That color scheme is great...love the look of the car and its nod to both the Escalade (the teal color) and the #29 car. And such a smart call to do your offseason testing and getting familiar with the car before you race it. I've got projects I've rushed out there for different things and they just weren't finished to my satisfaction or to the best they could have been - and that's just "look fancy" stuff, not go-fast stuff.

What a informative video on how much work goes into the "wrap". Keep these kind of videos coming. People need to know how much planning and work goes into this entire process. Yes get used to the car. I was the engine builder for a CASCAR team between 1993 - 1998. We did not have big sponsors. The owner of the car owned a body shop, we were lucky that the track had testing days where you could test the car. I just put a spare engine in the car. We did this to get the chassis sorted out first. Get the car to handle first and then put the race engine in, that way you have a base to work from. We had no computers, only a clip board and every change was written down including comments made by the driver after each change. By doing this before hand we knew that "off the trailer" we could be competitive. This progress is going to be fun to watch.

I haven't even watched 30 seconds, but I've waited MONTHS for this! Great to see this done. Edit: Just watched it through, love the choice of the scheme, and the detail around the spikes on the #42 is absolutely perfect. Love how it cuts correctly. Lesser designers would've just used the original base made for the #29, whoever did your graphics deserves a raise. Also love your own attention to detail on it. The blue base wrap gives me strong vibes to the car Kevin ran in the shootout in 2003 that was red with black numbers.
@stapleton42extra Жыл бұрын
You have a great eye! The color scheme was referenced from the red shootout car with my teal swapped for the red! Also the number cuts to match the 42...I worked with Brian on that to make sure it was perfect. He had it nailed down after only a couple revisions. When people do a throwback to that scheme they never do that part correctly and almost never replicate the scheme with total accuracy. I wanted to make sure I did.

The vinyl wrap deal is interesting. As usual the product continues to improve and the sticky issues are resolved by the manufacturer. Watching a pro work is always educational, no substitute for experience. Your plan for racing is solid, learn the car and practice. Every time you turn a lap you gain experience. I began by autocrossing many years ago. Then I began doing timed track events in cars I built. I attended an SCCA racing school to get my ticket and began vintage racing my Corvair's. That first actual race on track (At Road Atlanta) with all the other cars was eye opening, especially getting used to traveling at high speeds with a bunch of other cars just inches off your car and hoping they knew what they were doing which, as I discovered was not always the case. Having a faithful partner is also key. If it were not for my wife I could not have done what I did. Looking forward to seeing you on track with your stocker.
@stapleton42extra Жыл бұрын
thanks man that is a great point. The other cars at speed thing is what the average folk do not understand about racing. It is like a hornets nest out there when you are actually in the car.

Many years ago, when I was working in the cup series, the team had me take a car to Hollywood for a movie premiere. The next day, I had to meet up with people from Disney and other studios and talk to them about the car and the function of any components they had questions about for the movie and sketches they was drawing on the backside of a hotel parking lot. After that was completed, me and one other person had to wrap the car in the primary paint scheme in 25 mph win. And back then, wraps weren't as forgiven as I'm sure they are now. Once again, great video, content, and the car look great. Can't wait to see what kind of contingency stickers you add for the finishing touches.
