I’m from London. The game of thrones reference is paramount - I’ll explain why. Rinse and Deja Vu were hugely important pirate radio stations that were in London in the early 2000s - this was the peak of the grime era. Wiley is the pioneer and widely regarded to be the king of Grime. Wretch 32 started coming in the game, like many other olders in our scene as a grime MC and the standard was so much higher back then, you really were tested in every mic session and in every grime set if you wanted to remain on top. These were the days before KZbin was really a thing, so music was mostly heard on the pirate radio (which was illegal for a long while too btw) and many of these MC’s had to go in person to CD shops to sell their tapes and CD’s. Jousting to be king, at least to my understanding means him explaining all the work that he really had to do to get to where he is today.
