Bad news is max is out for October. Basically 9 games on 31 days. The back line will be under stress. Midfield has been weak last 2 matches. Cannon is active but is it active with a purpose? Idk. I’d like to see revan or evans in that roll. Lee will need a break soon but only a revan type player could fill that roll. I can see revan in for Lee and Mullin in for Marriott Tuesday

Good stuff again. The Orient point will look a good one by the end of the season. Tough week ahead. Suspect the defensive change we’re going to be forced into may undo us at Stevenage and make Northampton a sight trickier than it ought to be. This period is shaping up a little like January to March last season and I’ve a nagging feeling both the next two games are ones we could easily come out of with nothing. On what I’ve seen so far, I’ve not been convinced by Scarr or Brunt but I’d definitely not move O’Connell over to the right as he’s weaker there so, ideally and on balance, I’d bring Brunt in rather than Scarr. On the other hand, if we were to finally see sense and drop McClean, I’d say to compensate for the lack of leadership in the spine of the team, then yeah, probably Scarr. Neither are a perfect fit as neither like coning out with the ball in the way Max always has. Cannon didn’t look fully fit Saturday but Dobson has also been poor these past few games. I’d stick with Cannon but seriously consider Jonah in for Dobson. I’d probably start with Bolton on the right too on Tuesday; give Barney a well-earned break, and use him as a sub. Starting Bolton also helps Palmer continue up front with Marriott as Bolton tends to run much further into the box before releasing the ball. Welsh Cup thing is interesting. All previous efforts have foundered less on Cymru Premier opposition and more because of lack of FAW and FA support. The fact one is helping lead on this and there are zero voices at the FA dismissing it out of hand I think suggests we’re in a very different place now and this may happen. Whilst the European nights were fantastic - Anderlecht and Porto away were personal faves - I suspect the real attraction will be as it always was i.e. the chance to play other Welsh clubs and be in contention for a trophy. Europe was great but it was always the bonus. Beating Cardiff, Jester or the Slops was always way more on the radar.

The singing of Wrexham was amazing. I really think it gave the boys that extra boost.

I think this would be a good thing, because while the team is quite deep and well-rounded, its ”ceiling” is probably lower than early season suggests. Promotion is far from sure bet. Judging by recent performance the team likely had a bit of a surprise advantage, was very well geled, with good pre-season. Opponents have adapted. Still the good thing is if you play like a title contender for 8 games, you can muddle a bit and make the play-offs. But it’s play-offs and Wrexham doesn’t really outclass top teams in player quality. Hence extra money, exposure and prestige is a good thing - in case we fail to promote.

I think we have been punching a bit anyway as I'm sure you'd agree. We have bought some championship quality/experienced players who need to be given some time now to be introduced and start turning us from a team that defends well but is creating very little going forward, relying on some moments of quality to win us a few games. We do need to get a hold of the ball and keep it better which is something we are not doing. It's one thing getting the results we have done, and Its been a fantastic start in that regard but its a long old season and we cannot be relying on the lack of possession and control of the game for the rest of it. I'd still be happy with top 10 this season, with a late push for playoffs maybe. Clearly we'd be short for the Championship with the current squad but if we did go up, we'd have a summer transfer window that could help with that if we did manage it. It's all good, Parky knows we need a good squad for when players get injured and I think the team will look very different in the latter part of the season.

I 100% agree, that we should compete in the Welsh cup as the EFL cup is out of our reach and realistically, it would boost the profile of all welsh teams as we get to play against the likes of TNS. I am curious to find out how competitive they are.

It'd be a wild card into the Welsh EFL Cup. The FA won't allow clubs to compete in both the FA Cup and the Welsh Cup.

I can see a scenario playing out where Welsh teams would need to give up their FA Cup spot if they voted to play in the Welsh Cup for the lucrative European football. Same sentiment, can't have both 🤷
@BruceMcFarling2 ай бұрын
Rather, they'd give up their FA cup qualification into the Europa League if they raise the cup, it would fall into the PL runner-ups, giving an additional Europa League spot there. As far as "having both", that's why it's organized around Welsh League Cup wildcards, not around the Welsh Cup. Can only participate in one Association Cup, and the Welsh EFL clubs would never give up the FA Cup ties. As far as not being allowed to have another Cup competition that gives entry to Europe, the FA have already given up that position when the last Conference League place was given to the Carabao Cup.

Wales might be at the level that gets 3 direct Conference League places next season, but it can easily lose that. With this move, the UEFA rating will surely climb, where the Welsh league clubs would have one assured sport for the Champion and all Welsh clubs (except the EFL ones) have a path to Europe through the Welsh Cup. If the coefficient climbs high enough, the Cup winners might enter into the Conference at Q2.
@BruceMcFarling2 ай бұрын
And looking at the level of competition in the qualifying round of the Conference and the number of UEFA Coefficient points available, climbing high enough so that holding the four spots is assured seems close to certain, climbing high enough to get the Welsh Cup winner straight into the 2nd round of qualifying is a reasonable hope, and climbing high enough so that the Welsh Cup winner gets into the Europa playoffs is a serious possibility.

Happy clapper comments on the Women's team. The formula to beat them in now clear. Attack their slow, short, poor passing left back then wear out the balance of the back line and wait for the goals to come. Can someone arrange for the Fat Boar Group to feed Brooke Cairns burgers and pints until she doesn't blow over either when the wind blows, or a challenge comes? How many more head injuries does Keren Allen need until before she gets to wear head protection? And what went wrong with Louisha Doran's surgery?

@BruceMcFarling2 ай бұрын
And if the League Cup is the last spot (like the FA Cup / Carabao Cup), if the sides winning the League Cup grab enough coefficient points, it will lift the Welsh Cup winner into the Europa League qualifiers, where the Conference League qualifier bracket is still there as a safety net ... or straight to Conference League play if dropping down from the Europa League playoffs.

I remember when FAW banned the teams from Europe qualification and the arguments around it. Since then only TNS this year qualified for any farther than the qualifiers before they get bounced. (League phase of the Conference league) I think it is absolutely needed. I get it puts some off because it is those English clubs coming in but in 30 years we really have not been able to get the Cymru league to a place where we can see European games at a serious level. At the end of the day more teams getting that chance will be better for the overall health of Cymru's football. I love the CPL but it needs this if it is going to progress beyond a Northern Ireland level of competition. (sorry NI). I am not sure though at present whether this does exclude them from representing in the Champions League or Europa League in the English Pyramid then will there be additional ways for them to reach that level? I am guessing not on the Champions League at least. I am assuming if Wrexham is in that competition they will likely not compete in Caraboa or FA cup?
@BruceMcFarling2 ай бұрын
The reason to note that Welsh Clubs eligible for Europe through the Welsh League Cup couldn't gain access to Europe through English competition is that if Wrexham is in that competition, it WILL compete in the EFL Cup and the FA Cup, but if it wins either, that won't place it in the Conference League or Europa League (respectively). Continuing to compete in the FA Cup and EFL Cup is the point of it being the Welsh League Cup, rather than the FAW Cup. The FA can say that Wrexham can't compete in the FA Cup if they compete in the cup of a different nation's Association. And they seem likely to do so. But what league cups Wrexham plays in isn't really it's business. And the FA can say that Wrexham cannot represent England in any of its EUFA places if it is competing for a place in Europe through a Welsh cup. So the plan appears to be designed to go along with that. And the EFL COULD say that Wrexham can't compete in the EFL Cup or Trophy if it competes as a wild card in another cup competition ... but it won't, because it is too interested in having participation in those competitions, because they are primarily Made for TV competitions and losing Welsh clubs from the competitions is not good for TV ratings. The simple way to avoid conflict with Champion League places is to restrict it to Welsh clubs in the EFL or National League. What's needed then from UEFA is permission that if a Welsh EFL/NL club wins the FA Cup or EFL Cup, the European spot goes into the appropriate PL club in the runner-up queue. Just as important as the upgrading in Wales rating is the help it gives the Cymru domestic clubs if the League Cup is better backed and if there are bigger domestic ties in the League Cup. The way it leads to the Europa league is by getting the League Cup designated as the primary domestic cup, and getting the rating up to 33rd place (Republic of Ireland level), where the domestic Cup winner goes to the Europa League. The big argument against that is that it disrespects the Welsh Cup. So one approach would be to cross that bridge when Wales comes to it, at which point it will have been the League Cup winners that have gained the bulk of the ratings points leading to the position, so the argument that it should be the League Cup winners going into the Europa League would have a lot more weight with performances behind it rather than at present, when it is just expectations. Also, the benefits of the revenue to the FAW & domestic sides will be experienced results rather than expected ones.
