One thing I always think of with this show is in the buildup when Jim Ross promoted that the show was promoted by the game Glover. Hearing Jim Ross say the game's tagline "Gotta love the glove" in NitroRad's review of that game is actually why I nominated this show.

I was rewatching RAWs from 1998 last year in honor of their 25th anniversary. It's a night-and-day difference between how strong the Nation started the summer of 1998 and how rapidly they fizzled out after SummerSlam. It was evident by the end of that summer that The Rock was becoming an increasingly bigger fish in an increasingly smaller pond (The Nation). To be honest,1998 was such a paradigm shift for the company that I think you could split it into three mini-eras. Those thirds have their own vibe. *Pre-Wrestlemania XIV. *Post-Wrestlemania through Summerslam *Post-Summerslam
@cyrus254617 сағат бұрын
The loss of main eventers were severely felt in 1998. The absence of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Sycho Sid was felt big time. It felt like every main event after WM14 was some combination of Steve Austin, Mankind, Undertaker and Kane. This was somewhat eleviated by the Rock becoming a main eventer by November but Vince refusing to bring Ken Shamrock into the main event was a mistake on my opinion.

I think the main reason that the PPVs of 98 and '99 tend to be underwhelming is that the roster was still pretty thin. You had a lot of star power and spectacle on the upper card, and definitely there wasn't a lack of flair, let's say, to the mid card and lower card acts, but they just weren't conducive to having great matches. On this PPV alone, you had the Oddities, the JOB squad, and the headbangers all having long matches. It wouldn't be until later '99 and then going in 2000 that you got more talent to flesh out the PPVs beyond the main event matches like The Dudleys, The Radicalz, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle and the emergence of teams proper like Edge and Christian, and the Hardy Boyz and so on.
