What's up dude. It's me, the guy who's gatekeeping your channel from everyone because every video you post is absolute GOLD. SOLID FREAKIN GOLD MAN. There is so much attention to detail in every video. The format is simple, easy to follow and the concepts/drills here are applicable instantly. You really have a rich well of knowledge and a serious gift for passing that knowledge on to a scrub like me. And that's precisely why I can't let anyone see your channel, it's too good and too valuable 😂

Thank you I am a parent of a 7yr old that just started wrestling. Your videos are helping a lot. I have not wrestled in the past so this is new to me.

Sadly, you’re not alone. Most bjj gyms completely ignore the standing position. That’s actually why I created the channel so I’m glad you’re enjoying it 😊

It's pretty dumb to fight on the street, keep it on the mats 😊

@@cesaralvesdemoraes3187 yeah I agree it's dumb. I avoid fights as much as possible. So many variables in the streets so not worth it unless your life is in danger.

Great videos! "Putting laces on the mat" while sprawling or doing the drop step shoot is tearing up the skin on the tops of my feet. Anyone know how to prevent this?
@WrestlingUniversity
@WrestlingUniversity Жыл бұрын
Over time I find the skin adjusts and calluses. I used to get crazy scabs even on the sides on my feet, but now the exact same movements cause no marks. When I take time off from grappling I lose the callus pretty quickly though just a heads up.
@Sam-tg6ee
@Sam-tg6ee 2 жыл бұрын
Ok I understand all of the movements but I have a question. When do you know when to use each defense? Like how do you know whether to downblock or sprawl?
@WrestlingUniversity
@WrestlingUniversity 2 жыл бұрын
Use head defense first, if your opponent gets by that use the down block, if opponent gets by that, sprawl. 1) head 2) hands, as in down block 3) hips, as in sprawl. Let me know if that doesn’t clear things up. Stay scrappy brother 🤼‍♂️

@@WrestlingUniversity I would love to see more uploads from you. I recently joined an MMA gym and had my first wrestling lesson the other day, it really opened my eyes to the physicality that is required in wrestling. It sucked a lot and I was fully gassed after the warm up drill where we were just doing basic push and pulls with our partners - basically got ragdolled around. It would be great if you could do a beginner friendly video/series on the fundamentals when starting wrestling e.g. which drills to prioritize and nail down, conditioning tips & tricks etc... Personally as someone getting into wrestling with no previous grappling background I'll find these sorts of videos really helpful. Anyways, I want to thank you for your concise and high quality videos I love the way you teach and explain what you're doing and the reasons for doing so. Keep up the great work!

@@WrestlingUniversity gotcha man, thanks a lot. Got a question if you don’t mind. I’m curious how I can use my long arms to my advantage. I am 6’1 with the wingspan of somebody who is like 6’6. Got any tips? I am a first year junior in hs :/
@WrestlingUniversity

@@edmundddd awesome you’re getting into wrestling it’ll give you a great edge with your mma. I actually designed this video series for beginners, look at the description you’ll see they’re labeled 1-12. Start at “wrestling stance basics” and work your way up. Each video feeds into the next. I give drilling instructions and everything. Best of luck!
@WrestlingUniversity
@WrestlingUniversity 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sam-tg6ee brother that’s a massive advantage. When it’s your first year the basic fundamentals are all you need to worry about, but down the road just know cradles, ankle-picks, and leg riding from top position are all great offensive picks for you.
