Regardless of the imperfections, and they're just that, these are by far the best wrenches you own, and WELL WORTH the price. Edit: Those imperfections are probably simply because their tooling is older than the others.

@jefftovani5535 the issue isn't thr chrome, it's a couple nicks in the metal from the broach. The chrome is layered over top do nothing will corrode.

Jeff, I’ve had the satin Wrightgrip 2.0 for years and they’re indestructible. The lack of polish in an area that doesn’t contact the fastener is one of the ways they keep the cost down. The wrenches are heavier than most, stronger than most and you can truthfully take a 3/8 bolt and snap the head right off with the open end. At $300 per set, they come in over $800 less than Snap On and about on par with Proto ASD and Williams Supercombination.

They are tanks and get the job done pretty much better than any others. Great wrenches for actual work but they aren’t pretty. Then again I went with the satin finish because I wanted some texture so they don’t slip out of my hands as easy.

Wright is my absolute favorite tool brand. Those Grip 2.0 are well known as the best combination wrench on the market, especially in industrial environments. I'll bet those are factory seconds that weren't polished completely on the inside of the ends. That price is just too good for that set. The regular price is over $200 for that set, normally. I bet they'd still outperform any other brand wrench in those drawers. I will own a set one day.

@@jefftovani5535thanks Jeff. I actually think the open end doesn't matter much in the throat. As long as the biting surfaces are smooth where they should be...... the reason I don't mind, is because the inside of the jaws will get scratched in use. So even perfect chrome won't be perfect for long. In testing on KZbin, these are among the best, with snapon flank drive plus, proto anti slip, carlyle non-slip and icon .
@jefftovani55357 ай бұрын

As someone else already mentioned, having looked mine over more closely now, I believe its that the base of the jaw isn't polished as well. Maybe I'm off about that though. As to the open end you're right that it's the design that makes fasteners sit funny. What you'll notice when turning it all the way one way or the other is that the flat of the hex sits (or should sit) parallel with the teeth; that allows them to do what they do, in addition to acting a little like a wedge to keep the wrench on there. Everyone always bangs their drum about off-corner loading and they're typically talking about the box end, stuff like this and the Snap-on Flank Drive Plus bring that style of loading to the open end, where a typical wrench will touch two opposite corners of the hex. It may not look it because it's a gap of like 0.1 or 0.2mm, but anything besides perfect fitment will have the wrench loading the corners and not the flats.

I have the chrome set 8-22, no skips. I paid $220. My chrome is also impeccable. Don't know about the set you received. The thicker open end is gonna be stronger in this case. So I'd pay more for the extra material over a super fancy finish. Lipstick on a pig type thing. Polished vs Satin is about a $10 difference. Satin isn't pretty. It's about function as long as the chrome doesn't flake off and cut you. Finish isn't a deal breaker for me for a USA made tool with a lifetime warranty and long history in this country.

Another great review! Your honesty is greatly appreciated! I think Amazon is nothing more than an on line flea market that consists of multiple independent vendors. This particular vendor may have procured a lot of factory blems from Wright. It's not uncommon for manufacturers to sell off items with cosmetic defects that do not affect performance, at a discounted price. The fit of these Wright wrenches is spot on and that is more important than the overall appearance. Even though the Chinese produced Duratech open ends look nicer, the Wrights will out perform them in the end. With heavy use the wrenches will become dull and scratched up anyhow.

I have a polished set and a satin finish set of the 2.0 and I love them. If I had to narrow my tool box down to one set of wrenches I would have to keep my wright 2.0 they are definitely a good wrench. I have the bigger sets so I don't have any skips in sizes. Jeff you are right about the open end it could be a little better. My 19mm doesn't look as bad as the set you have but it does have the same thing going on. I am a fan of that satin finish I like the way they look. The open end on my satin set looked better than my polished set. If a person was looking for a set of wrenches that is beefy, strong and bites really good this is the set. If a person is looking for a set of wrenches with a flawless finish this is not the set for them. One thing is for sure my friend at the end of the day people work hard for their money and they want what they like and if a person doesn't like this set of wrenches you have given them plenty of options to look at and help them with making a decision on what to purchase. Im glad you did this series my friend it should help a lot of people.

Thanks for saying Chamfer instead of Camphor. A Camphor tree is indigenous to warm temperate to subtropical regions of East Asia, including countries such as China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Korea, and Japan. That is why you have not seen it. Norway spruce are nice trees. If you are high enough (above 1500 feet) try some Noble firs. PS, I live next to the second largest Christmas Tree farm in Oregon. They use Helicopters to pick-up the bundles of cut trees and load them in high side dump trucks for transport to the wrapping and shipping area. Lots of different firs around me but low elevation so no Nobles on this farm. Nice to see US made tools. I'm sure they function just fine.

Can't wait for the give away of the combo wrenches. Have you ever tried Toptul sockets or wrenches? They are the house brand for Rotar in Taiwan. They make a bunch of stuff for other brands. Kind of hard to come by, one USA vendor (JM Tool) and one Canadian that I can find. I also have some of their screwdrivers, but they are fine but aren't outstanding. I don't have their wrenches but I have a full set of sockets, shallow and deep in metric. Sold my Snap-On in 1/4" drive once I had these. Excellent price on nice socket sets.

I get it, but to spend extra time in areas that don't matter would bring the price up even higher into Snapon territory for an industrial tool line and people would complain about the price. Again I understand the complaint, but if you compare them with wrenches from our other domestic industrial tool brands PROTO and William's you might have a better idea of what should be expected. You would probably find minor cosmetic compromises across the board. I don't have the wrenches yet, but they are on my list. What I do have is a full range of 1/4 sockets and multiple ratchets, as well as ratchets and sockets from the 70's. The new sockets and drive accessories are cleaner looking, and better performing.

I prefer the old grey long pattern wright wrenches and the original wright grips are damn fine traditional combination wrenches and contribute to them being revered in many circles but to me wrights impact sockets are second to none being the best most heavy duty sockets out there if you need durability and a tight fit isn’t a concern. Hhowever wright is becoming a dinosaur in every dept, no ratcheting combination wrenches ( domestic) and no low pro impact sockets and tbh unless its going on a high torque I just use the nano style low pro sockets so much that the wright or protos don’t get used much anymore…even for suspension work the nanos are plenty strong enough for that and paired with a nano ratchet wrench or tekton xl 6pt flex head dubl box end ratcheting wrench and you can fit about anywhere but I really appreciate all your interviews Jeff. They have popped up in my shopping. I can’t tell you how many times this past six months to a year. Keep at it buddy.

Certainly didn’t expect the finish on the larger open ends on the Wright brand, kind of disappointing for USA made. Wright still makes my favorite screw drivers, which are flawless! They could have easily cleaned the opening up on the wrenches prior to chroming, kinda sloppy…

Ahh man! This crushed my soul! Lol... Seriously though, I've been looking forward to this review and eyeing them for a year. There's been many tests on these and they outperform 99% in practice grip wise on the open end (see torque test channel) they're definitely not known for the chrome, with chipping issues etc. They're also available in a satin chrome which seems to be better, but still!? I love the USA and the fact that they grip better than even the most aggressive 'looking' open ends. The benefit of that though, is they don't mar the faster nearly as much, so they definitely have the 'Meat n' Patatoes' covered! Btw, In regards to previous wrench reviews... It was proven on TTC review that the Capri, Olsa, Icon, Milwaukee etc. open end design (nut shape) has no advantage over the plain rounded design. Without an appossing side (like a line wrench) the angles just cam the faster toward the open side... i thought it looked like a better design as well but apparently not!? Thanks for another great review👍

Interesting, to say the least. For some reason in my mind Snap On was the king of the auto mechanic, but Wright was the big rig or industrial tool. Like oil rigs or power plants. Unless they s*cked from a usage stand point, I'd still rather buy USA.

Hi leo these are really nice wrenches,just suprised at the rough open end part!! i still rank these really high because of the great fit!!! thanks my friend!!

Not a bad set if they were all there. It’s not cool that they double the price for a complete set. A little crude but nice chrome and American made. Tough one, but I’d pass. It’s shifty when they hold the last few wrenches hostage unless you pay up. Thanks.

I have the full set of these as a pro, I think you might have gotten a bad set which is real disappointing because mine didn't come with that. Still a shame in the chrome but my set came all nice and without issue. I've been using them for the last couple months almost a year and can say the big end is perfect for in the rust belt because it really grips and won't let go. I've never had those wrenches give out. I've once rounded off a real rusty tie rod but It was so rusted it could have been any wrench and it would have done that. You can send an email to wright and they will warranty them for you if you just explain the chrome issue. Just a thought. Keep up the great work and have a good day

It's been my experience that these and similar wrenches like Snap-on flank drive plus or Proto anti slip are to be used separately and only for special cases. Sure, they will always work, but by design, they damage fasteners upon removal thus requiring fastener replacement.
@jefftovani55357 ай бұрын
Hi phil your pretty much rite!!!! the icon and carliyle will really do some damage!!!thanks phil!!!
@craigchiddo27947 ай бұрын
Right you are complaining about it not being pretty I bet they function better for longer than the pretty junk you can get 3 sets of wright for the price of snap on tekton doesn't have to pay us labor prices and epa fines so they can put more effort into making them look pretty
@jefftovani55357 ай бұрын
Hi craig i still rank them very high,even though the chrome could of been better!! thanks my friend for joining in!!
@oldguy20827 ай бұрын
I understand why you're disappointed in the finish of the wrenches, but, I have a different take on it than you do. The open end finish might disappoint you, but its the business end of these wrenches and the reason these are purchased. If you need to remove a rounded or damaged bolt/nut, these will work as well as SO Flankdrive Plus for a fraction of the cost. So, even if the finish isn't the best, these will do the job that they're designed for. These are not every day use items, special circumstances use only. I haven't used the new Craftsman overdrive units or the mac RBT units so I can't comment on how well they perform, but given the cost of the Overdrive units, I might be tempted to give them a try.

You should see how bad the satin finish set was that I purchased... I honestly don't know what Wright has got going on over there. The satin finish set I ordered was so bad that I returned them. The broaching on the closed end was off center on about 30% of the wrenches. The open ends had burs and rough edges, and the offset on the box end varied. Sometimes, it was the full 15° offset, but sometimes, it was 11° or 12° offset. I really don't understand what they got going on there at their usa factory, especially for the cost of these wrenches. I keep saying this over and over again, Japanese, German, and even some Taiwanese made tools are starting to overtake many usa branded tools. The quality and craftsmanship you get with some of these imported tools vs. what you pay is unbelievable. Many usa made brand tools are cutting corners, and the quality is taking a hit, just so they can put "made in usa" on it. Thanks for the honest review, Jeff!! 👍

Thanks victor for sharing that with the channel,i really appreciate it!!! i hated cutting this wright wrench set about the chrome being made in USA,and being very popular in all!! i knew some people with get made,i was rite i lost some subscribers on this video already!! oh well,i will always tell the truth no matter what brand!!!!

Appears the "poor" mans Snap-On might not be as much a value proposition as once was. To your point, the looks don't make it go, but for the cost others may be a better pick.

How does it perform? That’s the question you should be asking if you are reviewing tools. How does it perform day 1 to day 11,739 and beyond? You won’t find another wrench that will out perform those Wright Grip wrenches. $300 is expensive for made in the USA quality tools? Snap On wrenches are $800. Mac knuckle savers are $750. Proto ASD is $500. None of these will out perform the Wright grip. “Calling it like I see it”, means nothing, if performance isn’t the number one thing you should be talking about in a review.

Yeah chrome don't make it go but if they make you pay those prices for that quality, that just ain't Wright! What we really need is cheap quality American manufacturing and steel mills to come back, so we can produce affordable high quality goods again like everyone else!

USA made is a real plus, but the craftsmanship is hard to accept. I seriously think these were manufactured outside of the USA, I cannot believe that these have been through an inspection of any type, unlike the American made products of yesteryear. I might be wrong, but things have changed and it is not for the better. Wright tools are normally low, high end, but this changes my view. Thanks Jeff!
@phillipbainbridge91077 ай бұрын
Wright wouldn't risk breaking the law by manufacturing offshore and stamping USA on them. There's simply too much at stake.
