The fact that the Earthquake could drop kick a 6' plus man and sell the clothesline by getting himself parallel with the matt is impressive. Earthquake was actually a great worker and exciting to watch. If you pay attention you can see how respectful and careful he was with his opponents. He knew he could really hurt someone with all that weight if something went wrong, but he really was always careful.

Earthquake and Yokozuna are, to this day in my opinion, the 2 safest working big men in wrestling history (outside of Andre, who always took care of his opponents unless he hated them).
@joem.8277
@joem.8277 9 ай бұрын
@@danc3488 I have heard from Bret Hart and Demolition that Bam Bam Bigelow and One Man Gang were also very safe workers. Can you imagine the damage those men could have done if they botched a power slam or a splash? Also, you are right about Andre, albeit Andre did not permanently hurt people, he just made his point. Bobby the Brain Heenan would tell a story about Andre punching the Ultimate Warrior because the Warrior would "potato" him with his clothesline. Also, Andre would fart on his opponents, and actually shit on Bad News Brown. And according to BBN, it was not just a little bit.

@@jbfarley Is that how crimes work? Lol. If you weren't there at the crime scene, you have no business saying what happened?! Well the victim's dead, that leaves only the killer and he says it wasn't a murder so seeing as he's the only one who was actually there...we'll have to take his word for it! "You weren't there" - Good Lord, the logic! And while you're right that very few fans knew about it at the time, there _were_ newsletter subscribers (e.g. The Observer, The Torch) who could have been following the story but their numbers were far fewer than today. Anyway, Slap was obviously just joking.
@TeemoQuinton

@@RiC_David I mean to this day I still doubt that he murdered her. Murder is a big thing, we often joke about "Manslaughter" but there is a big difference in it not just legally but also in actual definition. Without a doubt Snuka was responsible for her death but in no way do I think there was ever a case nor enough evidence for it to be called murder. Manslaughter, yes. Just call him a killer, it's more apt and more realistic. Manslaughter - noun - the crime of killing a human being without malice aforethought, or otherwise in circumstances not amounting to murder. Murder - noun - the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another.

You might not be able to tell but in the original broadcast the crowd was CLEARLY behind Sid in the argument with Hogan. Hogan got booed for costing Sid the match. In the context of the Royal Rumble match Sid did *nothing* wrong in eliminating Hogan. If you're distracted and get eliminated its your own fault. And the crowd knew it too.

hogan was already getting the cena treatment at the time anyway. it wasn't as severe, but there were a good portion of the crowd that were tired of hogan.

@thomasjenkins7506 4 жыл бұрын
@@anthonymatis2977 the WWF crowd was never fully (or ever over 50%) anti-hogan during his first run, but people did start to move away from hogan during his feud with the ultimate warrior. this was also about the time people started cheering more for anti-heroes than white meat faces like hogan.
@OptimumTaurus

@@thomasjenkins7506 is correct. Hogan"s schtick had gone pretty much unchanged since '84 and crowds had been wanting something different. I think this was the first truly major backlash against Hogan resulting in real boos. With Warrior crowds were split but THIS made him look like a sore loser.

This was my first Royal Rumble I watched as a child and I never realised half of what Piper was saying for obvious reason but my mother always loved him and was laughing at it and I never understood why. Until years later as a family we watched it again and I couldn't believe he actually said that stuff... my mother still loved him was kind of a nice memory to watch it all together as adults to share memories. The whole thing remains one of my favourite all time Rumbles not just from a nostalgic point of view but the Rumble itself told a great story and felt truly epic and I didn't realise until years later it was also the first one to have any real meaning since the winner didn't even get a title shot as a result until the following year.

This was one of the few PPV's I was able to get when I was growing up (11 years old) as we didn't have the money to get them very often even though there were only 4 a year. One of my favorite Heenan moments from this show is during the LoD/Disasters match in which he tries to call someone over to go in the back and try to find out Flair's entry number to which Monsoon calls over security to get the guy out of there. Also, it's interesting to note that at this point, people were starting to grow tired of Hogan's shtick which is why Sid got such a big pop when he tosses him from the match. In subsequent replays throughout the following weeks though, Vince would have the footage edited from the crowd reaction to having new lines recorded by Heenan and Monsoon.

The shoot reason for Mountie beating Bret for the IC Title was that according to the Wrestling Observer, Bret believed his WWF contract was up, and was talking a guaranteed contract with WCW. The plan was to have Bret debut at Clash of the Champions 18 two days after this PPV, possibly with the IC Title (as retaliation for Flair bringing the NWA/WCW World Title onto WWF programming). Bret's contract, however, had rolled over and he was unable to give notice. His 2007 autobiography "Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling" confirmed the Observer's notes about the plan to lose the belt to Mountie, only for him to regain it from Piper at WrestleMania 8, but made no mention of agreeing to a WCW deal at that point in time.
