Studio gives you Sqlite while servers usually run on Mysql or others. There is a miss match there, so it will not work. I tried and faced this.

This is a great compariosion video. It's very new and we don't know where it goes. If there are problems like migrating to actual server then it;s a big no to use. So far no problems with using Local by Flywheel. Does it become another Gutenberg kind of useless unfinished project for coming years?

Hi, Paul. When I want to migrate a website on Local to an actual server, should I use a plugin like all-in-one-wp-migration to export and back up the entire website from Local, and then install the same plugin in the original WordPress backend to import the backup? Is this correct? Will there be any problems? Or what should I pay attention to? PS: I don't have an account with WP engine or FLYWHEEL, and I don't host my website on them.

So basically you cant push to your live website on your own server or hosting of your choice from either app. Right?

Not unless you use WPEngine or Flywheel with Local. You’d still need to use a plugin like WPVivid to migrate from local to the server.

I agree - but, I would assume that is part of the benefit of using one of their dedicated hosting platforms that are integrated into Local.

Its still very early days for Studio and at this point is the worst its going to be. Local on the otherhand is well established and I would expect it to be ahead of the curve. Migrating using a db export and files transfer was easy for me to a live env for Studio. on Local, you can select a different sql on setup, but cannot change it after without exporting and importing again. Great vid as always!

just to add, I dont think the 'admin' username is a real issue. on migration to live, just change it! lol.

For experienced users, I would agree. But, I'd still like to see WordPress drop that and generate random usernames and passwords, not just passwords. It seems a bit lazy imho. ;)

@@WorkingInahanDiaries it means the local server running the site or sites will stop running and you won’t be able to access the site until you start it running again. 👍

@@WorkingInahanDiaries yes. To be able to access the site at all it would need to be running if you’re using LocalWP. If you upload the site to dedicated hosting in the future, that will remove the need to use Local.

Tbh, I have no idea. I've never tried running a MacOS emulator. My first thought would be that you'd still potentially see issues due to non Apple hardware being used, so you're losing the benefit of the closed architecture that seems to make using Local more stable on the Mac.

Great video from Paul as always. But what are the benefits of a local wp compared to online such as InstaWP or other solutions. Local means download,setup,config, update, resources, and perhaps no https? With instawp, one can get a core wo site in no time, and change the php, wp version...on the fly.

I think the lack of being able to create a blueprint on Studio is a big negative. Definitely feels like a beta.

Local is still so much better, there are a bunch of plugins that don't work. and the SQLite doesn't allow a lot of export solutions like all-in-one or wp migrate. Also their method of doing an SQL dump doesn't seem to actually work. Local is still the goto at present. the only thing Studio has going for it, is the speed of launch.
