To give you a little more context, this song is directed at people (mainly online trolls) who decide to take their anger out on others for no particular reason without thinking about the effect it has on their lives and mental health. I feel like this song is especially relevant for the Korean entertainment industry where the smallest misstep of celebrities could result in horrifying online bullying. In fact, a few months before the release of this song, two female K-pop stars took their own lives after suffering from depression. Both of them were subject to severe online bullying prior to their deaths.

Hobi🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 (Hobi=jhope) just incase didn't know But that's our 🕺🏻Dance Leader right there! He is a 👑 King of Performance 👑 without a doubt! He is one of the biggest reasons that I was drawn to BTS from the beginning. Hobi is still my bias to this day! His new album is absolutely amazing from the music itself down to it's structure and concept, etc... I truly hope you continue to do more BTS reactions, I very much enjoy them. I love your reactions...I have been hooked from the very first video u found of BTS. I would like to say Thank You for making me smile...it always helps. Now for the reason why I'm writing this post. One of the things I know u adore are meaningful lyrics. And like so many of their other songs, "UGH" doesn't disappoint. However, some ppl are too lazy to look up the translation. And there is a KZbin channel that helps with that. The Channel is called DKDKTV. Two guys by the names of Danny and David Kim, (no relation) have been ARMY for a while now. They are also content creators. And because they are Korean, and still living there, they love to help the international ARMY understand BTS's lyrics better. Including Korean phrases. They have several videos that go through a lot of their songs, including "UGH." Please check out their explanation video for "UGH" or any other songs you have been wondering about. Loved the reaction! The stances they’ve taken in this song are truly so interesting to breakdown: Suga who talks about how people don’t even need the fuel to burn with rage with how used they are to constantly being angry and how they will do anything to get the reaction out of other people in order to feel validated in their anger; RM who acknowledges the fact that anger can sometimes be good and used in order to change some things in society that we feel angry about, and how through history many changes have been made exactly due to that reason, but the things people are doing now isn’t rage (korean: boonno) but feces aka human waste (korean:boonnyo), so it’s not contributing to anything; and then we have J-Hope who talks about how someone’s words said in anger can ruin someone else’s life and how those people will just continue to get angry until they go insane. At the end, all three of them say how there are many people who think they know what it’s like being a celebrity and how they should put up with everything because they earn a lot of money, the mindset that contributed to many celebrities (especially in k-pop in the last years) to even take their own lives due to the negative comments and everything. So you’re totally right: this song is a social commentary, and I think you will be satisfied to see that BTS have a lot of songs like that. Some of their songs benefit a lot from cultural translation. I recommend DKDKTV and their "explained by a korean" videos about UGH, Ddaeng and others. For example this isn't only a clap back to the haters, it is also a commentary on the usefulness of anger to bring about important change. They are essentially chastising their haters for wasting anger on petty and irrelevant things when they should be using it to correct real injustice. Also it's a banger.

UGH isn't just about online trolls. It's about _outrage culture_ - people being addicted to being outraged over every small thing. This happens on all sides of the aisle - the left are painted as bleeding-heart liberals ready to cancel anyone who speaks out of turn, but the right are also seen as easily-offended by the growing visibility of minorities. BTS says anger isn't a bad thing per se - governments have been toppled with the righteous anger of a nation (see what's happening in Iran today). But people nowadays waste this fire on every tiny thing and instead harms humanity by misusing that anger for self-gratification rather than the greater good. Case in point: I think it's dumb that someone put Suga in a stupid flat earther shirt in this concert, but I'm not going to rally to get some poor uninformed stylist fired.

I highly recommend watching "BTS Ugh explained by a Korean" by DKDKTV....It's very interesting. They have several "explained by a Korean" videos on BTS songs and the meaning behind them. It definitely helped me both understand and appreciate their lyrics better. love your reactions by the way. Your first BTS reaction on TEAR was amazing (and very relatable as I had the same back in the day compared to what I was expecting)
