So the story goes, WWE originally considered the idea of implementing MMA-style rules for the Brawl for All, but they would have had state athletic commissions stepping in to enforce policies thus that was nixed. Then they thought they could do some sort of kickboxing variant of it. But realizing Steve Blackman was planning to milk knee kicks for the tournament (and could likely pull them off considering his martial arts training), WWE didn't want a good chunk of their roster being crippled by Steve and changed it to the boxing variant milked throughout Summer 1998.

Tokeslokos a Main Eventer by definition is someone who is at the top of the card. The word you’re defining is a draw. Plus, your logic is flawed when you talk about attendance and ratings being down and Brock Lesnar being a draw when he is literally the WWE Champion right now. How would you blame attendance and ratings on the Women’s Champion and not the WWE Champion? Please think more logically.

Bart Gunn won the tournament and was resoundingly buried for it. They or Jim Ross at least wanted Dr Death to win and when he didn't, they basically looked the other way as if none of it happened and jettisoned Bart right off TV. When WM15 rolled around they decided to throw him right under a bus by sticking him in there with a skilled boxer, hell I believe some of them even knew he'd get slaughtered. Brawl For All was a petri dish of backstage politics and bruised egos played out on weekly television.

Something to keep in mind is just how weird the rules were. It was basically a mix of Toughman-style boxing and amateur wrestling. There was no ground-fighting, but a grappler could still win by spamming takedowns on his opponent, provided the takedowns were "clean" (Whatever that meant). The gloves also had more padding than what they normally use in boxing, which I think made both punching and grappling a bit awkward for everyone. Just seems like weird conditions to try to fight under.

Reason they never did much after Brawl for All for Bart Gunn is because Jim Ross HATED him for knocking out Dr.Death Steve Williams. That's why Dr.Death buried Bart Gunn after the Brawl for All and Bart Gunn didn't do anything afterwards... except for that fight with Butterbean. Ross wanted to bury Bart Gunn and kill his career, so he contributed to the idea of Gunn going against Butterbean with very little prep time. Also, Severn was taken out since they didn't want him beating Dr.Death.

Neither Steve Williams' nor Bart Gunn's careers ended at these points. Williams would remain in the WWF for another year feuding with Hardcore Holly and Tiger Ali Singh, he feuded with Vampiro in WCW from late 1999 into 2000 and would wrestle in NJPW for another 3 years. Bart Gunn would also have a fairly successful run in NJPW for 3 years after the infamous Butterbean boxing match.

There used to be one in the UK that would get on the BBC that was submission wrestling. Basically Olympic Style Freestyle wrestling in a ring. A Hart competed in the 80s, either one of Bret and Owen's brothers or cousin but there was a connection. This was the BBC's answer to Joint Productions on ITV with Big Daddy, Kendo Nagasaki and Giant Haystacks (Loch Ness in WCW) actually you should look at British wrestling of the 70s and 80s. Not least Adrian Street who is probably the most important wrestler you have never heard of.
