkey. Not all raptors were that size, however. Could be that Velociraptor DNA was mixed with Utahraptor DNA, giving it the voraciousness of a Velociraptor with the bulk, size, and strength of Utahraptor.

Actually it would be close to zero. Almost all of the mutants produced would be sterile by nature because their genetics are so jacked up and even if they survived infancy would never be able to grow because they'd constantly be suffocating. Fist of all, I'm a HUGE JP/JW fan and I'm here to defend the interpretation of the raptors of the series. The "velociraptors" in the series (movies and books) were originally supposed to be deinonychus, not velociraptor. They just called them that because Crichton's editor said the name "velociraptor" sounded scarier than "deinonychus." And deinonychus was originally named velociraptor, then they discovered a new dromeosaur and decided to steal the former's name and rename it, deinonychus. Yes, actual velociraptors were the size of a chicken, but these are not supposed to be velociraptors. The raptors in JP/JW are just a bit bigger than a real life deinonychus and a bit smaller than a utahraptor, not terribly inaccurate. The fact they don't have feathers is because paleontologists didn't make that discovery until fairly recently, after the books and first few movies were made. And Crichton (who always did extensive research into the topics of his books) knew there were all kinds of new discoveries that could potentially render his dinos an obsolete interpretation, so the series covers its ass on this topic by explaining how the dino DNA was spliced with that of frogs, as well as all kinds of extensive genetic modifications. Pretty much all the dinos are inaccurate on purpose, as Dr. Wu explained in his conversation with Simon Masrani during JW, the indominus was an extreme version of that. He said they made them bigger and scarier, more like a child's vision of dinosaurs, not the actual thing; that if they adhered to the actual fossil record, the animals would look much different. That's not a direct quote, just me paraphrasing. He also said at some point that they tried to give them feathers, but it didn't take. I just get tired of people who think they know some dino facts screaming at the version in an objectively good series.

@Brazillian Rhapsody Deinonychus was roughly 3.4m long and 100kg, Utahraptor was roughly 7m long and 450-500kg. The canon size of the JP/JW raptor is 3.6m long and 150kg. Though that depends on which version of raptor since JP3 raptors are taller/slimmer, JW raptors are shorter/stockier, and JP and TLWJP raptors are in the middle. So yeah, a bit bigger than deino, and I admit utah is a lot bigger. Its just what was on my mind at the time and I was going by height alone and JP/JW raptors tend to stand more upright making them taller.

The reason why the velociraptors are larger in the Jurassic Park series is because the book Michael Crichton consulted when writing the original novel actually mislabeled a larger raptor species as velociraptor. I was really interested to learn that when reading the original novel.

To be fair. The indominus never actually got hit with the minigun. And was only in the proximity of the rocket blast radius as it hit the ground. Apparently trained soldiers forgot how to aim outside of the asset recovery team. Shotguns were shown to pierce its hide on more than one occasion.

From what I understand, The spinosaurus wouldn’t actually be able to best a T-Rex in combat. They weren’t as powerful and weren’t built to hunt. They were mostly fish eaters, which they excelled at because of their electro reception ability. Like a hammer head shark almost. So realistically, the T. rex would most likely win. Stronger, denser, more powerful bite, T. rex has most advantages. Not saying it wouldn’t ever be possible for a spinosaurus to win, but they weren’t really built for combat like that. Fun facts: -Tyrannosaurus Rex potentially had the single best eyesight of any creature in history, and can literally jog faster than Usain could sprint... but for multiple miles. Good luck :) -Carnotaurus might have been the fastest carnivorous dinosaur, looking more like a battering ram on legs. -Spinosaurus did NOT look like it does in the film. Think, a crocodile, with a newts tail, shorter back legs, and a sail, that lived mostly in water. -Velociraptor, and essentially every other bipedal dinosaur, could NOT point their hands downwards like in the films. This would break their wrists, so they had a more "hug me" look. -Ankylosaurus probably did not have armour plating as prominent that in the film, but was probably more bumpy and rock like. -Triceratops, due to how the skull connects to the spine, would've been almost impossible to get into a "blind spot" once it sees you. -Like Spinosaurus, it is likely Baryonyx and Suchomimus would've been heavily aquatic, but feeding more like bears hunting salmon due to having one of their claws being large sickle shaped. um, if you stumble on this and want a fact about a dinosaur in the films, i will see if i know any xD

Honestly the only thing JP got right about the spino is its size compared to the t rex considering besides one or two other carnivores the spino is considered one of the largest carnivores. The fun thing is that dinos as anti personnel weapons whould be hella expensive and they whould be filled with bullet holes in a matter of seconds in a military attack. And using Bigger dinos as tanks is also a bad idea an Abhrams tank or evan a Barret 50 call whould do the trick

Yeah that whole plot line is retarded. World War I sort of demonstrated that cavalry doesn’t match up well against machine gun emplacements. Yes, you can still have it work for you, but generally you can very easily have a horse shot out under you. And if it’s a medium sized dinosaur…same difference. You’d get better results with drone swarms where they have pistol/pdw caliber weapons and a small explosive charge when they run out to dive at targets and air burst or kamikaze.

You would be fine. They were animals and would mostly ignore people, especially the larger ones. They would run for trees and escape, to mate and search for any others of their species. They would hunt for a territory to claim. They would get as far from the facility as possible out of fear and instinct. Only a handful would be hostile enough to stick around and hunt humans. And these dinosaurs would likely be very unintelligent and quite simple to outsmart and frighten. They would also die to lysine deficiency if they couldn’t find a source in time.

I would argue that some of the dinos from the books should be considered, as some of the older games do make reference to some of the book-exclusive dinos (like invisible Carnotaurus). If you were to combine the books with the existing list here, it would be an even more unfair situation just because of the Site B dinos.

“Without even flinching” *gets blown off its feet* Also, from what I saw, the “military grade weapons” used were firing 5.56 mm cartridges which you can’t use for large game irl. Let alone LARGE game. Come on... given I really don’t think even a black tipped .50 BMG would be able to penetrate the skull of some of the bigger carnivores. We definitely have the arsenal to completely obliterate every living creature in this series. Even our small arms would be able to kill the majority of the creatures in this series.

The feather and size thing was already covered in universe because the scientists bitched about how the company demanded they manipulate the dna to make "look like what people think when they hear dinosaurs" and even in the original (good) series, they talk about how they really arent dinosaurs, though thay was more of a philisophical thing more than anything else
