As early as 1806, 21 years before his death, Beethoven shows his strong liking for string quartets. In no other genre did he show his genius, his revolutionary approach to music, and his deepest feelings than in his 16 string quartets; each one of them is like a child, unique and lovely. Many people didn’t like his three Razumovsky quartets in 1806 because of their difficulty, which left him unruffled--he always followed the commands of music, his only lover. The first one of these three quartets is almost 40 minutes long and ends with a Russian theme, which unifies it with the other two. Priceless pearls these three! 😄

the 2nd movement is a giant piece of art. a demonstration of how B could make something out of nothing, Just 15 same notes developed into a magnificent construct. Played very well here, BRAVO.

The first few seconds told me everything .... this an outstanding performance, warm, expansive, stunning ability. They have worked so very carefully on every point. I've the EMI boxed set from The Hungary Quartet which this very much reminds me of, suits me perfectly, and as my cd player is kaput this performance will see a lot of airing in this house. For many years played the later quartets here whilst making breakfast and once my old beagle died I couldn';t listen to this for a couple of years. I am so lucky to find this !! Its well miked too, a credit to everyone. I shall seek out whatever I can of their other performances.

I totally agree with you. It really carries Beethovens "muscle" with a very very nice 'pin point' technique. Very good use of texture as well.

Excellent performance. The hymn of the 3rd movement is one of the great moments in middle Beethoven; it will transport you.

Spirited, rolling-forward, exciting performance. In his quartets Beethoven breaks new ground, one quartet at a time, as he moves forward in his innovativeness. Taken all together they are a treasure and a lesson in how far a mind and heart can go.

An added if minor feature of many of the quartets on KZbin seems to be the informed & convergent harmony of listeners' comments; by which I am often buoyed & not frequently instructed.

Inspiring playing of inspirational music. Beethoven at one of his greatest moments of inspiration The string quartet form would never again be as it was before this work appeared. Bravo to players and especially composer!

A very good performance of this first Rasumaovski quartet in wich each movement is challenging. - at least the three first ones.

Some of the music from this Quartet are so intense, beautiful and moving that they are almost painful. Anyone who listens to it carefully and allows it to penetrate into your being will find tears close during many passages in the 3rd movement. If Beethoven created ONLY this, it would be reason enough to suggest that the man's music is truly immortal. After all, it is done entirely by only 4 instruments. sanjosemike

If u or another listener so-inclined would allow, what does or might such 'Deutscheskeit' entail; & what might a more American quality offer &/or withhold?
@notaire2
@notaire2 3 жыл бұрын
@@sholoms Just listen to the precision, strictness and synchronicity of this performance, which I mean Germanic. The American style prefers a little more liberty and relaxation.
@sholoms
@sholoms 3 жыл бұрын
@@notaire2 If the precise coordination u called German can predictably approximate or even, just approach the passion & power I experienced, thruout that performance of Beethoven's Op59/1, then, at least in re to playing chamber music of the classical tradition, I may try listening 1st to the performances of Germanic provenance. Do wonder tho, if this will work dependably, regardless of a piece's compositional origin &/or artistic style; e. g., in rendering a Faure' chamber work as well as one by Brahms'?
@notaire2
@notaire2 3 жыл бұрын
@@sholoms So far as this work is concerned, its performance needs rather the highest technique and the most precise synchronicity than the passion and power. Apart from this work and its performance, I don't have any conclusive idea on what is Germanic and what is American.
