I've had issues with Stabil in the past, even just a year old or so. I found and use a product called PRI-G _(or PRI-D for diesel)_ it is also used by a lot of ships. I've had non-ethanol premium fuel 10 years old, runs fine. Probably don't have too, but I dump a few ounces in each tank _(55 gallon drum)_ once a year or two just to make sure it maintains strength. Good stuff. But the most important thing for anyone is to start with non-ethanol fuel, as ethanol makes fuel go bad faster than anything else. Especially if running it in small engines like chainsaws, and even in lawn-mower type engines to some degree.

Its jused on for example outbords. no mod to the cans.

I got mine with a quick connection change to go between a 120V inverter for a wall outlet (garage) or a step down converter to use a Milwaukee M18 battery (portable for car camping). I am using the original tank (added filter and upgraded fuel lines) but I really worry about some sort of failure on the cheap tank so this was inspiration to upgrade. Thanks Cody!

The design of the tupe you fitted is made so you use a flightly larger hole saw, then you can fit it from the outside by putting it in at an angle to begin with. Plenty of other videos on youtube showing how its done. But even so, really good idea using a jerry can.

On my old gasoline emergency portable backup generator, I had installed a Johnson-Evinrude fitting on a tee with an A/B/Off valve, I could hot-swap an outboard motor fuel tank by switching to on-board tank then switching back to the remote tank once the swap was complete. It worked quite well when we were without power for 9 days during Hurricane Sandy. “Act accordingly” I believe is the operative phrase😊

Cleaning up as you go only works on small jobs that you know you will not need that tool again in 5 minutes. Being too neat and organized will drive you crazy and feed your OCD. You gotta find a balance. In the world of deadlines, you gotta make sacrifices. Often you’ll try to make things ideal just to discover that that situation is obsolete next month because circumstances have changed and you have to demolish what you put too much energy into trying to make it perfect. Too much neatness as a fools errand. Speaking as a former neat freak. I could only scale up my business to size its at today by letting go of that need for perfect ideal conditions and just getting it done. 😊 I am a contractor. Love the video though and if you are on camera there is a need for visual neatness to satisfy your audience so I totally get it.

Safety note on working on any fuel tanks. Have a friend that is a pro welder fab guy. When we had to weld and cut on tanks he always would put powder laundry soap in the tank and fill it up with water and let it sit over night before working on them. We never went BOOM!

Place a fender washer onto the holesaw over the pilot bit to prevent the teeth from grabbing when the drill bit initially punches through. Then, remove the washer to complete the hole. This can save the teeth from catching and breaking. This can also prevent damage to the pilot bit. This trick is most important when using a very sharp (new) hole saw and/or going through soft metal...

You can put that same pickup tube on a plastic diesel can with no mods if it has the collar that goes around the filler. To me this has big benefits, you can quickly swap fuel cans without shutting off your heater, you have multiple fuel tank options in case yours gets damaged, its easier to go unnoticed filling a couple 5gal cans if that becomes a concern.

This is where a plastic 5 gallon diesel can works perfectly. All you need to do is trim down the round flang on that lift tube until it’s the interior diameter of the cap. Remove the funnel neck, gasket both sides of that lift tube flang, and screw it into the tank. I bought replacement caps to ditch those damn safety caps and it’s the best 15 bucks you’ll spend.

Hi Cody, i really like your style of videos and your attitude of appreciating the simple moments. Here's just an idea for a tent. The tent you heat with a diesel heater, you may consider proper insulation and roof reinforcement. Our greenhouse has a similar construction but sheds snow with no problem. A second tent with a roof with a huge pitch could help shed snow, buildings in our mountains have crazy roof pitches like 60 or 70 degrees and no snow stays there. Not telling you what to do, just possible alternative solutions to burning fuel 24/7 to save the tent. Have a blesed day.😃

A lot of small low compression diesel stuff, especially heaters, can run on a mix of 50% used motor oil (filtered) and diesel. I run my truck on it. It gets a little less "mpg" but it has a little hotter burn and you can turn the pump down and run less fuel because of it.
