Man. I know how that feels. Was riding 4 wheelers with a group of about 15 people, hit a rail road tie in a big water puddle, which threw me over an embankment and the 4 wheeler flipping over toward the river. Got out of the way before it rolled on me and I had enough time to stop it just as it was hitting the water. It was my brother 4 wheeler. Surprisingly the 4 wheeler only got some damage to the attached storage box. I may have broke my middle finger and it still hurts alittle 2 months later. People behind me couldn't beleive it when i got up and stopped the fourwheeler and that it didn't get much damage. We rode for another 8 hours after that with now problem. Except the embarrassment ugghh

Whiskey throttle is no joke. I have an R1 and grabbed a handful of throttle just like Cody did. Well first gear on that bike ran out to about 90mph and it did every bit of it on one tire. I never knew it had a name. Had it happen once on my Honda 500. Totally a street bike but accidentally popped it in gear totally unprepared. The lesson is to never get comfortable. Comfort creates false confidence and too much false confidence leads to simple mistakes. Ok let me correct my statement after watching the wreck a few times. It actually looks like you were planning to coast up to the other bikes and thought you had put the bike in neutral. Then planned on revving the bike a little as thas what most of us riders do , but you dumped the clutch thinking it was neutral and it was still in gear which would explain the initial jump then you got startled when it made a big move and unfortunately were past the point of return from the blip of the throttle.

@@widowmaker419 that's completely it. I've been running over it in my head. Cody pumped the clutch thinking it was the rear brake like on his husky. In that split second the bike revved to 4k and then he immediately dumped the clutch. It's down to a change of bike/controls and being super nervous and in a new environment and not compensating for that. The more adrenaline we have pumping the more likely we are to go into auto pilot and follow muscle memory. This time the muscle memory was wrong.

Well, this is why you shouldn't change any braking systems nor a way of designed use in any way, it causes danger if you're not used to the "normal" way to use it any more. I'm glad you're okay and alive. Motorcycles are deathmachines and you should be very careful. Thanks for your honesty and for sharing this.
@MattiasMagnusson6 жыл бұрын
@Brexit Monger well, if you are used to something modified on a bike that you ride on regular basis, then it's just hard to remember how it used to be, muscle memory is used to the modified way of use, and that's just how your body remembers how you used to do it mostly. If you ride both it's probably the best way to get used to ride both ways and also easier to ride and remember more modified bikes in the future. At least that's my experience when it comes to motorcycles. I have been riding enduro since I was 3 years old, every new bike is handled with cautions of differentials. It's often not modified much, but as little as a new handle grip could make the difference of life and death when getting on an unexplored bike like this. If you're getting a new bike, make sure you know in your mind to be cautious before you truly know the bike.

Very good learning tool here. I rode enduro for 8 years, and decided to buy my first actual street bike back in 2016. Bought a 2009 Harley Night-rod Special. The largest bike I had ridden before that was 300cc. I had owned the Night Rod for a grand total of maybe 3 hours, and dumped it at a stop sign. I wasn't used to the weight of a big motorcycle, and didn't have my handlebars straight when I came to a stop. Dumped the bike, panic rolled the throttle, and crushed my gear shifter lever. Brand new bike (for me), broken in the span of 3 hours. It was a very humbling experience.

Even though I had been riding for years and didn’t have a long break from riding a bike with a clutch like you did, the first time I ever rode a 450 the exact same thing happened to me. Last year I bought a bike with a Rekluse clutch and started to learn bad habits (I did not have left hand rear brake though, it was still a manual clutch override). I justified it that I know how to ride and could get along without it. Meanwhile I was teaching my 11 year old son how to ride a bike with a clutch.... One day he was teasing me about cheating and being a lazy rider... It struck me he was right and that it did no one any favors to learn bad habits. That bike is gone and my son doesn't tease me about that anymore. Glad you are ok and thanks for sharing.

No reason at all to get embarrased, we all make mistakes. Everyone was ok. If it makes you feel any better I failed my msf course today, went a few inches wide on the u turn, hit a cone and put my feet on the ground. Was it embarrassing in front of a bunch of biker dudes (with a lot more experience than me), yes for a minute but they all supported me and felt for me, they had all been there before. I will definitely learn from it and re take the test. I think it was quite courageous of you 1) to ride with people of such caliber 2) to man up and be honest with yourself and your mistake 3) share it publicly. Thanks for sharing- this can help someone in the future.

i wish there was more people out there who stand by their errors fails and mistakes just like Wranglerstar does. to admit that nothing got stuck to the throttle and that it was all just his fault due to not being familiar with the machine - man, that's just great !!!

I did something similar when I was 14. 20 years later my best friend still remembers me locking the throttle and taking the bike into a deck.

I rode bikes for years. Mostly on the trails. A friend asked if we would like to go on a cruise with him and his daughter. Sounded great. I had a Honda 1100 that I had ridden for a long time as well as a 250 Honda. So we took the 1100 and ended on a paved road that we needed to turn around on. With the Wife on the back and the friend already turned around I went to turn around and dumped the bike. Nobody hurt but me looking like what the heck just happened, I really like your honesty.
@PhilosoraptorXJ6 жыл бұрын
They didn't look happy or considerate at all when you crashed. Andrew seemed cool, but the looks you got from the other riders wasn't necessary. You weren't being a ham. You just made a simple mistake that any one of them, including me, could have made. If it makes you feel better, I once fell asleep while lying on the back in a parking lot. Was waiting for a friend. He pulled up, I got startled, and both me and KLR hit the ground. I've crashed by bike without even moving. That takes skill right there.

It's good to hear these guy's were gracious and didn't make a big deal of your little mishap. Could have been a lot worse afterall. Love your video's and is great to see a humble KZbin "entertainer" doing what they love and sharing it, warts and all. Keep up the good work bud.

I’ve grown to respect you Cody, since finding your channel, but that respect has just reached new heights. We all make mistakes, some we get away with, and some are a catastrophe, the important thing is not trying to blame someone or something else. Incredibly honest of you to post this video. I am sure I won’t have been the only one watching this who truly felt your pain and embarrassment in that moment. Glad you and everyone involved was ok and the only injury was pride. 👍 Keep up the good work, all the best 👍

I really liked this one Cody, Ill be honest ive been a bit drawn away by the clickbait for a while but im happy I clicked this one. I can see how the clickbait could help but I dont know, its a bit offputting as a actual subscriber who want's to know what you're up to vs a random person off youtube clicking it. But also you want to grow so it makes sense to market to more people. Im pretty split on this, thoughs?

You don't see much straight honesty on KZbin so you have to commend it when you find it. A great lesson for us all, to see someone taking full responsibility for a mistake. Thankfully the thing that got damaged was a little pride and a couple of bikes.

Videos get a monetization bonus if the video is longer than a minimum of ten minutes, knowing Cody personally that's probably his reasoning. Once you know that fact it changes your whole view on KZbin channels, to tell the cash grabbers from the humble.

It goes without saying but, it can happen to the best and Cody, you are one of the best of them. I know how you are feeling. Keep your head up buddy. What a testament to the true nature of your outstanding character having the courage to post this vid on KZbin! You didn't have to do this, 99% of creators would of left this on the cutting room floor but you didn't. I respect that as everyone should. My wife says you are the true epitome of macho. Every once in a while we get checked and put in our place. I think it’s saying “You’re getting complacent. You’re going to get hurt. Pay more attention to what your doing or something bad is going to happen”. It just happened to me a few weeks ago. You got checked pal. No one was hurt and everything is fine. Just some embarrassment to humble you a bit. Handled it all really well Cody. Good video. Cringe worthy... haha Thanks for sharing with us.

It happens! While riding a HUGE Polaris 4Wheeler harvesting xmas trees I hit some mud and pulled for a hard right hand turn. It was a twist throttle which I'd never ridden (used to thumb throttle). The bike went up a 8 foot noble and I ended up on top of a pile of saws and bailing twine that used to be in the back tool box. I bet I wasn't even going 3 miles an hour until I inadvertently twisted that throttle and sent that thing into orbit. I was just glad I wasn't using the one with a trailer!

I’m still confused, how would you “rev up the engine, to keep it from stalling” with a Rekluse? And if you pulled in the clutch on this normal clutch to do this, you would have crashed."?..

Cody - thoroughly appreciate your honesty and integrity on this and I really feel for you. I too am an experienced rider and have also suffered the odd freak accident, of course always with an audience. It takes a real man to admit though to how you really feel when something like that happens. Really does happen to the best of is and all power to you, only a fool would judge otherwise.
