A lot of comes from lack of understanding shooting I think. Many get disappointed that their telegraphed first shoot is failed, but i think we should expect its failure. Fake more, do more snaps distractions, know when to give up on legs and go for upper body, reshoot

Is there a way to spar this lightly, similar to striking: give and take sparring, or would you drill a lot and then move to full sparring? Maybe have one partner try to stand up and the other take him down? Just trying to understand the process, many thanks! Unfortunately we don’t have wrestling in our high schools in my country. Awesome video
@WrestlingUniversity7 күн бұрын
Start slow and work your speed up to live sparring. Do your best to work in 10% increments. Start at no resistence, then 10%, 20%, etc. But since your partner knows this is the move you're attempting, it will be very difficult to hit fully 100% live. You can try, but best to attempt on someone who doesn't know that's the move you're going for.

how about a video on how to take down smaller people :D I'm a tall person, alsmost always larger and taller than anyone. Getting to the legs is even more difficult for me because they're further down. I hate shooting on smaller people aka all people I train with. There're tons of videos on how to take down larger opponents, but not smaller ones.
@The_Honest__User8 күн бұрын
@@johannesd.492 it's the same for me, when I try, almost 100% of the time it is uncomfortable to get that down, I'm also the tallest in my gym. I looked up everywhere but there isn't a single video I found to help tall people like us with takedowns 😅, let me know if you find some please.

As a very new white belt, really enjoyed the video, definitely have (or had, after watching this) "I had shooting syndrome" as I managed to get cauli in my first month or two of BJJ from whacking my ear into people. One thing I'm not 100% sure I understand is why we would switch the grip once we have the leg raised. Is it to free up the outside arm to pull your opponent?
@J-J-Jude10 күн бұрын
Awesome video. Poor shots and getting guillotined are the curse of bjj. I’m tall and skinny and don’t like trying to drop low to get in on shorter guys. Will be putting this all into practice this week!
@Verloren6 күн бұрын
Another thing I've noticed is that jiujitsu guys take the front step forward, but their rear leg stays behind. Initial forward momentum is there, but moving that back leg forward means the center of gravity is further forward and through the back of the opponent.

I sort of accidentally taught myself not to use shooting takedowns, because since it was what people used on me from very young, I had already trained several effective counters for them, thus ruining the mental image of how effective they can be in general. Gonna start using the single snatch

maybe in the UK its different, but at competitions and also in my traning gym BJJ people often start a match with their posture low and sort of closer to a squat rather then upright. Could be just me but ive yet to encourage a BJJ guy who isnt scared of a single or double leg. for me having a low postuire against me just makes the match drag on because i legit just dont know where to go from there, they lower their centre of gravity and then just constantly defend and wait for a mistake,
