I think the commandos would be more likely to fight each other before humanity. In the final battle when Chip brings back an army of soldiers from a toy truck, he was the only Chip. He likely disposed of any other Chip Hazzards on the truck before activating the rest, so that no one could challenge his command. If more then one Chip Hazzard is awake at a time, none of them are going to want to submit to the others. Each of them are programed to see themselves as THE leader after all.

That's shown to not be the case in the Small Soldiers games, though. Each Chip Hazard treats every other Chip Hazard commando toy like an officer treats another officer. Since Chip Hazard is a Major, by that logic every other Chip Hazard is also a Major. Being of equal rank while also being in charge might come with... problems, though.

Honestly as someone who owns prop castings & replicas of the Commandos and Gorgonites. The Gorgonites are massive powerhouses. In the Book, movie, and Manga. They are waay more powerful than the Commandos. Even in the movie. 1 gorgonite like Slamfist or Punch It can destroy almost an entire Team of Commandos. They've really got size on their hands. Archer who is one of the Smaller Gorgonites is already bigger than almost every Commando. Butch & Brick are about even Size Wise. The Gorgonites definitely would be the best bet against the commandos if this happened

Just finished the video and I fully agree honestly. There's a Japanese Manga actually that basically is a Japanese version of the movie. One of the OP things about the Commandos in that movie is that they're actually too fast for bullets. The response in the manga they had to destroying the commandos was to just shoot them with machine guns. Well they were too small and too quick to get shot easily. So Bullets are basically a no go unless you're an incredible aim. Honestly if it wasn't for Alan and the Commandos destroying his dad's toy store. The Commandos could've done outrageous damage worldwide. In the pc game you mention. They actually take over the white house and USA due to the amount of them. The Gorgonite Factory gets destroyed and the Commandos take over. In Similar new AI movies we've seen. (the new Chucky & M3gan) There's only been 1 AI Smart Toy with the AI capabilities and they caused a ton of Damage on their own. An Entire Army of Commando Elite with Wifi Capabilities could conquer the planet very quickly. Not to mention we know Chip Hazard would just transfer himself to another Chip Body if he was able to. In the official Sequel book. Chip actual had activated another Chip Hazard and kept him hidden in a grill nearby in case the war went wrong. That chip then went to the Junk Yard where his commando buddies were being kept and rebuilt them from the parts around along with remaking the X-1000 chips from his own X-1000 chip. If the commandos had the advancements of today then we would 100% be screwed. Especially if all of them got activated at once. Even with the EMP sensitivity. By the time everyone would know what was going on. Itd be nearly too late. EMPs would completely destroy today's society if the government had to launch them into every big city to destroy the Commando Threat.

Small Soldiers is a childhood favorite of mine. I remember having several of the figures and always enjoyed the movie. That said...holy fuck I didn't realize just how dangerous the Commando Elites were 0_o I knew about the R-rate origins of the movie, but having their capabilities outlined like this combined with our much more advanced tech of the modern day, really puts into light just how screwed we'd be. About the only thing I can think of to combat them would be changing programming and producing nicer Commandos, but by then it might be too late. Thankfully the X-1000 doesn't exist so I don't need to worry about being taken out by my amiibo or pop figures.

Love this movie, I never really thought about just how dangerous these toys are until now. Genuinely they are pretty scary, especially since they know how to build more of themselves. I think this is one of those apocalypse scenarios where the baddies MASSIVELY benefit from the stupidity of the general public and if the toys are smart they'll take advantage of that, who's going to believe freaking toys are killing people? Can you imagine sending a video of something from this movie and having anyone actually believe it's legit? It would be so ridiculously easy for them to just go in to hiding and amass a massive army and it's not like we could just EMP the entire planet to deal with them as that'd screw us over too and as we see from the ending they could totally just learn to shield themselves once that weakness was discovered.

one thing you never pointed out is how would they move considering they dont have internal mechanisms. if a barbie doll got the chip how would their thoughts translate to movements of the "limbs" if internal mechanisms arent precent, its all plastic and joints. Love your videos tho!!!

It's skipped over in the movie but the dolls were properly modified for movement. Before the chips were stitched into their heads/wedged into their chests, they were physically ripped apart and fitted with weaker motors connected by rods and cables It's most evident on the googly-eyed doll, who's whole internal neck is exposed, but it's why the dolls are covered in gashes that are either stapled shut or melted together A pile of legs and arms can even be seen by link before he pulls a lever, blink and you'll miss it sorta thing

The thing that gets me personally is how they can perceive targets Nick nitro's skull only housed two cameras for eyes (which could be stuck in two dolls respectively) but after that, their only options then would be to use microphones for hearing and motion sensors for detecting movement, like the fancier assortment of hex bugs

You say their size would be an advantage to us but I disagree; their size would make it impossible for us to properly secure any Human Stronghold, as they'd need only the smallest of gaps to get in or out. As for inbuilt Wifi, they could utilise that to scan Local and Governmental frequencies and cell networks so that they could learn of the actions the Authorities were taking against them and possibly even sabotage those actions. For instance, say a unit of commandos in the US learn that the National Guard plans to set up a blockade on Main and 5th. Learn to imitate the voice of the most senior person in charge, they could easily change those orders and lure the NG unit into a trap and the NG unit wouldn't be able to call out for help because their frequency will be jammed

The X-1000s yes, but the ones stuck in the dolls were from appliances that were reformatted Although the simpler design of said chips may be why the dolls in the movie seemed kinda lost the whole time 😅

Just rewatched it a couple of days ago, only to discover that I love it just as much now as I did then. The Commandos are a really scary bunch that I would do anything to avoid if this was real..but I love them as characters all the same.I will never understand why this was not a blockbuster.

I have to say the strategy game they made for this was actually fun too! This is one of the few things I'd want redone or continued today. With today's CGI it can be epic! Make it as big as Skynet where these guys took over the world and beat us by sheer amount compared to their size. I don't know it would be fun if they did something.

I have to say, thank you for recognizing the fact that we were lucky that they were only dealing with a single set of commandos in the movie. We were one horny teenager away from a regiment of the little psychos getting activated on Christmas morning I always felt like the movie kinda nerfed the commandos individual abilities/smarts once theres dozens of them at the end of the movie. Somehow more of them becomes less dangerous than the handful earlier.

No kidding, the commandos aren't original terminator levels of indestructible, but even the physical toys made for the movie were more durable than the ones in the final battle We see early on that they have actual metal frames under their hollow plastic exteriors, so a bat to them wouldn't actually do a whole lot internally outside of dislocating a jaw, disabling a neck, or making them walk in circles

I loved this movie as a kid. When i was a kid, for my birthday my parents took me to the movie primer. Before the movie started they had people dressed up as soldier, take some people from the audience (i was one of them) and do little competitions. I don't remember what the were, i think it was arm wrestling, push ups (and the one i do remember) war cry dog bark. I won that last one, it was awesome.

I love how this movie is how as a kid I was introduced to Dennis Leary, David Cross and Jay Mohr. I think they all did a really good job, One of my favorite scenes is when they're getting chewed out by The doctor from Voyager and he's just gushing about the X1000 microchip. It's mostly an offhand nerdy two cents rather than an ackshually moment, I'm too tired to argue seriously or vehemently rn due to rl blowing up. But there's no such thing as a perfect faraday cage. It's hard to fully protect against. They could probably resist that, but not become completely immune. I point out that the USA's strategy for maintaining military communications in the event of an EMP is to have the same model plane as air force one and have it fly around during the danger time when their circuits could get fried. I forget the specifics, but they had to put communications devices in the AIR to evade an EMP. The plane they picked also had older model electronics that weren't as likely to be damaged by an EMP. This is really the only part of your theory that I feel I can dispute. However, Isaac Arthur might have a thing or two to say about your estimation of the toys in Small Soldiers and AI. He's done a lot of videos about how feasible an AI apocalypse or an alien invasion might actually be versus how the movies and media depict. So I thought I'd use the basics interpreted in the context of the movie to come up with a few smaller scenarios within the conflict you outlined. In a nutshell access to the internet could cut both ways for a potential rogue AI. The toys would have access to every movie we've ever made about artificial intelligence. So they would know its something humans would be on guard against. The fact that they exist as an artificial mind implies that you can potentially hack their senses and trap them in a virtual landscape as a test to see if they'll go rogue. So it behooves them to be cautious. They'd also have access to the connection and feedback between politics and warfare, and be able to see the great orators of wars past as long as it was a speech that was recorded. From world war 2 to the civil rights movement and beyond. When your sample size is 500k strong there's a lot of room for potential divergence, including one of the soldiers potentially trying the politics or PR game and going on a charm offensive meant to make their crusade against the Gorgonites popular or running for office to pass a law mandating more of his kind be made and that the Gorgonites be junked. There's also nothing stopping the gorgonites from fleeing to space. If they both use the same model chip, that means the gorgons can hack things too. So they could, for example, sneak into Space X and steal a shuttle. You said they're peaceful and inquisitive, fleeing to space checks both of those boxes. (Though the soldiers could potentially try to shoot the rocket down, making a great big firey mess and giving Grumpy Old Elon a few more gray hairs.) They could also potentially accelerate their minds and learn a few PhDs in a night, a trait I think Megan in the horror movie of the same name might be able to pull as well. To an entity doing this, the whole world would seem to go by extremely slowly. To them they're doing 8 years of work, so 8 years would have passed from their point of view, even if hours or days or minutes passed in the real world. Think of it as subjective time versus objective time. Any reasonably smart AI should be able to do this. It's not going to be specific to any one model. So if they cared to, the Commandoes might as well, instead learning about things like advanced weapons systems or battlefield tactics. But from what you described, I think its more in character for the Gorgonites to do this than the Commandoes. There could also be Commandoes that become attached to their humans, determined to defend them at all costs. Or they could see examples of fictional soldiers or former soldiers like Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS and decide there's more to their assigned role than just fighting. In a scenario like that, some of them might turn on their fellows in an attempt to save humanity. I don't believe doom in this scenario is cut and dry, but I also don't believe its going to be an easy fight either. There would definately be a lot of casualties and a lot would get destroyed. But I think as long as there are multiple individual AIs working together or against each other humanity would have a chance. And that's what we get. By comparison to another killer toy in the movies, Megan was a singleton, the first self aware AI. She is a lone, unopposed power, making her far more dangerous than the Commandoes because there's no other AI to balence her out. With the Commandoes and Gorgonites its very different. There are multiple individuals on each side, and plenty of room for them to spread out and develop the way humans did, with trade, alliances, enemies and territories. Once they access the internet and get to understanding that there is more than one way to contribute to fighting a war, they will probably start finding other ways to dominate each other. Fighting amongst themselves means they're spending less time and effort attacking us. So... content suggestions... I'd love to see you do more Resident Evil since I recently got into the series for the first time. But I've also wanted to see you do the Strain for years. And I suggest splitting it up by season (there are 3). I'd also love to see you do something with Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC since its not only the darker of the two scenarios, but the landscape is pretty intricate. The people there have adapted to survival very well, and there are animals there that are extinct anywhere else in the wasteland (like chickens and rabbits). But this is also an environment where you will almost never find a Deathclaw. Where the very air you breathe can make you mad. There are no sentient ghouls, just ferals. And there are giant hermit crabs and mantis shrimp in addition to massive monsterous salamanders and crabs freakin everywhere. Wolves have completely beaten out dogs. Its extremely dark so a lot of plants and fungi there glow or are fully black to try and absorb every ounce of sunlight they can get. Further, if you look closely, you can see where the fog is coming from. Spoiler, the Children of Atom may not have the ability to change or control it, but they are sitting right on top of its source. The area around their base has more rads and more radstorms than any other area of Far Harbor's map, and the water in the bottom of the dry dock is orange its so radioactive. It also sits in a tidal basin where the radiation can be carried elsewhere via contaminated ocean water. Far harbor even has visible tsunami and hurricane wreckage. Another interesting thing about Far Harbor is a potential tie back to Fallout 3's Mothership Zeta DLC. if you look out the transparent floor in one of the other parts of the ship, you can see two huge hurricane like cloud banks over the north east. One of them is high enough to be over Maine, where Far Harbor takes place. The other is in a decent enough spot to possibly be the glowing sea. That means Bathesda may have had both of these areas planned that far back even if they didn't have a story in mind. Another interesting detail is the role that both the glowing sea and the submarine dry dock's radiation may have on the local climate. There's a chance that the reason Far Harbor isn't frigid cold is because of the heat caused by radiation from the dry dock, and the same with the commonwealth and the glowing sea. I'm getting sleepy and haven't been feeling well, lots of rl stress making me sick, so I'm very happy to see you back and I'll leave you with an interesting fallout tidbit my dad picked up on and I didn't. Dad thinks there may have been a caltech grad on the team studying the boston landscape to make Fallout 4. Apparently there's a long tradition of Cal Tech students and grads PRANKING the rotunda by placing something with Caltech's name on it somewhere on top of, inside of or around it. Why Cal Tech? Well besides having a massive rival with MIT, Cal Tech's acronym it uses for short is CIT. Who founded the Institute in Fallout 4? CIT. So this prank may have been in front of fallout fans all along and only the ones from MIT or CIT would have known, that's pretty funny IMO.

Ah damn, the show escapes me but there was a mediocre daytime superhero show that had some villain-of-the-week wreaking havoc with an army of gold flying gundam-esque robot toys I want to say it had something to do with wonder woman? But either way model kits are hollow and crunchy I think we'd be safe lol
