Shoutout to this crew for actually reading the names out loud instead of relying on, out of frame, shiny glare white board, in between multiple camera cuts. Made watching this much more enjoyable without having to rewind or freeze frame 😂

They thankfully started doing that with the last few TLCs because it was a pain in the ass to have them reveal the boards, not be able to read them for the glare, and to just hear them go "Ooo interesting choice" when we can't read anything lol

Going from the podcast I'm going to guess it was supposed to be these three. Sat and Luke mentioned that Sat missed the best and worst match lists with Tempest messaging him that day to try and work out where he was. So it sounds like those three were supposed to do all the lists, so either those two episodes will be just Luke and Tempest or the third will be whoever was in the office and free that day.

Will and Takeshita deserve the world. I was at Revolution in the nose bleeds and a guy sitting near us spent the whole show until then complaining that no one was a star, that no one was as good as his old favorites from WCW/JCP, etc until their match. He hut up a little bit into it and was cheering like a little kid by the end, saying it was the best match he'd ever seen and both were stars. I can't think of a better endorsement for either of them

Is this mostly based of in ring work? Because overall, how can neither have punk in their list. Even though he was injured, he is imo the most exciting thing in wrestling today. Most interesting storylines and his promo duels were elevating everyone he worked with (Drew, Seth, Cody, Roman etc). If it's pure in ring work, i get it. But you can't deny that punks stuff overall is the most exciting.

The line at the end of "We'll see how (Kyle Fletcher's) 2025 goes" made me think you guys should do a "People to watch out for" top 10 at the end of the year. Like a list of explicitly people who aren't on your top 10 list or who are lower on it, but who you think/hope will be on it at the end of next year. I like the prediction style lists and videos you guys do and think that could be a fun idea for the future.

Not only is everyone on their a good performer, not only does the struggling show not dismiss the talent of the wrestlers, but it’s also their list, their opinion. @@starscreammtfan I mean...any list that doesn't prioritise in-ring work and/or who prioritises the evolution of careers wouldn't include Will Ospreay near the top. And I say that as someone who had him as WOTY last year. If he had shifted fully to the main event and was feuding for the title with Swerve, Hangman and others in meaningful storylines - as he should be instead of the inexplicable pivot to Ice Cold Jon Moxley and his AmDram Emo troupe - I'd agree. Just as I love Willow and Takeshita but wouldn't have them on the list. Because at this point there is simply no trust in AEW/Tony picking the right talent for the right job.

Seriously, how did so many people believe the crowd would have turned fast on Cody is beyond me. And I get the comparison with other babyfaces crowds turned on, but there's a lot of difference. First of all, if they're thinking about guys like Cena, Roman or Seth, those guys were never booked as good as Cody has been booked as a babyface by Triple H, mostly because Vince couldn't book a great babyface to save his life after Hulk Hogan. And one could argue he didn't really do a great job with Hogan either at times, Hogan was just so universally beloved that it would have been hard to f*** him up at his highest heights. Second, they were not really "universally" beloved to begin with. Cena and Reigns initially got great reactions, but there was a significant component of the crowd that didn't think they were ready to be top stars when they were pushed as such. Cody is much further ahead in his career when he comes back to WWE and starts getting that kind of reaction. He's seasoned, he's ready, he has developed a great character and he's at his peak as an in ring performer. Add to that that he had certain "x" factors nobody else has all in one: 1) He left as a guy who protested that Vince's system that most fans didn't like and even help creating an entire new company because of it, so he had that "renegade" feel to him which a lot of people like, but at the same time... 2) ...he left that company and came back, so he also had that "love for WWE" factor a lot of diehards appreaciate. 3) Months into his return, he had that absurd performance in Hell In A Cell with the injured pec. That's a level of passion ad guts nobody can easily forget or overlook. It's Mick Foley level of guts, the one that makes you appreciated and respected by all. 4) He had the "Daniel Bryan/Kofimania Effect" when he was almost screwed out of his main event by backstage politics after a lot of fans felt he was already due that moment the year before and that was taken away from him, which rallied the fans with tons of passion behind him. 5) He's the son of one of the most respected and beloved wrestlers to ever exist, somebody who the fans felt to be "one of their own", and one he shows (sometimes even too much) an incredible amount of love and reverence to. Cody Rhodes is not like anybody else before him, he's a generational babyface. Which doesn't mean people won't turn eventually, because every top, universally loved babyface act becomes stale after a while, but that is a considerably long while if played well. Because people might have a short memory. but true emotional involvement lasts much longer.

One of my biggest gripes with Roman and Cena back in the days was how they were booked to wrestle. They would get dominated for like 85% of the match, and then a comeback and bam, they win. Thing is, we all know that they can go in the ring if they are let to, that's why I think Cody has been much much better presented because he's also allowed to wrestle.

@@leaderofnoone9087 I'd say The Rock more than Austin. Everybody had to crack jokes and act like didn't care about anything. But that's something that The Rock did well because 1) he was genuinely funny in his delivery, like ridiculously entertaining 2) he was over the top and his characte felt like a guy with a ridiculous sense of grandeur that he then back up. Cena and Reigns were not that over the top as character. Cena literally tried to act like "just a guy". But if you're just a guy and all you do is mocking people around you in a childish way, you'll look just like a school bully that never grew up, AS THE TOP BABYFACE. To many young adults and adults that just gets old and annoying fast. Reigns too clearly didn't have that sense of humor they asked him to portray. He has his own, he has shown plenty of it, but much more in a smugh, arrogant heelish way. Cody is serious most of the times, but he can crack jokes when the timing is right and be funny. Especially when he's "outside" the keyfabe bubble. Think about that Jey Uso-Cody press conference. Cody was funny as hell. But it wasn't forced and still felt somehow in character, despite they were really half in character, half shooting. But he can connect emotionally with crowds by being serious. It works much better for him than trying to be The Rock. And that's the thing. You need to book a babyface focusing on his strenghts. Austin wasn't a "tweener" either, he was always the hero of the story and that's who the babyface is. The hero, fighting against the villain. But with Austin, what worked was being the trash talking, mudhole stumping lone wolf. That's what Vince completely lost sight of.

I loved Drew's face turn. I was a massive mark for it. I loved the story of someone who had gotten all these opportunities coming out. I loved that he still had this bit of edge and how much you actually felt he could take down Brock. And I loved that he straight up hulked out. I actually understood the classic babyface appeal watching him, someone who could take damage and then come back from behind. As a result, my friend and I were struggling a bit to fully embrace his heel turn, even as much as I loved the cleverness of the writing and how much Drew always manages to be one of the best kinds of heels which is the heel with an *incredible* point. So many of these people in the bottom half of the three lists are so easy to forget about too, ironically because of how good they are. Like, I didn't even remember Seth versus Drew except for the finish, because I know somewhere in my head it just got sorted as "Drew and Seth have a good match; in other news, water is wet". The same with Chad: It's like, "Oh, Chad's having a match. Well, that'll be fine". It's so funny that people like that need to craft five star bangers to get people remembering them because if they deliver a four star performance we'll think, "Man, they're slipping".

It’s between Will Ospreay, Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre for wrestler of 2024 for me Edit: honourable mentions to Roxane Perez, Gunther and Jey Uso

Roxanne is killing it for sure. Nxt overall deserves praise for their great consistent work. Despite hits and misses here and there I appreciate that effort all across the board exists. Also Oba Femi. I mean he could be on this list in 2025. The Gunther run in nxt as champion. A rumble appearance to be more bad ass.

@@YaBoyEdGames Oba Femi not only could but should be on a list and at top 5 at that, guy went from no one to one of the biggest future stars in wrestling. He didn't have single bad or even average match this year, triple threat at S&D is really strong contender for match of a year, great promo work, guy showed world he has it all despite having only 50 matches in his career.

Hi, from the future here. Last night, Ospreay had two match of the year contenders within the span of 2 hours. Dude is the literal definition of "Generational Talent" and is one of the greatest pick ups by AEW. If hes not World Champ this time next year I would be genuinely surprised.

I get why he’s popular. He’s probably the best in the world at what he does. I just don’t care for it as a style at all, and don’t think what he does is “wrestling” at least not in the fullest sense of that word. And it’s not even the “flippy” stuff I don’t really like - Lucha underground is, and probably always will be my favourite promotion. My issue is really, I have never felt invested in a single one of his matches, and have never brought what he’s selling. His promo work is mid, at best, his character is basically nonexistent, and his in ring storytelling is one-note. He can do moves like no-one else, and some of the sequences he puts together are mind blowing. But as matches, and even more as parts of a bigger story, what he does just doesn’t resonate.

First best of the year, and we start with a perfect score winner. Only 8 repeat names this go round, and one doesn't crack the Top 10 (poor Drew, but that's a testament to the names here). Furthermore, the top 4 dominate, with one midcard and then the surprising dropoff starting with Gunther of all people. 1) Will Ospreay (30) 2) Swerve Strickland (25) 3) Cody Rhodes (24) 4) Bryan Danielson (23) 5) Konosuke Takeshita (15) 6) Gunther (8) 7) Toni Storm (6) 7) Zack Sabre Jr (6) 7) Michael Oku (6) 10) Bron Breakker (4) 10) Willow Nightengale (4) 12) Drew McIntyre (3) 12) Iyo Sky (3) 12) Damian Priest (3)

Honestly i'm very surprised that there's no Joe Hendry in any of your lists. I mean i get it, it's not the best in ring talent in the industry, but for the rise in popularity, and how good of a entertainer he is, i would have put him like on a 9/10 spot, obviously if we are talking about a wrestler as a hole, not only work rates🤷

I wouldn't say getting popular makes you the best wrestler of the year. He's had no truly great matches and his only real storyline all year lasted 5 minutes but felt like an eternity with Top Dolla and friends preventing him from really doing anything of substance. There's also the fact TNA's lack of audience has limited how viral he really is, we all know the song and how it apparently went viral. It has less than 6 million views on KZbin for context things despised and not in a so bad it's good or you need to watch kind of way from WWE like the dog food match with baron and roman or the great khalis debut have over 100mil. Put in that context being around a 20th as popular as angle that's straight up got fans to turn off the TV isn't exactly something you brag about. In terms of within kayfabe and impact he's had on the wider wrestling world, really it feels generous to even call it mid. Hell I'd say it was generous to call this year mid by Hendry's own standards in terms of creativity, what he's achieved and the amount he's been able to do.

Before listening as a slightly above average wrestling watcher top 3 that immediately spring to mind are Cody, McIntyre and Swerve. Danielson, Ripley, Toni storm, reigns, punk (feud of the year) and osprey are the others that come to mind. Sure there will be many that I’ve missed and will be reminded of in here !

Of course it's Will. He's a fantastic babyface. He's excellent on promos and well he's on another level completely in the ring. I'm super happy to see Swerve 2nd. He was outstanding this year. His performance against Danielson at All In was masterful. I have Cody and Bryan tied at three. I can't choose.^^ Happy to see Takeshita in the top 10 too. He's so so good. His match against Will at Revolution is maybe my favorite this year. Drew should have been higher IMHO.

First saw Will Ospreay in what, at first, seemed to be a semi-throwaway match against Martin Kirby for WCPW. Had no idea who this guy was or why the commentators were fawning over him. Didn't even know what the 'Best of the Super Juniors' was. About 15 minutes later, he jobs to Kirby (ultimately triggering Kirby's mega-push to the WCPW title), I'm DEEPLY impressed at his ability, and the match ends up in the conversation of their Top 10 all time matches. Kirby was a solid worker, but Ospreay made him look like a megastar. He makes EVERYBODY look like a megastar.
