When my mother was notified about this horrific crime, she talked to the leaders of the local congregation but they advised her not to report it to the police. My father did not follow their rules and proceeded to report it. Both of them ended up disfellowshipped for not obeying what the elders instructed them to do. One day in field service, I was driving and pulled into a gas station for a break when the two sisters in the back seat suddenly started yelling about their father, who was an elder, saying how he would come into their rooms and wake them at 3 a.m. with a cold glass of water thrown at them to wake them. I'm sure there was a lot more going on. Another time, they had a party at their house and asked me to get something from the fridge. When I looked, there were two fridges next to each other. One was full of beer that no one was allowed to drink. Later, I learned he had been disfellowshipped for alcoholism but later reinstated and allowed to have oversight of the congregation. In their opinion, shunning of former members prevents the right to freedom of expression, and is contrary to Section 2 of the Norwegian Religious Associations Act. Jehovah’s Witnesses also permit disfellowshipping of baptized minors. This means that children can be expelled if they break the group’s rules. According to the government, this is negative social control and violates children’s rights. Also, unbaptized children who break the group’s rules may be exposed to social isolation. This too can be perceived as negative social control and a violation of children’s rights, and a violation of Article 6 of Norway’s Religious Communities Act. Therefore Jehovah’s Witnesses lose registration as a religious community in Norway because of their policy to enforce shunning of expelled members and are ordered to pay $22,735 in legal costs to the state. onlysky.media/hemant-mehta/norway-will-no-longer-fund-the-jehovahs-witnesses/

@@ronhansen8471 There is no state law that prevents or punishes clergy reporting abuse. There are only state laws that remove punishment if they decide not to report if something was said during a sacramental confession. Watchtower has disgustingly argued that exception to reporting law in several child abuse cases, and they've gotten in trouble for doing so multiple times because they try to use it even when communications were victims or bystanders making accusations, which they then investigated internally, not voluntary confessions. They also break confidentiality by passing all of this info to the branch vs the Catholic, Episcopalian confession model of priests refusing to tell even other priests what someone has confessed to them. Other professions with ethics requiring confidentiality break it easily to report child abuse, and even warn people ahead of time. I know because I do so in my own volunteer work as a trained crime victim advocate. There is no reason clergy cannot be held to the same standard, but the Catholic lobby really is powerful. So, the Watchtower gets to use loopholes put into the law thanks to the disgusting lobbying efforts of the Catholic Church and the legislators' disgusting fear of holding them accountable lest they lose their support, and you can then come here making excuses about how Watchtower isn't an abhorrent organization because, hey at least they didn't break ridiculous and woefully inadequate reporting laws. God forbid they do the right thing and the thing that protects kids without being compelled to by law, right? But no, they are not lawfully required not to report. The perpetrator was a relative through adoption. This father interviewed here was a ministerial servant, and his uncle, the perpetrator's adopted father, was an elder. He had multiple relatives in that congregation, and he went up against a team of elders telling him to shut his mouth and let everyone handle the situation in the family, which is super duper common with familial cases of child sexual abuse. The perpetrators' families very often protect them and throw the family member who has been victimized under the bus to maintain appearances and family unity. He called Bethel to report it himself despite that, and was then deleted as a ministerial servant for not obeying the elder arrangement. There is a lot more to this case than what is shared here, and he eventually did go to police. The state of Pennsylvania let the perp off of the hook because he was still a juvenile when it happened, because there still is a whole lot of ignorance, even among the justice system about the pathology of sex abusers. He was a teenager and old enough to know better. Yes, maybe parents of victims who don't go to "worldly" authorities may share some blame in not protecting victims. That doesn't mean it is ok for the other adults who become aware to not only refuse to report, but to circle the wagons around the abuser to protect him instead of the child. And this is what happens all too often in these cases.

Because they didn't lesson, they didn't repent thinking they were protected inside the temple,same time the elder back then murdered the prophets inside the Holy of the Holys where the ark of convent was... So God sent a highly military nation to destroy the temple... Who did God use?? The Roman soudgers.... Always God uses the secular powers to do the job.... Now we are in similar situation. Stay faithful.... There is a lot to see.... coming.

To be silent when one should speak up makes cowards out of men. That couple are the best example of cowards that I have ever seen. Absolutely sickening. Jehovahs witnesses say that they obey the laws of the land and don't report these types of crimes are cowards. I don't care what anybody else says. They'll call the police when it suits their wants, but they won't call the police when it doesn't. They are extremely erratic, and don't tow the line.

If the pedophile is a JW, the legal department tells the elder to not report the abuse to the authorities. When elders do report it to authorities, they are delected from their position of an elder. When the pedophile is not a JW, than they are allowed to report the abuse, with no repercussions comming to the elder. According to reported cases, the percentage of abuse (to the total in the religion), is twice as bad with the JW’s, compared with the Catholic religion.

The bible teaches the government is there because God is allowing it and we should follow the laws...pretty sure it is law that if you know of a crime especially so heinous you should report it. No wonder a lot of elders have abused kids. When someone sins they ask you every single detail of your sin and make a decision of whether to disfellowship you. These people should read galatians.

This is a great example of church and state being in bed with each other. At the expense and lives of the victims they prey on. As long as people attend these organizations and keep them running. This issue will never be fixed. It’s so embarrassing to think that adults in modern day still haven’t resolved how to fix this stupid problem in the world.

the 'two witness' claim is faulty, thats absolutely not what the bible says. its not talking about witnessing a sinful act.... Matthew ch 18 vs15: “Now if your brother sins go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that on the TESTIMONY of two or three witnesses every matter may be confirmed. 17 And if he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, he is to be to you as [p]a Gentile and [q]a tax collector.' [there are rarely two witnesses to an abuse.]

As.a former Jehovah's witness, you want to know what's funny, if you look at their previous song book.. The artwork on the back of the songbook actually alludes to this problem of sex abuse with children... It uses very suggestive EMBEDDED imagery... A man with an erection disguised as a deformed hand... A young girl wearing a chastity belt... The style of the imagery is meant to be subliminal, as if hiding in plain sight.. A lot of things could be going on in that place using the same signature... Given that they were BOLD enough to print that. It's a signature I've seen before with the Freemasons and it's where modern Jehovah's witnesses first had their start... Now I'm not trying to be condescending to anyone, but that's probably more than JUST a coincidence, it also has MAJOR spiritual implications... All things being equal, the simplest explanation tends to be right one... Sidenote: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqLbe2B8gqaGntk (It's no mystery to me)...

NOT TOLD NOT TO GO TO THE POLICE ANYWHERE IN THE WATCHTOWER. JUST GO TO POLICE. IF YOU KNEW ABOUT A MURDER YOU WOULD HAVE TO TELL POLICE, NOT ELDERS.
@mimid.6675 Жыл бұрын
The elders are instructed to report child sex abuse to the Watchtower Legal Department FIRST....the legal department then advised them on what to do , depending on whether or not reporting CSA to the authorities is mandatory in their state or country . If reporting to the authorities is not mandatory, the elders are instructed to handle the crime internally in their secret kangaroo courts called " judicial committees".
@whimsical_me5135 Жыл бұрын
It's not a policy they print in the public watchtower articles, that would be idiotic on their part and they aren't that stupid. But it is in the elders handbook that only appointed men in the congregation have access to.

Its the organisation behind it ( the governing body) that must be held accountable as they are telling Elders to report to them first (and they are the ones who call the shots). No one can tell me that they report to the authorities first. That is not the usual procedure.
