Back in the late 60s, a neighbour decided to strongarm me into being his oily rag. He taught me plenty about decorating (he was an obsessive perfectionist) but he had trained as a draughtsman- at AEC Southall in the late 1940s. He told me that AEC dropped the name Matador because it meant "killer" but only for bulls in Spain, I thought-so it may have been urban myth in Southall. In his shed he had huge cans full of bits purloined at AEC. I used to think "How sad!) collecting stuff like that but I now know he was a wise man. Anyway, he used to bung me a few bob for my assistance and I used to spend time on the sofa with one of his daughters perfecting new skills.

I'm a 72 year old disabled Vietnam veteran iv been a mechanic all my life I can't walk any more so I do all my work from a handicapped scooter I'm restoring a 1947 chevy fleetmaster 2 door and a 1948 olds 4door model 66 if I can do this you guys can for sure do old 37..I wish there was someone on KZbin who could come to my place a help me it would make a good video about never giving up .if I was close to you guys I would help you do old 37..keep up the good work Tom Putnam Ovid Michigan 🇺🇸 USA

Good morning your Lordship, as far as the AEC Matador no 37 goes RESTORE RESTORE RESTORE as I believe it’s worth it’s wait in gold and most definitely is WORTH RESTORING a truly historical piece of equipment like AEC’s MATADOR no 37 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And not only that it’s also a great way to start a hobby in classic vehicles 🚗.

You must restore, take the offer up!! I can't offer to help, I'm 12,000 miles away in New Zealand. In the 70's, the house next door in Auckland was taken away in the middle of the night by a Matador, operated by a local house mover by the name of Winslow. How a Matador got to NZ and whatever happened to it I don't know. Brian Mac.

I worked in forestry from 1960s to 1991 and used matadors for winching almost all our timber out ,lovely trucks simple to repair i miss them very much lovely 😍 sound with that aec engine they don't make them to last 80 years today please save it.

Don't ruin it's originality by doing a full restoration, light cosmetic resto and good mechanical work over is all she needs. Once you lose the look of age a truck or any piece of equipment aquire's over it's working life you find it just looks the same as all the other's at the show. Restoration with respect.👍👍

We don't have a choice other than to restore it as it's fucked. The 'originality' went after the war when they cut it about. You won't see another like this at a show as we are keeping it as mobile plant.

Restore, film and save No. 37. The Matador was one of my favourite British military trucks along with the Scammel tractors. It was also one of my favorite Airfix model kits (RAF 6x6 tanker of some sort along with a Bedford fuel tanker IIRC) I made as a kid. PS. You were right about this going to cost you heaps!

I say restore it, but then I do have a soft spot for AEC wagons. Back in the day I passed my HGV2 in a Militant 6x6 tenny. I then enjoyed real speed in a Milly 6x6 Wrecker (c/w a 20t Tasker trailer, going down hills in neutral doing 70 mph plus). Anyway; I'm not one to spend another mans money, so you do what you have to do and I'll still enjoy watching it.
