Having worked in kitchens - seasoning a dish "properly" is a dark art - especially white fish. People have many different palattes and tolerances to seasoning levels. Chefs are always taught to slightly over season as some "punch" is lost during the cooking process. I am a cook. I went to a restaurant that disappointed me so terribly, I wrote them a letter complaining. They contacted me and ended up offering me a job!!! The job offered was not as chef, but as assistant to the chef, who did not know how to prepare food. He was a relative of the owner. I did not accept!!!

What a complete cluster. What kind of a "fine dining" establishment isn't wiping and inspecting every glass? And even Shula's decrumbs. But this excuse in the comments for using the jam jar because it's a special fancy French product - if you can buy it in an advent calendar at Costco, it's not that fancy or special.

Disney "fine dining" restaurants are where unsophisticated people who don't know any better but do have $$$ go to feel sophisticated.
@sharonsalzberg2654Ай бұрын
@@greenbrown7776 To describe the visitors to Disney world as unsophisticated is an understatement. Sorry to say it plain, but the majority of people who I have seen there seem not to pay any attention to their body size nor clothing attire. It is America at its very worst. Yeah, I was thinking this myself. No offense intended toward the channel host, but I do get the impression she doesn't have the most refined palette (just a snap judgement based on a few videos of hers that now I've watched). Which, that's okay, there's nothing wrong with that, but I do think it's a good indication of what the average Disney-goer is like. These "fine dining" restaurants at Disney seem like major tourist traps to sucker in people who normally don't eat fine dining and wouldn't know better. It's just paying for window dressing.
@greenbrown777629 күн бұрын
@@Shadeadder | I agree. And no jab meant toward the host of the channel, either. She's there to provide an honest review of various places and did a good job of it. The truth is I'm decidedly not a "fancy" restaurant guy myself. I much prefer unearthing a good-value dive. But were I to have a hankering for some high-end French cuisine, I know enough about fine dining that Disney World is the very last place I'd seek it out. I went to Paris (Lord, more than 20 years ago now). And I managed to eat very delicious meals paying at most $25 for dinner. (Say $50 today). And I've had fantastic Canadian-French meals in Montreal and Quebec City for as little as $10!
@greenbrown777629 күн бұрын
@@sharonsalzberg2654 | I'm a very low budget, no-frills kind of traveler, definitely not a high-end kind of guy. I'd much prefer a visit to 1950s throwback Cedar Key, a Florida state park, Ocala National Forest, etc. But I'm situationally aware. I did a rare visit to a high-end tennis club in Bermuda once. But I knew to dress and act accordingly. DW is the worst of both worlds. High-end prices with a low-end experience. (Unless you're there for the rides, I don't get the resort's appeal).

Sounds like the manager needs to go. Why do they hire people that they themselves have not experienced fine dining to know where the bar should be set?

You can't really count the amuse bouche as a true one simply because it's supposed to be something the chef sends you to taste that is free. In a Prix Fixe meal, the cost of everything is included in the price and so it's not free, it's just covered by the price.

We tried the Cake Bake Shop for breakfast, they were out of several items and what we got wasn't good (We wished we had went to the IHOP)! @Paperista You should try for yourself IMO, while I haven't had breakfast there, Cake Bake was wonderful when we went, in fact we liked it so much we cancelled our dinner reservations at Jiko for the following night so we could go back for dinner! Ironically I would say pass on dessert though, not worth the $ (but food was great!).
@Paperista8 күн бұрын
@@princessa2235 I would go to Jiko. They use fresh food and cook right in front of you. The bread at CBS that is "flown in" is available online and is already at least a day old when served. Day old bread, from a supposed bakery. The crab cakes at $25 each, pathetic, worst I've ever seen both in price and size. Living in a resort area at the beach I am used to high prices, but restaurants would never think of charging that and their crab is pulled from the ocean usually the same day! The sandwiches are deli meat. If they wanted to do it right, they would use a baked turkey and ham, sliced in pretty, beautiful, thicker homemade slices. Not give people folded over deli meat. In addition, the food isn't made there. I'm sure some is "assembled" but the food is made in an industrial park 30 minutes away and sent over frozen. Glitter is available for $4 at Walmart and has been around for many years. Cakes being super moist often gummy are brushed with a sugar syrup, it is an old trick for trying to keep cakes longer or to address overbaking. Not to mention, a decent home baker can easily accomplish anything they sell. Jacque Torres, world acclaimed chocolatier sells his chocolate chip cookies and truffles for less...in Manhattan!!! World famous....chocolatier....Manhattan. Now those are some ill-thought out prices. So, I would put my money into chefs (some of which are James Beard award nominated) who cook in front of you, then some deli meat and frozen cake shipped from a warehouse. If you are happy that is great, but for people with a limited number of meals during their vacation, their time and money can be much better spent.
