Watch Colin do an interview onboard, the co-driver looks relaxed and handles the ride pretty well. This section is a lesson on how to perform handbrake turns and Scandinavian Flicks.

Sequentially controlled semi-automatic gearbox. Hes using the clutch because its a handbrake turn and its AWD so you need to clutch to avoid damage to the drivetrain. Hope that helps

What a FEEL he must have had for the dynamics of the car. I'm so amazed at the precision over a bumpy narrow as fuck goat track. I mean how much harder must it be than smooth bitumen/concrete. Like the skill of a snooker professional.

@tomikkkkk it all depends how long you are going to keep the handbrake on,if you were doing a full handbrake turn then yes you would need to press in the clutch(so it wouldn't stall the engine) especially if you are doing it from a highish speed as you would want to go down the gears to select 1st gear to accelerate away,you wouldn't necessarily av to press clutch in if going at speed&just quickly using the handbrake to get the back end of the car out if you were wanting to drift/slide car

The clutch is only needed when starting off or to prevent stalling. You normally don't use it altho with older transmissions, it was faster to use the clutch when shifting up. In this case, he's using it to keep the revs from dropping too quickly from locking the rear wheels and from the resistance of the road. If you kept the clutch in, it would be harder to turn and you would probably stall.

the fastest rally driver to ever live,ask any team or person he worked with will tell you that,he was fearless&that was Colins' problem,being too fast/fearless he didnt know when to reign it in,therefore leavin us with some spectacular crashes to watch in disbelief,if he hadnt been as fearless as he was he would've set many more records,won many more rallies&been World Rally Champion a few more times aswell,my motorsport inspiration,RIP COLIN MCRAE,taken well before your time

@DriftK13 THey made a short tribute to collin mc rae, they talked about how clarkson's son beats collin in video game and collin was frustrated and just kept on asking his kid to go over and play each day after school. I see your point tho, although as it looks hammond and may aren't really big fans of f1. They really should bring some rally driver to star in a reasonably priced car, maybe rally and touring car guys gets their own board:P

@lawnmowerpower if you ever would've listened to Block talk, you'd hear how he praises colin and always speaks about how he was his idol, so dont be so quick to judge. Your talking about a guy who just broke into the WRC versus a rally legend, and I believe Ken does have the potential to become a modern day Colin in a couple years. Similar aggressive styles. They are/were both extremely talented. Forever Sideways - R.I.P. C. McRae.

OK, we know what to do with steering wheel, but how about brake and throttle? Let's say I want to do a scandinavian flick, driving 70 kph- steering wheel to the left and then flick to the right and again to the left. But when and how do I use pedals (Manual transmission)? Do I also need to shift gear up to get some traction on front wheels(FWD, no ABS)?
@zhbvenkhoReload9 жыл бұрын
Arek The main part is that the car gets loose at the rear wheels. I have done it and I just clutch in in case I stop and I usually shift down let go off smoothl IF I really have to, otherwise I just dont downshift. I am not a professional driver, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
@stam1ska9 жыл бұрын
+Arek Scandinavian Flick is more effective if you go faster before the turn and perform it with pushing the brake slightly. Remember that pushing the brake gives you faster turning in, of course if you don't lock the wheels.
