J, how are you and the band doing? I know it’s a exciting and challenging time. Best of luck! Everyone go out and support City of Sound RIGHT NOW! Yay, today we’re doing Park Jimin. My first bias after being OT7 for years.😊. He worked so hard as a trainee on his vocals, his expertise in Modern Dance made it hard to transition to HipHop and BTS’s style of dancing and he was attending high school every day with V Tae. He only got two to four hours of sleep every day. JK said that Jimin was the hardest worker in the group. Sadly, he cried after their first performance in front of the bathroom because of he was disappointed in his vocals. He was that hard on himself. But look what he turned himself into. He’s one of the best idols in the business and there are rookies that want to be like him. I’m so happy being his fan. He never disappoints personally and professionally. What a sweet man too. Love you Jimin

Would you believe that Jimin didn't sing before he joined BTS? He was a contemporary dancer and was recruited to be a rapper. He was almost cut in his early months but worked his tail off at singing... without a vocal coach! His insecurity about his voice is still very real. He continues to work very hard at his craft, as do they all. Thank you for your thoughtful reactions to our very talented seven. 💜

I think you got things just a tad bit wrong, but that happens 🙂 Jimin used to sing, it's possible to see him do it in old preidol footage, + his father has mentioned it a couple of times. He just never got professionally trained predebut. Not post debut either, for that matter. Jimin also never was a contemporary dancer. He studied it for 2 years in high school, including modern, ballet, and traditional Korean dance. And that was on top of having done hip-hop for several years prior in a dance academy. Also, he wasn't recruited as a rapper but auditioned and got accepted as an idol trainee, with the possible potential of becoming a rapper. Also, he wasn't let go because of his singing (like you seem to imply). He wouldn't have debuted as a lead singer if that was the case (even ahead of Jin and V). Why did they threaten him? Most likely to force him to cram in 2-3 years' worth of idol prep in less than a year. And he did it, hard working man that he is. Lastly, Jimin has never outright said that he is insecure about his voice. He used to complain when his voice didn't do what he wanted it to do or he showed frustration when it took too long to learn new vocal techniques. I wouldn't call that insecurity. 💜

That sound jimin made towards the end was a classic jimin whine that he does in a lot of his live singing in his more recent performances. His voice was a bit deeper, had more grit in the beginning of their career. But through vocal training he's perfected his now very angelic/otherworldly voice with the bit of the whine at the end of a verse. It's his signature sound. You can also hear it during his live Filter performance and the BTS NPR tiny desk concert.

Once the bubble failed to pop and Jimin just kept performing until the stagehands took care of it, completely smoothly. He's a pro. "Bro can move" - oh yeah, you don't know all the things yet! What you see in his dancing here is choreo by the fantastic Brian Puspos meeting up with Jimin's unique dance style, which is itself a combination of training in modern dance, hip-hop dance, taekwondo, idol dance, and Korean traditional dance. Professional dancers find him fascinating. He's one of the best dancers in the industry. (Your guy is another of them. J-Hope is astounding. Totally different dance background and style from Jimin, no competition implied here! Just giving Hobi his shout-out.) There's a really cool Steezy video of Brian reacting to BTS performing his choreo, which means you get to see Brian fanboying about Jimin, who was previously a fan of his. Yeah, he’s an absolute beast onstage. He has that undefinable thing that kicks in the moment he starts to perform. Get him doing promotions without the other 6? Park Jimin is literally known as the “idol’s bible” lol😂 it’s a well known fact that other K-pop trainees study bts’ fancams (which is a zoomed in performance video that tracks one member of a group) for practice. Jimin was in a art high school where he majored in contemporary and modern dance and he started learning hip hop dancing at age 15 and would do dance battles. He’s insanely talented. I recommend his live performance of ‘like crazy’ and ‘lie’ live performance 💜

Jimin came into BTS as a dancer and they were initially training him to be a rapper. When V & JK had their voice lessons he asked if he could go and watch and the practiced on his own. The. Suga told the company to make him a vocalist not a rapper.

I could write loveletters about is live vocals. I still remember "The truth untold" Live at Speak yourself Japan (same concert) - on his last long high note there was like this small sob at the end. He was so into it and felt the song 200% like he had to hold back his own tears at the end of it. And THATS what makes his voice so special.
