Back when channels 11 and 5 aired morning cartoons and then off to school we went and then more cartoons while doing homework and then out to play with friends.

I remember in the fall of 1978 when WPIX TV 11 in NYC showed the Marvel Superheroes (1966) and there was this jazzy syndicated theme that played, while showing clips of the Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, etc. Does anyone have that jazzy themed intro to upload? I remember it aired at 4:30pm weekday afternoons. This commercial block must have occured afterwards because of the Tom and Jerry hour starting at 4pm which would encompassed the 4:30 pm time slot. Great Memories!

WPIX used David Shire's disco instrumental "Manhattan Skyline" in all their Marvel Superheroes commercials. Is that the jazzy theme you're thinking of? You can listen to it right here on You Tube.

I remember that Manhattan Skyline instrumental that WPIX used, but it is not the theme that I am referring to. The one I am referring to was the actual intro theme used in the beginning and ending of the Marvel Superhero show. It was also different from the original theme used in 1966.

I was 12 in 1979, and remember watching magic garden with two young ladies. Im trying to remember their names. One would play the guitar, and they would sing...what memories. Thanks for posting these videos.

Stephen Kern I used to love that show too! Their names were Paula and Carol and the squirrel puppet’s name was Sherlock.

@StukInBuf I thought I was the only one who remembered that "moon" PSA. I can recall the music they used especially as they showed the shot of the moon. And at the end of that PSA, there was a boy going down a slide and him saying to a little girl "I love you" (while he was taking a swing at her!) as the commercial ended. Wish someone could post it. WPIX...old school memories.

I loved watching Tom & Jerry at 4!! I’d get most or some of my homework done and then it was T&J time!! I would switch between channel 5 and 11. I think 5 had Battle of the Planets and the Little Rascals on after so yeah I didn’t get my homework done.

I recall two PSAs on WPIX in 1977... One had the word "LOVE" in it, showing a view of the earth from the moon. Was it some religious organization? Another one featured a little boy walking along a winding path towards the TV screen, and I think it was about being a foster parent. Anyone remember those? Thanks.

"Non stop action!" Is this Tom and Jerry, or Spy vs Spy? I kinda like it when the CO makes nice t.v. shows more macho than is necessary. Course, back in the day, I was nine or ten, living in Brentwood BY where, yes, they have 11 Alive on the dial, and Tom and Jerry were the closest I got to appreciating has ads violence. That and Ralph Bakshi's Spiderman cartoons, but that was channel 5 "The choice for fun", a whole different ball game.

Those "Disney Wonderful World of Reading" books have often turned up at garage/yard sales, flea markets and thrift shops...usually without the book rack.

@Hispanicpuertorican From what I remember, WOR-TV 9 didn't air cartoons until MCA purchased the station in 1987, when they revamped the station and added the morning cartoon block.

@jerseyoldschool I recall it was a volin playing, with four string plucks, one or each letter in "love." Afterwards, it started this crescendo and final upward flourish as the boy came down the slide saying "I love you!" Anyone have this, please? Great old-school stuff!

@jrzshore1972, Yes!! hilarious. I was trying to explain this to my college room-mate from Philadelphia and he thought I was making it up. They would always have kids call the show who couldn't even say the word, "pix" properly. And then the kids wouldn't even wait for the directions they would just start blurting a semi-audilble "pix" a dozen times.
