Who wins in a shoot fight Jesse vs Hogan?? I'm going with Jesse. I also think Jesse is one of the most under rated commentators in wrestling history... Essentially I kinda understand the shit with Vince. Vince is always gunna put his company over, but what was Hogans bitch ass excuse... Of course it was him being the highest paid wrestler and he didnt need or want a union because he was getting paid double the next highest paid guy... And in a small part because of bitch ass Hogan almost 40 years later the WWF/ WWE is still not unionised... Crazy because it is now a billion dollar industry amd still no health insurance or union. Probaly the only billion dollar company where the average salary is probaly half a million for the talent and still no insurance. Think about all the injuries these guys sustain in their careers.

@IhaveaDoghouse

The reason being that the signed a contract stating that they won't compete elsewhere. Your comment shows you clearly don't understand what a independent contractor is. An independent contractor is a self-employed person or entity contracted to perform work for-or provide services to-another entity as a nonemployee. Nothing about them not being able to work elsewhere has anything to do with them being an independent contractor, it's entirely due to the contract that they chose to sign.
@rolliemosley

@@IhaveaDoghouse Regardless of how smart you try to sound. They are the worst athletic contracts that's out there. WCW had good friendly deals. And AEW does too.
@Matt-cr4vv
@Matt-cr4vv Жыл бұрын
The statement that wrestlers are independent contractors because of the contract they choose to sign is absolutely not true. If a WWE contract was ever actually challenged regarding whether or not a wrestler was an independent contractor it wouldn’t have a chance in hell. Every aspect of what an independent contractor actually is is the opposite of how the WWE operates in their relationship with their wrestlers. For example, here is what the IRS says an independent contractor is. “You are not an independent contractor if you perform services that can be controlled by an employer (what will be done and how it will be done). This applies even if you are given freedom of action. What matters is that the employer has the legal right to control the details of how the services are performed. If an employer-employee relationship exists (regardless of what the relationship is called), then you are not an independent contractor and your earnings are generally not subject to self-employment tax.“ This is the exact opposite of how WWE runs. You are only an independent contractor is the employer controls the result of your work - but if they can control when you show up, what you wear, what your behavior is, etc. then you are actually an employee. The WWE controls every aspect of what their wrestlers can do. They have times they have to show up, dress codes, are told what to do in their job, etc. They have no freedom for outside endeavors at all. There is literally no aspect of how they’re treated that aligns with being independent contractors. They’re independent contractors in name alone. The only reason they get away with it is because it’s so difficult to challenge the structure of the contracts for any active talents. If a wrestler wanted to challenge the classification they’d have to be ready to be unable to work and earn a living while they spend large sums of money in legal fees to fight a case that would take years to ever be resolved. And because of that fact the structure has been able to remain in place and probably always will.

Jesse is 100% right about the Independent Contractor, but even though Hogan stooged him to Vince, the union thing wouldn't have worked in Wrestling, especially in the mid 80s. There was simply too few spots, and all the top guys to upper mid-card guys were making more money then they had before, so they weren't going to rock the boat. That's all Vince needed at the time was the top to upper mid carders.

Per the court case laws (read a few), an “Independent Contractor” is one that DOES NOT have to report to anyone, can make their own schedule, come and go as they please, etc., etc., etc!!!! There’s a reason why the word INDEPENDENT is in their first 🤦🏾‍♂️🙄!!!! It’s fcuking LAUGHABLE when i hear about employers trying to abuse this!!!! One court case you should read is Terry v. Sapphire Gentlemen’s Club, 336 P.3d 951 (Nev. Oct. 30, 2014)!!!! In that case, they adopted the “economics reality” test of the Fair Labor Standards Act to determine the difference between “Independent Contractor” and a “Minimum Wage Employee.”

For a midcard to upper midcard guy in the early to mid 1980's you weren't touching 7 figures. If you had an above average year you made $150K. Your best hope was to get on the A shows with Hogan and hopefully work a program with Hogan. $5K for health insurance still doesn't seem like a lot until you factor in Hotel rooms 7 nights per week, car rentals and gas 7 days per week, day passes at the gym everyday, ordering specialty meals at restaurants to maintain a bodybuilders diet, deducting state and federal taxes etc. It all adds up. Then add in the stress that if you get injured the downside guarantee during that period was $250/wk until you got back into the road. Jesse had a point about organizing a Union. On the flip side, Hogan also had a point in not wanting a Union. When you're making $10,000 per night and your opponent is making $1500-$2500 per night, a Union is going to step in and vote to make it so you're both making $2500 per night.

Jesse is full of himself, he didn't co-star in predator... he had 3 lines lol and he definitely didn't help wrestlers make better money. Hulk did more for wrestlers than anyone, Hulk was the 1st to get guaranteed contracts, merchandise rights and character control and other wrestlers were able to get those things because of Hulk. Jesse is just jealous of Hulk because he was a lot more talented and successful and Jesse can't admit it.

@@johnedwin6803 Wrong, Hulk and Jesse both copied Superstar Billy Graham but Hulk was a baby face who always had the crowds support while Jesse was a heel. They were both big and blonde but Hulk was bigger and better than Jesse.

No, Hogan said the union thing would have messed up the money he was making. The WWF guys were making more money than anyone else, because of hogan. Toys, toons, network pay, etc. After hogan many of them did TV and movies plus commercials

Ask jesse about platos retreat and the wife swapping, ask jesse how he showed up with 100 quads and loods in his pocket in San Francisco he pissed himself and didn’t change his clothes for 4 days. Jesse had 30 years to embellish his Navy Seals stories. Jesse is a old crotchety man who couldn’t kick his own ass brotheeer!! Ask jesse about japan, when he was on a main event card, japan never asked him to come back. Jesse was the shits brotheeeer!

John Cena the rock and Steve Austin are all going to vote to unionize who have made millions off of the business? Really? The wrestlers who won to unionize the mid Carter’s and the curtain checkers they can simply tell them to go pound sand and fire them they’re not even moving the needle in the business so I do not plan on seeing a union in the wrestling industry anytime soon
