Google (My) Business Tutorial 2024 | A Step-by-step Guide

Hi guys, I hope this tutorial was useful to you. To clarify the name a bit; 👉🏼 Google has been changing the name of Google Business a gazillion times. Now its Google Business Profile, before that it was named Google My Business, before that, Google Places, and before that it was Google+ Local, before that it was also Google Places and then prior to that I think it was Google Local.... Lets just say that you can do what ever you want if you are one of the biggest companies on the planet 😂 Let me know what you think of the newest name and if this video was useful 👍🏼

Well if your business is in the USA, of course it’s needed to verify in the USA. But if you are somewhere else, you can verify somewhere else 👍🏻😀

Outstanding info well presented thank you. Up to June 2024 I worked on newspapers as a photographer I also shot weddings, events, everything in my spare time. The Company had a restructure and decided photographers were no longer a thing. So now I'm freelancing working for myself. Hi, Maybe a super stupid question. I got a task to manage a business profile of the company i work in. The profile is verified and it says i can manage the business profile. But i only get as far as answering on reviews and editing the profile. But if i wanna go into "Google my business" it jumps back to the "google search" and not the work space i can edit companies search results or snippets. Any types what i can do??

Hi there! Thanks for the question. So it seems that you don't have full ownership of the business and you are just allowed to edit things. Try logging into Google with the main account of the company, that should work!

When trying to verify it, its not that simple as it seems, most of the time you need to create a video or receive a postcard from the mail. So its pretty secured 😁

Hi Matt, great video. I created my "service" Google Business profile already (no physical address). It is a consultation service. When I clicked "Get Verified," I had to enter my mailing address, but then it only gave me a way to verify by "Business Video." I don't have the postcard option to send to my mailing address. Not sure why Google needs to show proof of business location when it is a service business. What would I do then?

Hi Danny! Thanks for the kind words and the question. I see this a lot happening. So when offering a “service” business, you always have to put in a physical address. It might be not logical, but if you register your business with he chamber of commerce, you also need to have a physical address. So your home address then would be the way to go!

Hi there! That’s a good question. Unfortunately they made it quite hard to do this. Especially because you can streetview your location. Thats why Google also don’t want that you use a ‘fake’ address. You could rent a small office for a month and see “if it fits” for no charge and then cancel the contract there?

Hi James, thank you for your question. I don’t think Google Business will help on the long run with SEO on a global scale. For local, yes. Multiple countries and you don’t have physical offices / stores - no 👍🏻😀

Google does not give me the option to get a post card in the mail. The only option is to create a convoluted video of my business. I have submitted the video twice and nothing has come back as accepted. How do I get the card in the mail???

HI Melanie, sure: just make a video with the business in the background, make sure to get the street name on video and your number of the building and use keys to actually go inside your business. That should do it!

I have a home service business so I don’t have an actual business address or building. I have tried 2 times sending a video that shows the street name as well as the house and some paperwork that shows the name of the company and address, but for some reason Google hasn’t sent me proof that my business has been verified. I don’t know what to do.

And if so, do I need the clients google account data or can I offer this service without his or her sensitive access datas? Great video, thank you - however I am having the same issue as some people in the comment section. We only have the option of uploading a video. Then it just says it's being verified for days, before eventually disappearing and allowing you to try and get verified again (despite following the instructions and providing the verification criteria) It's funny because it is a plumbing business we are trying to verify! We have made a video with the address, showing tools, service vehicle (unbranded,) contractors/plumbing license, business license, business card... You mentioned in your response to someone below to contact Google if we are having problems...any idea HOW to contact Google effectively? Thanks!

Hi Ariska! Thank you for your question about the Google My Business Profile. One way to do this is to add in your location on the exact same streetname and number as the hotel. Then the option might just show up! If not, you could wait for a few days, it might appear then...

For what I know, I think it’s not permitted In summary: If you are renting a virtual office space, for it to be eligible for a Google business profile, you must have clear signage, physically meet with clients at this location, and your staff must be present in the office during the hours you list. If all of this does not apply and you set up a listing anyway, you are technically in violation of Google’s guidelines. But who is going to check and are they going to shut you down or anything?

Hi there! Thanks for the question. Well it could be one of two reasons. First it that the phone number is on their blacklist, try using another phone number. Second thing could be that your Google Account has been flagged for making to many places. Try using a different Google Account for each clients - so use their email adres to make the place.
