I was a small boy living there in the late40's and both early and later 50's. The place still fills my dreams, but this is not the way I remember it. My aunt had a stall in the market, and I still recall very clearly the smell of fruit and vegetables, and feel the slippery cabbage leaves underfoot, and hear the hustle and bustle of this once-great little town. I lived in Bertie Road with my nain and taid, and then, later, Lea Road with my mum....

Wrexham looks better in your film that it does in real life sadly. There are some great buildings but the council need to do something about filling all the empty shops, preferably with decent independent businesses. Try visiting Oswestry - lovely little town. Thank you.

Beautifully filmed, Wrexham has changed so much over the years, gosh I remember packed streets in the 80s and 90s. These days it feels a little bit like a ghost town. There are some great community led organisations keeping the town afloat, not to mention our education institutions. There is hope for the town. -hopefully they will let you explore the secret underground tunnel system next time. 😀

Looking at the comments on here, there's a lot bashing the place. It might not be as BUSY in the town centre these days as it once was, but where is now? It's all on-line shopping with Amazon & the likes now, the town centre's can't compete anymore. But the one thing that almost all people who come here now agree with, is the friendliness of the locals! My cousin who lives down south, comes up here 2-3 times a year and ALWAYS stays in a hotel in the centre - despite family offers to put him up - because he just loves that about the place....people just say Hi and chat. You never get that in the big cities!

So many barber shops! I guess walking reasonably early in the morning is good as the ratbags are still in bed! Interesting to see the old Odeon gone, Hippodrome gone, the Horseshoe Inn gone. I believe several shopping centres have been built over the last 40 years on the periphery of the town. That works for the large chain stores but can take the life out of the town. There used to be weekly markets and beats markets regularly. I guess, they also used to be an Army Barracks, coal mines and steel works which are all gone as well! Is there a local industry now?

All the towns in N Wales, and you picked Wrexham?! It used to be a proud, busy town centre with plenty of life, a real buzz and some lovely buildings. Sadly, the last couple of decades have seen it turn into an ugly ghost town which has had the life sucked out of it by years of incompetent planning decisions.

@@ryan010able Wrexham has things going on - but it's Wrexham, and I wouldn't want to live there. Mold has some decent pubs and restaurants, a theatre, a few gigs and things going on, but not really as vibrant. Forget Buckley, forget Flint! (Although Buckely has the Tiv which is great if you like going to see bands.) Holywell is a small town, but getting better as a place to live - not what you'd call vibrant though. Rhyl is a total sh!thole, full of people you definitely wouldn't want to live anywhere near. Llandudno is lovely, very busy, but a bit more of a mature crowd if you see what I mean! Nice place to live though. Ruthin is a bit like Mold but quieter. Denbigh is like a slightly nicer Flint! Bangor has gone downhill a bit in recent years, but there's a large student population so it's quite a vibrant small city with things going on. Quite honestly, I'd be looking right over in the north east - near enough to the rest of North Wales to be able to take advantage of the beautiful places to be found there, but close enough to Chester (a few miles drive) or Liverpool (under an hour on the train) which are where you'll find loads of gigs, events and other things happening. Basically you're not going to find anywhere up here which has anything like the lively vibe of Cardiff (which is somewhere I love going, to be honest) - but on the whole it's a much nicer end of Wales to live!

Can't believe you didn't see a single spice zombie in a shop doorway. This town once used to be full of shoppers and really busy streets. Especially Hope street, the main street (paved-no vehicles) which you missed out as you crossed under the arch. It's been euthanized between a useless council, Amazon etc and the massive useless ugly biggest waste of money white elephant "eagles meadow". I sold local newspaper 1981 age 11 outside the Gas Showroom (now co-op shop) trinity Street and it was hectic from the footfall from buses. I used to then sell to most of the shops (the lovely girls 😃 in Richardson female clothing store) and all pubs and again it really was so busy. Now it's bookies, boarded up shops, pubs, cafe bars, pizza 🍕 and kebab shops. Anyone remember the Monday cattle market 🐑 🐖 🐄. And the great Monday market. Used to get up 4.30am to go and help set up the stalls (curtain stall) then take em down after school for a whopping £5. £10 for the day if you wagged school (diving under stall as the wag man was on the prowl 🤣). It's now replaced by that ugly concrete jungle. There's nothing there that can't be on hope Street except the cinema and bowling. Which could have been situated in the town. Minus the scandalous price parking. I guess it's the price we pay in many towns for the ease of armchair shopping & next day delivery. Still it's sad to see the demise of the town. Whats the answer to it though ... 🤔.
@thetruthwillout90942 жыл бұрын
They must have been lining up in the chemists at the time for their daily fix of methadone. The Monday market used to be brilliant. Like yourself, I used to go down early as a kid to get myself a job to get some pocket money. I used to also help out in the cattle market during the school holidays. Wrexham used to be brilliant but full of smackheads and useless councillors now that won't do anything apart from line there own pockets ( and I could name one or two). Proper shame.
