I've mentioned variations of this story before but I met Randy in the summer of '78 outside a restaurant in a small Nova Scotia town. He was my hero. I was only 17 and terrified of the "Macho Man". He was super friendly, soft spoken, and not at all like his character. He signed an autograph, I got to look into his van and see all the incredible robes he used to wear during his Atlantic grand prix wrestling days and he shook my hand. My greatest celebrity thrill. There was an older man travelling with him but I didn't find out who he was. Rest in peace Macho!

That’s so crazy, I believe you 100% but it’s just in such stark contrast to the horror stories you hear from fans in his later years. Sam Roberts of Jim and Sam on SiriusXM told a story he had overheard at a wrestling convention years ago like the 00’s decade, and he hears of 2 fans who were like 10-11 years old who found out that Macho lived in their neighborhood a few streets over. They go over there grinning from ear to ear with one even wearing a macho man shirt I believe just to show their big fans. They go to know on his door and he had some home security and he told them to go away, they said they were huge fans and were excited to find out their neighbors and really just wanted to say hi. Macho responded with threading to bring out a shotgun if they didn’t leave his property. Life takes you in many directions.

Warrior was my favorite and in them days as a little kid born in 1980 i was able to tell who was who... all the political shit is just that.. savage was top tier and had his title matches.. he had the title... so what push are we talking about? Oh wait! You mean the hulk hogan title i guess. Like the status rhat hulk had maybe? Well that is just something alittle extra special but really all the greats were Pretty much just under that hulk level an it doesn't matter all that much. Relax macho is an icon!

I was aging out of wrestling in the '80s when I saw Macho do a promo with Mean Gene. He was talking about cleaning up the WWF and he took out a bar of soap and stuck it on Okerlund's jacket pocket. "There now, Mean Gene. Isn't that nice." In that quintessential Macho voice. And I thought, this guy is going places ... and he did.

I might have been around kindergarten age when my Granddaddy took me and my cousin to see the wrestling match at the fire hall in Crowder,Ms. Randy wrestled Jerry Lawler and I remember thinking he was the biggest and scariest fella I had ever seen. They got out of the ring and started chasing each other around the building, and when he ran towards us I ran out to the parking lot. Granddaddy talked about that till the day he died and we would laugh so much about how crazy he was.

@@muhyee294 Nah dude, cut them some slack. They did their hard time in the ring and on the road before wrestling was glorified like it is today. These guys are all bad asses and they picked a career that was hard on them. Back in the day they weren't babied like they are today. They worked hard and played hard. Most of the old school guys got into real fights, not just with each other but with "fans" in the bars and restaurants. Most of them did time in jail too, they were the real deal. Knobs doesn't look good at all but how would you look walking around in pain 24-7? Drinking is the only thing he's prob any good at nowadays. Who's going to hire him? He paid his dues and early in his wrestling career the dude was awesome and a tough guy. Respect the older wrestlers because very soon like they'll all be gone. The wrestlers of today are a bunch of Hollywood actors, not real wrestlers like we had back in the day.

One of the best workers ever (along with Benoit, Hennig, Rude, maybe a handful of others). I really didn't appreciate his raw talent with how larger-than-life his persona was... his antics seemed to overshadow how skilled he really was. I saw an old pre-WWF match of his a while back and I was amazed how much energy he brought to the performance. He could sell his moves so well, and put somebody else over, as well (which is the mark of any truly great wrestler).

My family immigrated from Ireland at the tail end of the troubles. Upon arrival we attempted to participate in "all American" activities baseball and wrestling were the first events I ever attended. We went to see WWF in Philly, Randy was on the card, my father and his 8 children were basically the crowd at ringside, there were hundreds of people and we were the rowdiest in the bunch. Four hours after the event, in the parking lot, standing next to our station wagon this crazy man shouts " hey you kid's" we all turned an it was the Savage One. He stormed up and asked my father " are these your kids" my father nodded. " Well you better watch where you take these little animals, cuz' brother they don't act right" my father laughed he laughed, told us we were nuts and good little solders, he picked on my dad for being a stereotypical Irish man with 8 kid's, it was great. He talked a lot one thing I remember is he commented on our accents but told us we we're welcome and we were Americans now, I loved that guy

Not saying what he did was justified, but I doubt any dude would leave his girlfriend in an environment filled with shady individuals, incredible physiques, alcohol and drugs. Relationships in that way will always be an issue and maybe not even ideal, unless you're a swinger or something. Show me the dude or woman who is not even a little "concerned" about their significant other at times, and I'll show you someone whose significant other is probably fucking the world while you they walk around calling others insecure...

People are saying how much they preferred the Ultimate Warrior over Macho Man but he never had the enduring popularity of MM. Why? I suspect partly because UW had 5% of the personality that MM had. Plus, MM was on the smaller side of the WWF wrestlers, but he still held his own. His matches were enthralling from the moment you heard the Commencement theme music start to the final pin, whether he was slated to win or lose. He was the total package.

@michael Castle Lex Luger said it best in one of these shoots. With the kind of people who are in the wrestling business he would be just as protective. There was a lot of drugs, a lot of alcohol, and a lot of abusive people in that locker room. Just a reminder that Jimmy Snuka worked in the WWF at the same time as Randy. Do you really blame him? I am glad Lex cleaned his shit up, but when Liz got away from Randy she dove head first in to the drugs and alcohol of the WWF and WCW locker rooms, and Lex was one of her enablers. Damn shame.

Look, kicking her in a room is extreme but you’re talking about wrestlers that are on the road, some drugged up, some drunk, some just horny as hell. Look at all the stories these guys have Shawn and sunny, Hunter and Stephanie. Remember Stacy keibler? Would you trust any of those guys alone with her if she was with you? Lord knows how many of those hundreds of female wrestlers Vince poked over the past 3 decades. So, yeah I can see why savage was over protective about her. She was a beautiful woman.
@AnsticePalo
@AnsticePalo 3 жыл бұрын
@@Adam-vs2in Don't forget how incestuous the wrestling business was too. Steve Austin married two women that were married to another wrestler before her. Nancy Benoit was married to another wrestler. You could easily have your wife seduced by some other wrestler while you're busy in the ring every night. Rick Rude said it to Kevin Nash, "Keep your wife away from the business." And he did his best to keep her as far away from it as possible. He may not have been very faithful when on the road, we haven't really heard many rat stories from his perspective, but at least Nash still has the same wife he had when he started in the business.

I find it very sad that wrestlers seem to have no clue how locks work. Searching endlessly for the key hole on the inside of rooms they are in. How do they get out of their hotel rooms. Bathrooms. Their own car. Just sitting there, waiting for someone with a key to let them out...

Macho Man’s jealous behaviour with Liz is understandable to me. Look at it this way, if you were a professional football, baseball, etc..player how would you behave if you had to bring your wife into the locker room day in and day out with these testosterone filled athletes? From all the stories being told wrestlers are the worst.....so I get Macho Man’s behaviour, maybe a little over but I get it.

Testosterone, steroids, pills, cocaine, weed, alcohol, and murderous rage(Snuka). That 80s locker room was fucking frightening when you look back at the number of absolute animals were in there. And we later learned Liz had a love for the pills as she eventually dove head first in to them when she was no longer under the protection of Randy.
