It’s a horrific tragedy. And, unfortunately, the adults operating her boat sound like they hold the blame. For them to allow wake-boarding in choppy water, near a channel, on a busy day, AND towing double? It’s insanity. There’s a reason you need to take safety courses and know what you’re doing on the water. There are so many ways things can go sideways. I agree with others it’s quite likely the other boater did not see her in the water due to chop, swells, and wake. And it’s also very possible not to have heard or felt hitting her. And then to hear that there were 13 people on the boat, most of them young teens-this is a set-up for disaster. How tragic. When my pops or grandpop took us out, we had a spotter at the back of the boat and someone stationed next to the captain to communicate. Everyone else knew to stay out of their way and line of sight. The second someone goes down, the spotter waves and yells to the front while keeping eyes on the person in the water. I’m gonna go ahead and guess very little of that was happening.

As a lifelong boater, as much as it pains me to say this, the decision to pull a skier through a congested area in choppy conditions was what led to this tragic accident. Was the young lady wearing bright colors? were the seas rough causing her to be obscured? Sometimes people do things that put themselves at risk like jumping out into traffic. Yes, absolutely correct. Legally, you are required to take many actions when towing, depending on state and local laws. Generally, you are required to operate in non-congested areas, required to keep a certain distance, required to have a spotter, and required to raise a tow flag. If you don’t do those things, you are absolutely responsible. Once you take your boat into water, whether it’s a rental, borrowed, or your own, you are required to abide by these laws. It does not count as an excuse that you didn’t know the law and safety requirements; you assume legal responsibility.

I do believe this was just a terrible terrible accident. He didn’t try and covered up or hide his boat. I pray for her family. Maybe we could all donate to the ballerina dance club.

yes, a yacht captain... The only Captains I know of are in the Sally Anne. Go talk with a real Mariner a Master Mariner and ask them about collisions and leaving the scene and responsibilities of an incident.

Did the Yacht Captain know that his vessel hit a human coconut?

What are people doing playing water sport games where they can even see any other traffic /boaters first and second why would we be playing wakeboard games in a known high traffic area that is to be entered into with extra caution and care? I think showing off and trying to be an entertaining source for passing boaters is a reason as to why we think we have to be right in the middle of everything and everyone instead of somewhere else in the billions of options for ocean space for playing because people are so narcissistic and so just I don't even know what the word is these days for everybody has to make sure that they're shopping everything down everybody's throats yourself have a nice time with your family you got to be making a scene everything's for content make the content get your video cameras out look at me everybody look at me look at me and now look what happened I could be totally wrong but I'm just saying I know that there's no reason to be anywhere near Eddie high traffic or known areas of high traffic especially when it comes to being in damn sea

Interesting that nobody is releasing the name of the boat owners...maybe I missed that part? What happened was probably an accident, but it still requires the boat owners to stop and render aid doesn't it? Seems like the owners are rich and well connected that even the news won't release the name of the boat owner...maybe i missed that part? 100% the lawyers for the boat owners are telling them not to say anything and getting statements from other boat captains that the water was unsafe for wake boarding.

Surely the owner's name will be available if he is charged with a crime, negligence, speeding, or something.
