In Germany the G Series is called Geländewagen. Much like the Hummer, the G Series was originally designed for military use. They are still used by the German Military, but it is outfitted very differently.

@@KINGofKEROSINI wouldn't even say it's that reliable. Drove one (well, many) in the Australian Army. Drove 4x4 and 6x6 versions in both utility (tray on the back) and wagon versions in both two seat and five seat configurations, our unit also had a "special" version. My old beat up Nissan 4x4 is more reliable than the G-Wagon. And to be perfectly honest, without the front and rear different locks engaged, the G-Wagon is USELESS offroad. My Nissan has an open front differential and an LSD rear and can drive everywhere the G-Wagon can.

It's good to see a damage assessment video again. Most of the expensive damage is usually hidden. Air Bag Deploy usually means it's totaled. I'd be surprised if the insurance co wanted to fix this.
@heatherrrenea
@heatherrrenea 8 ай бұрын
I think that’s an old wives tale. Its a numbers game. It depends on if fixing it. If the cost of repair plus salvage value of the vehicle meats or exceeds the ACV (actual cash value) of the vehicle, then it is a total loss. So it’s not worth 175,000 cash value. It’s probably only worth 100,000 cash value. But the fixing the damage is less so it would be fixed. This g wagon doesn’t need an entire seat like most cars. That’s what he was showing about it. Most cars the entire seat needs replaced. But not with this one. Just needs a new airbag.
@jonnywilson9117
@jonnywilson9117 7 ай бұрын
@@heatherrrenea You focused on the seat and ignored all the other expensive parts that need to be replaced. I'm thinking this is a total loss. $80,000 and some change which wasn't including everything is a lot. I don't think labour will have been included in the estimate because some repairs, like a bent frame for example might take an hour to repair, or they might take 5. But again, this is an estimate. This isn't the final price, even for the parts. This will go up to somewhere exceeding 100k I'd imagine. Okay I know Robby focused on the seat for a moment because that seat's probably about 5 grand. Which wouldn't surprise me, but that not needing to be replaced, won't have reduced the repair cost by a noticeable amount. Be interesting to find out more on this one though.

The G-wagon began production in 1978-79 and has changed little since in its construction. That's why they are built the way they are, still mostly assembled by hand like cars were in the 70s and 80s. Personally I love these. Not for the status, but who cant love a factory 4x4 that comes with solid axles front and rear with lockers and a locking transfer case as standard? Although 2018ish and newer are independent front, they still have lockers. Out of the box they are extremely capable.

I've owned a couple Mercedes and after the first one I was totally in love, because they were literally thought through when they built them, if you think there is a bolt you cannot reach, just look around because they engineered some easy access hole for it. Just all sorts of things that make them so much easier to work on than you would think they are. The only bad about working on them is getting the parts and the cost of the parts. I had to replace just one side of my dual stainless exhaust that had gotten damaged and it was $3800 just for the pipe I needed and the muffler because it was designed with special bends, fittings and had to be shipped from Germany, because no one in the states had one available, nor did anyone have the special fittings I needed to bend and make one up myself. In all honesty though, they are pricey, but you get what you pay for, they are very well built, tough as nails, rarely have problems and the regular maintenance is the same as any trucks cost.

You do know that aluminum only has galvanic corrosion if it is against another metal, and there is moisture present, per the definition posted in the video. Aluminum oxidizes. It does not rust. Aircraft aluminum is available with a predetermined layer of oxidation on it to use as a layer of protection from the factory. I buffed enough American Airlines jets while I was in A&P school to be able to get a mirror finish on them after heavy maintenance in Tulsa, OK. The only ones that didn't get buffed were the Folkers because they had a protective layer of oxidation on them. If memory serves me correctly it was 100 thousands of an inch layer and they would actually measure it for the thickness when the plane was in for a heavy check.

These are high quality vehicles; probably one of the finest Mercedes vehicles made. Front, center, and rear lockers. The diffs are both offset to be inline for straight line clearance like an old Land Rover. The front CV joints are encased in a hardened chrome swivel ball housing for protection. Obviously the AMG models have a ton of power. Later versions went to an independent front suspension which drives nicer. The insurance will likely total it out, but you should buy it and do the build for the channel. These are far more interesting than the usual domestic stuff or old vehicles. Would probably bring in enough KZbin revenue to offset the cost.

Probably more affordable to buy a piece of one that went through a car shredder

I was with a friend and we had a slight boo boo. We were in a Jeep Wrangler, hired vehicle for going on a trip (we had it ten minutes). We had a minor collision with a Renault Laguna. The front end of the Laguna was removed. The Jeep had a dented front bumper on the left corner.

How can that G thing not be totalled already? Wife wants "Barbie" tools? Why not... Bet you'll be borrowing the 10cm socket and other escapees sooner than you think 😅

Back in 78, we had a metallic gold Ford Fiesta. A garbage truck made a right turn from the left lane, taking out my left front fender. Three different body shops tried to match the color and failed. It was still poorly matched when I sold it a few years later.
