I'm almost in tears. I just watched TWO half-hour videos on replacing the water pump. There was a lot of babbling and herky-jerky camera motion, poor lighting and very little actual instruction and showing how to do the job. This video was perfect and in only 6 minutes. Nice job.

This mechanic is working on a Plymouth Breeze or similar sized car. I watched this while planning on working on my Neon. I wish I could express to him how frustrated I was when my motor mount bracket didn't slip out the way he did it. The way he casually pulls out the alternator belt... so much on here wasn't enough to actually complete this without a lot of effort to figure out what he left out. Also, the tensioner has been redesigned and looks a bit different. This video might have been made prior to that change. But if you want to follow this now, you'll have some surprises along the way.
@jeepwonder7 жыл бұрын
Perhaps if he didn't gloss over the critical things that could stop someone in their tracks. For example my three bolts for the motor mount bracket simply will not allow removal or installation of that bracket in the Neon. If I hadn't found another video explaining to jack the engine up then lowering it would allow their removal/installation I'd still be in the garage banging my head on the wall.

@@jeepwonder he glossed over things that were not critical at all. your issues come from a lack of experience working on vehicles. you clearly figured it out though so it must not be such a bad video.

Really? The body being inches narrower making his technique impossible is a small issue? If I wasn't experienced I wouldn't have been able to get around it. Your name says it all. @@buttpoopskittlefiddle201

What is the tool called that you used to get the crankshaft pulley on? I can’t find one that’ll thread and I’ve tried 3 different tool kits that weren’t the same thread type

Ive been researching this all week to do on my 02 neon. I seen a few things in this vid that are big things i was told never to do.. first is how did this guy remove the cam gear bolt without the tool to hold the gear inplace? Second how did he put that bolt back in to the cam gear??😅 holding the gear with his hand and effortlessly torque it to 85ftlbs?? Only thing i could think is he used that alignment pin youre Not supposed to use.. Then lastly i was told NEVER by no means turn a engine over by anything other then the crankshaft. He turned the engine over with the dang cam gear!😮 This is a good ruff over view but by no means a instructional step by step. And either about 8 forums and 6 videos on this subject i watched today were wrong... Or this guys video has some bad info in it. ..
@Dinkymaster710 ай бұрын
I did this 5 years ago. It's 85K miles ago since and has held up very well. You loosen the cam gear bolt before you remove the timing belt, it's got a key way, so the gear will not spin freely on the shaft. For the torquening it back on, you use the old timing belt to hold it still, and you will be able to get it done. If not, you just snug the bolt flush, then install the new belt, and when it's all on you can tighten it at last. Then it won't matter if the engine spins a little, because the crank will also move due to the belt being installed. In reality, it doesn't matter if you spin the engine with the camshaft bolt, or the crankshaft. Not on a low compression gasoline engine. I think this video is very good for giving a general instruction. I did it on a Chrysler Stratus with the same engine. Now I have to do it again due to milage getting close...

Took me days of work and fooling around: running for parts, trying different pullers since harmonic balancer had some damage from a previous screw-up, (ended up drilling and tapping balancer while on engine to use a completely different puller than the standard Mopar one.) Harmonic balancer installation tool kit that didn't include the proper parts that would work for this harmonic balancer, making my own installation tool for the balancer and having it welded up at a muffler place. Bunged up threads on the damper bolt, re-threading end of crankshaft, ordering new damper bolt from dealer and waiting for it. Depends on your experience, available tools and equipment and what shape everything is in from previous work done on vehicle. (Phew!) Hope yours isn't anything like mine was!

You forgot to mention one of the most annoying parts how you repeatedly have to raise and lower the engine just to get to the bolts and get them out. All the parts that would drive one insane doing this are removed just so folks know🤔

It’s actually not as bad as it looks. Trust me, I did it in 1 day with really no issues. If a 17 year old kid can do it you can probably do it better and faster. I replaced the water pump, hydraulic tensioner, and timing belt over 5 months ago and have had zero issues since!
@tomc8157 Жыл бұрын
Hard to change? You have to do this what once every 100k miles or so? Are you changing the pump or timing belt every week? It literally takes an hour to do. Super easy. Just did my 2004 R/T the other day. Timing belt, tensioner and water pump.
