Man imagine if Brock had stayed all the way into the 2000s? He would've had some amazing matches and rivalries and I would've loved for him to be in TNA with Kurt Angle an absolute missed opportunity. This also applies to Stone Cold since Stone Cold regretted not having that match with Lesnar and also he could've had one hell of a rivalry with Eddie Guerrero. Rip Eddie 😢. Just gotta ask what could've been
@meganoobbg33876 ай бұрын
Would he? We know how Batista ended up - his initial success was thanks to the well made Evolution storyline, and him ending Triple H's reign of terror. Unless the WWE managed to pull of a dramatic face turn for Lesnar, like with Batista, Lesnar would have been just another Goldberg. They tried to push many wrestlers of the same archetype like Lesnar - Mason Ryan (the Batista clone), Ryback, Big E, Bobby Lashley, Braun Strowman. None of them lived up.

Stone Cold being told to put over a part-timer like Lesnar is such bull - Vince never dared to force someone like Hulk Hogan to put anyone over. Infact Hulk Hogan got to bury any new wrestler he came across. Why was Stone Cold a "bad guy" for not wanting to put over Lesnar, when he's absolutely in his right not to want to? Triple H beats Lesnar, but for some reason Lesnar gets to beat the Undertaker's streak - this inconsistency and unfairness is why WWE sucks now.

It was Austin's IDEA to lose to Lesnar in 2002. But he wanted to do it on a bigger stage not just on a random Raw episode. And he didn't quit because of that, he quit cuz he had a ton of court dates for hitting his wife at the time. I feel bad for Austin in mid 2002, but am glad he turned things around six or so months after. Good on him to turn over a new leaf like that.

I rarely side with WWE on matters where talent storm out but I feel like with the Austin debacle I would say WWE had it right. Brock Lesnar was their next star and to have Austin take a pin from him would be a statement win. Yeah there was no build but the notion that it was a "money match" they were throwing away, as Austin seemed to see it, wasn't the purpose. It was to move Brock towards being a tentpole for the company and in those situations it's time to know when someone else is being called up and doing right by the business. You could make the same argument about Randy Orton's rise during his "Legend Killer" gimmick. The interactions he had with the legends he was working with wasn't about the matches themselves, it was about what it meant as Orton's vehicle. KotR 2002 was Brock's vehicle and Austin not wanting to take part in that was ultimately selfish. I think the whole "money match" complaint was an excuse less so a criticism. They could have played it off the back of that easy win early on to build to something later but Austin didn't want to hang around to let it play out or try to compromise by putting a longer term plan in place, he just buggered off upon hearing it.
