WR250R - Still the King of the Lightweight Adventure Bikes

Join Azza and I as we continue to test and develop the new to us Yamaha WR250R's. Arguable one of the best lightweight adventure bike ever built and sadly no longer in production. At the start of the video I talk a little on the modifications to the bikes so far and then we head into the bush for a short but fun ride. My very first motorcycle was a 2019 wr250r, I loved that bike but I eventually sold it off for a bigger more powerful ktm 990 adventure bike. I regret selling it. So now like the most of us I’m waiting for Yamaha to make a wr300r or wr350r 😒

It happens to us all mate. We often regret selling certain items in our lives. I’d given up waiting for a upgraded version of the WR250, hence why I bought this one. Thanks for watching

I believe it. I went Ninja 500 > Z750S > WR250R and although the WR lacks the beans of the 750, I'm having way more fun on it. It's a stout little 250 and the light weight/go anywhere style suits me very well. It's not a highway cruiser like my other bikes, but it can go places they'd only dream of. Dual sports FTW! I'm glad to have gotten one of the last runs and love her dearly.

G'day Rob. I'm just under 6 foot with a longer torso than legs. The bars I have on the bike are the Protaper "Pastrana FMX/ATV Race" or at least that is what is written on them. Just watch going too high as your cabling my not be long enough

HOw did you get the graphics to stay on the tank?

The adhesive they use on the stickers is pretty good. Just cleaned the tank down with alcohol wipes, let dry and then stick them on. Pretty easy really 👍👍

How much better is the 14-49 gearing than stock ?

First of all it allows the bike to rev a bit more freely and pull through the gears better. First gear is far better on the hills and 6th gear is still fine on the highway. Secondly you should prolong the life of your plastic swing arm chain guide as the chain is physically lifted further away. Win win if you ask me.

DMK designs supplied the custom tank decals and at this stage I don’t believe I’ll be putting a fuel programmer on the bike. Thanks for watching👍

That depends on conditions, especially wind direction and speed of but you’ll sit at 100kmh no problem. 110kmh all day long isn’t out of the question when the conditions are favourable but the big hills will pull her back. Don’t get me wrong here as it will hold at speed but it’s not going to be like riding a big multi cylinder adventure bike. In saying this its little single cylinder engine is one of the smoothest I’ve ridden 👌. Thanks for watching👍

The LED indicators were bought from AliExpress. Long way to go with my recovery I’m afraid. Still not allowed to put any weight on the leg at this stage but hopefully that will change in the coming weeks

Iv had a lot of adv/dual sport bikes, the WRR and the KLX are just the Kings in my opinion. The WR will win a drag race if u like to ring small motor's out, the KLX has more low end smooth torque. U can usually find the KLX used for $2k cheaper, spend $600 on fuel/air mods and then u got the same wheel hp as the WR but with a lot of torque. I couldnt find a WRR for under $6k last year, but found a really built KLX for $4k and after test riding both I chose the Kawi. Love both these bikes!

We get that you like this bike, but king?? This bike is so boring to me, nearly zero torque at low RPMS as it looks to be revved, so it's a pain in tricky terrain. I'd much rather go with the KLX250, CRF250 or DRZ400 for dual-sporting. I do LOVE my WR250F though. Now THAT is a bike.
